A historical place with great views. This castle has an entry fee of 6€ per adult. It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to see the entire place including reading the information. The view from any part of the castle is beautiful.
Also a small museum with historical artifacts in the midst of the visit.
However, when we were there. We experienced one of the worst customer service possible in a tourist attraction location. The staff in the museum was extremely rude, not just to us but to the other guests who were also there when we were. The guests before us were english speakers and so struggled to communicate with the staff who spoke absolutely no english (in a tourist attraction location) and only shouted German at them. He was impatient and very rude to them even as they were attempting to buy something from the counter. We were also there near closing and the only ones left in the museum. We were viewing the artifacts in another room of the small museum. Unknown to him that we could speak German, the same staff shouted from across the museum at us, "FINISHED!! ITS FINISHED!" And proceeded to switch off the lights before we left, instead of being civil and simply letting us know nicely.
What is baffling is the fact that someone is incapable of saying simple english words like, 'we're closed' in a tourist site, or being at least decently polite. He behaved like we had all trespassed on his property and ruffled up his home, even though we're all there to view and learn about the history of the beautiful location.
The visit to this castle was enjoyable until the interaction with this staff which really spoiled the visit altogether. Someone incapable of providing at least the minimum customer service to customers should NOT be in the hospitality...
Read moreEverything looks amazing and the tour guide was wonderful. Only thing was we went on a set date instead of other plans that we were looking forward but cancelled just because we saw on the website that there was archery in the middle of the tour. We went the date before and asked if we needed to register or pay anything, they said no to both, just go to the tour. We were surprised it was included in the price of the tour. Next day we go to the tour and in the middle of it they gave us the option of archery if we paid 10 Euros cash. No other possible way of paying and no way to pay afterwards. So you either paid and enjoyed archery or continued on the tour. We had to pass because we didn't have cash, only debit card so not only we missed the plan we cancelled because of our excitement about archery, we couldn't do archery either because even though we went the day before to inform ourselves so nothing like this happened (which is very common in Germany, where they expect u to be prepared and know in advance and the customer is never right), even though we went in person to ask about it the day before, nobody told us that 1. You have to pay 10 euros which was our main question in case we couldn't afford it and 2. You pay at the moment in the middle of the tour and only in cash and there is nowhere u can get cash around the castle unless u go back downtown, which is not far but can't be done in the middle of the tour. We were just told we had nothing to plan, just come to the tour, no extra info given, and it was total lies, which turned a wonderful experience in a nice experience with a lot of bitterness because even when you check the website, even when you go in person, you can't be sure you have the right information, more...
Read moreThis is really one of the best spots I've been to on my recent trip to Germany. Took a river cruise from Rüdeheim to St Goar to make it to Rheinfels, and the cruise was quite breathtaking as well.
Rheinfels is a beautiful castle ruin, with wonderful views of the surrounding lands. There are very informative posters that explains each part of the ruins. My favorite has to be the vaulted cellar. The acoustics in there are amazing and its just impressive to think that hundreds of years ago, engineering marvels like that already existed.
There is a little museum within Rheinfels that tells its story in quick little bite sizes, which I really appreciate.
Unfortunately for me restoration works were being undertaken, and it could last up to 3 years, so certain areas like the High Battery and Clock tower was off limits
If you're ever in the area and you love beautiful landscapes, history and architecture, Rheinfels is a place you should consider adding on to your trip.
I'd also like to give a shout out to the friendly happy man who was manning the ticket booth, he's friendly, funny and really made me...
