My family stayed for 2 nights at the Camp Side, more precisely in a log cabin for 6. Here's what great about it: the facilities are clean and very well maintained. The whole property is really nice, including the playground and the option for bullriding. There are 2 restaurants; we had dinner at the Silver Lake Saloon one night. Food quality (mainly meat & fries) was okish, not really great but not poor neither. Breakfast at the Cantina Amigo was really good considering the price. The camp resort is very close to Europapark (and the park itself is absolutely amazing!).
Now here comes the downside: the walls of the log cabins are not isolated (like at all!). Thin as paper! The cabins are grouped by minimum 4 units. If your neighbor is talking, you can hear every single word he says. We had 2 cabins right aside us with groups of 6 young guys in each cabin. This resulted in 12 wild screaming kids. We couldn't sleep until 1am, even if we asked them and their supervisors who stayed elsewhere to try to keep it quiet. And at 6am, the first doors started slamming. To be honest, after driving for more than 500 kms at the day of arrival, and hoping to find rest prior to enjoying an intense day at the park, we were completely destroyed... So if you are looking for a place to have a good night sleep prior to heading to the park, I wouldn't recommend the Camp Resort. But perhaps we weren't lucky... Also, consider that "Nachtruhe" is only as of midnight. Night two was "normal" as the boys moved out.
Now here's to the reception and how they dealt with it: I wrote an email at 00:30 to say I was very dissatisfied (not finding sleep!!) and we needed a solution for night two. A reply, with an invitation to talk about it, would have been nice. So without hearing back, I went to the reception on day 2, after we visited the park. I encountered quite a cold and distant receptionist. Professional yes, but empathy towards your customer would have been more appropriate. An "I understand and I am sorry to hear this" would have been nice. She was open to help though. So she did share that the new neighbors were families, and offered the option to move to an alternative (likely more quiet) cabin away from the tipis. We discussed this and decided we were too tired to move, and hoped that with neighboring families, we'd be able to catch up on some sleep. When I went back to inform her, she was definitely warmer and more empathetic. And she did a nice gesture towards the kids; that's very appreciated. So thank you for shifting your mindset here.
Here's to Europapark Hotels: group families together instead of grouping families with unaccompanied groups of youngsters who are not interested in sleeping before midnight. Actually, I'd recommend not to allow kids aged -16 yrs old to sleep alone in the cabins without supervision (e.g. 1 adult + 5 kids). All is all, this experience spoiled our short holiday and it shouldn't have happened in the...
Read moreWe have been coming to Europa Park (EP) almost yearly for about 7 years. During our various visits, we have tried many EP Hotels, and each time our kids always request that we spend a few nights in Camp Resort too. It is luxury camping at its best & our children's FAVORITE accommodation in EP. There is so much for children to do there: large outdoor covered playground, gem stone/gold panning, mechnical bull riding in the evening, and swimming in a nearby lake. EP front entrance is a short 10 minute walk or you can take the shuttle. Wood (& even meat, sausages, salad can be ordered in advance for a reasonable price) is available to make a camp fire & grill yourselves dinner. (There is also a Lidl Grocery Store in Rust just before you enter the EP compound where you can pick up water, sausages, meat, bread, etc.) And to all of this, they have added a Comedy & Horse Riding Show on some evenings & sometimes an "American Indian" rides on his horse through the camp. Lastly, Sheriff Euromouse still comes to meet & greet the children at breakfast in the Saloon or Mexican restaurant.||||Room Types: Tipis are the cheapest, but they sometimes get a bit flooded when it rains a lot. Covered Wagons have light insulating material, so they stay quite dark which makes them great for sleeping. They also have a wardrobe, 2-4 stools, a table & a great heater. Wooden Structures (Cabins & Wagons) has everything that a Covered Wagon has & it feels like a bit more floor space too. The only drawback with the Wooden Structures is that their curtains are thin & let in early morning light. All rooms can come with a wonderful breakfast option: cereal, breads, scrambled eggs (with or without bacon in the eggs), sandwich meets, sliced cheeses, yogurt, fruit salad, coffee, cocoa, 3 juices, etc. (Not as elaborate as the EP Hotels, but Camp Resort Breakfast is more than adequate.)||||Negative: The only reason that I don't give it 5 Stars is that this is "Economy" accommodation, so bathrooms are shared. But all the public facilities (toilets, showers, dishwashing area) have usually been tip-top & clean ---- at least during low season (late April, May, June, September, October) when we have gone. The other thing to note is that Camp Resort is very popular with school groups. They can be quite noisy, but luckily they usually all quiet down at 10:00 PM (22:00).||||We have always enjoyed our many stays at Camp Resort. It is luxury camping at its finest. (If you drive & bring your own tent or RV, cost is only 33 Euros/night. It's a great deal. And you can use all the same Camp Resort Facilities.) The only reason we don't do it is that it often rains at least part of our...
Read moreWe come to Europapark every year and always stay a night or two at the campsite there. We've always greatly enjoyed it but I have mixed opinions on it after our last stay here.
The tent pitches are on the pricey side at around 35€ per night. It is, however, an extremely beautiful area with a lot of love put into the wild west theme. The salloon is great and offers live music in the evenings, there's a barbeque area with lots of picnic tables, firepits, and free wood to grill with, and the lake and the surrounding area is lovely. The bathrooms keep up with cowboy theme and are beautiful and clean, but the showers leave a lot to be desired with how well the rest of the site seems to be maintained. The water is also scalding hot in both the men and women's showers for a second or two immediately after pushing the button to start the water before returning to a normal temperature (and you'll be pushing it many times as it only lasts about 40 seconds.)
The thing that really bothered us during our stay here was the fact that the "Nachtruhe" rules of the campsite are not enforced at all. We spent the day in the park and noticed that a couple had their wedding there that day. At about midnight there was techno music blaring so loud that you could nearly feel the bass in your bones. It was awful, there was absolutely no rest to be had until it finally ceased at 4 am, and nobody could do anything about it. We called the reception three different times and were told that security would be sent out to take care of it. They told us it was off the property and they can't do anything about it. We called the police, who did eventually show up but the noise continued.
We found out the following morning that 400 meters away from the campground is a small Tennisheim where the wedding couple had their reception. In the end, I suppose no one was really to blame, but I feel like if there's party music blasting less than half a kilometer away from where hundreds of people are in tents sleeping outside, the campsite staff should be able to tell them to tone it down a bit. It really left a sour taste in my mouth about the camp resort...
