I am sorry to tell you that, but Germans beat Americans hollow!

My parent status forced me one day to go to EuroDisney. I have obviously chosen to go to lunch in the restaurants "high-end" (if indeed this term can have a significance in this place) to avoid the junk food accessible to "vulgum pecus", and without find something to satisfy me, of course.

I know, I'm obnoxious, but I'll do my mea culpa another day.

Same adventure at Europa Park. What could be expected from a kitchen at a leisure park welcoming over 5 million visitors a year? Bad prejudice! Schloss (castle) Balthasar.

For the ogre I am: awesome! And yet, it had started pretty badly since you had to queue for a table, something I NEVER do! But between the rain and the tiredness of the youngest, sometimes you have to bit the bullet.

First of all, the setting is authentic. It is actually an old castle that was converted into a restaurant. It is under the protection of a conservation association of ancient monuments.

Then the dishes are traditional, deer stew, badoise soup (beef and dumplings), pork tenderloin, mushrooms and spaetzle, beef cheek with oyster mushrooms or the famous Wiener Schnitzel with a Duroc sauce.

To note on the menu the hilarious missprint of the filet of "beauf" (redneck filet!). Of course, I could not resist the legendary Kaiser Schmarrn for dessert. Enjoying ourselves, with two glasses of Pear Williams, we get 93.10 euros for 2 adults and a child! There I...

The food was ok but there were several things which were not. Value for money is not the case here. Prices are high. We ate in the Europa Park many times and we were always satisfied but this restaurant I cannot recommend. We sat on the terrace outside and there is a pond or something like it which smelled really bad. The service was aweful. First the waitress knocked over the coke which can happen, of course, but she gave the bottle to my friend which was now not full anymore. Then she brought some bread which she also spread across the table. Sh** happens but she collected it and again did not bring some new. We were four people. My dish was forgotten. When it finally arrived 10 minutes after the others, there was no excuse or anything. Again, all this things can happen, no problem, but how they have been dealt with are definitely not ok....

All'interno del più grande parco divertimenti d'Europa mi sentivo spaesato e in difficoltà per l'eccesso di rumore e di gente, dato che sono venuto qui per lavoro e non per divertirmi con la famiglia, cercavo un luogo dove trovare un po' di pace e di tranquillità: con grande sorpresa ho trovato un luogo che sembra essere senza tempo, con meravigliosa musica classica di sottofondo e persone che parlano sottovoce per non disturbare gli altri, in altre parole come un'oasi di tranquillità nel deserto del caos; pensavo fosse un miraggio, invece è stata una meravigliosa sorpresa con un menù altrettanto sorprendente. Il Menù Baden è iniziato con un'insalata, come di abitudine in Germania, condita con salsa agrodolce allo yogurt (almeno così l'ho sentita io), pane e bacon molto croccante: saporitissima, sicuramente non un contorno leggero come d'uso nei paesi mediterranei, comunque molto piacevole. Il piatto principale è la cotoletta viennese, cotta nel burro o nello strutto (probabilmente), dolce e croccante, dal mio punto di vista con delle dimensioni meno generose del previsto, almeno guardando le fotografie del menù, ma molto buona, servita su piatto caldo (un must), con un contorno di verdure bollite, patate e asparagi bianchi, con una salsa (anch'essa a base di burro a mio gusto) buonissima, per accompagnare delicatamente il sapore leggermente amaro degli asparagi e quello neutro delle piccole patate ovali. In Baden Baden il dessert sembra Uno ma in realtà è Trino: un muffin al cioccolato con Interno morbido, gelato alla crema e fragole fresche, con crema chantilly di accompagnamento: una goduria per il palato. Dopo un pranzo così, consiglio, da italiano, un espresso (discreto e leggermente lungo, ma adeguato) a fine pasto.
