Review: A Gem Along the Neckar – Campingplatz an Der Friedensbrücke

During my recent stay at Campingplatz an Der Friedensbrücke in Heidelberg, I was left thoroughly impressed by this tranquil haven nestled along the Neckar River. This campsite combines the serene charm of nature with the warmth of excellent hospitality, making it an exceptional choice for anyone visiting the region.

The location is nothing short of breathtaking. Situated conveniently near Heidelberg, it offers the perfect blend of accessibility and scenic beauty. The peaceful ambiance along the river, coupled with the backdrop of lush greenery and the nearby historic town, creates an idyllic escape for nature lovers and explorers alike.

What truly elevated the experience, however, was the hospitality of the owner. A true gentleman, his kindness and attentiveness ensured every guest felt welcome and cared for. It is rare to encounter such genuine warmth, and it left a lasting impression on me.

The amenities were thoughtfully maintained, striking a perfect balance between comfort and rustic charm. The cleanliness and organization of the campsite were commendable, and the quiet atmosphere made it an ideal spot to relax and recharge.

If you’re planning a trip to Heidelberg and seek a peaceful retreat with heartfelt hospitality, Campingplatz an Der Friedensbrücke should undoubtedly be at the top of your list. It’s not just a campsite; it’s an experience that resonates with the soul. I cannot recommend it enough and look forward to...

We had the great pleasure of visiting this spotless campsite located 10 km outside of Heidelberg in the nice suburb Neckargemünd. I can only recommend this family-run campsite.||||It has its own restaurant, has very clean sanitary facilities, friendly staff and is located ideally on the shore of the Neckar river with the green mountains in the background. I visited with my wife and two kids aged 5 and 8 and playground facilities is the only thing, where the campsite could improve. It doesn't have a swimmingpool, but 1-2 km away from the campsite you'll find the most beautiful (and clean) Freibad (outdoor pools) in Kleingemünd - the entry doesn't cost very much. You might have to book a slot prior to your visit and get a QR code. In Neckargemünd you'll find a nice old town center with a handfull of nice restaurants and an ice café near Hanfmarkt (walking distance) and a patio located right next to the pier wieving the river and Kleingemünd in the background. You can go by boat (I'll recommend doing so) to or from Heidelberg to Neckargemünd or take the bus 35 from Hanfmarkt/Neckargemünd just 500 m from the campsite. It runs very often. There is an S train connection too, that we did not use though.||||We found this place a better option than the campsite located closer to Heidelberg, but in the middle of nowhere. Except for the playground facilities I can really recommend this place in any way. That is why I rate it with four stars instead...

Lovely site right on the river Neckar just 10km from Heidelberg. Man at reception really helpful and speaks English. The shower/toilet block was clean and modern but up quite a few steps which could be a problem for some people. There is a bar and beer garden on site overlooking the river. You can order bread for the morning. Wifi is extra €2 per day for 1 device. ACSI card is accepted and paid more for a pitch right by the river for €26 per night and that includes 4km electric. The small town of Neckargemund just a few minutes walk from site has restaurants, supermarkets, banks and petrol station. You can get bus, train or boat into Heidelberg or cycle along the river but that is on a busy road some of the way. You can cycle through the forest which is similar distance but hilly in parts. Heidelberg is a beautiful town and worth a visit.

Very peaceful site located next to the river Necker. The guys that run this site are super helpful and are gracious enough to speak English to a non-German speaking Englishman. They even recommended a bar in Heidelberg. There is a snack bar that also serves alcoholic drinks which also hosts live music some nights too. There are great transport links into Heidelberg including bus, train and a separated cycle path all the way into Heidelberg, only a 30 minute ride at a gentle pace. I’ll be back :) Three years on.. and I returned. How things have changed. Very busy site. More pitches and an electricity supply that cannot cope. Shame.
