I recently had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Green Oak Hotel in the Osu neighborhood of Accra. I booked the hotel on Booking.com and was easily able to communicate with staff before my arrival. To start, the staff of the hotel were uniformly friendly and accommodating. I was especially impressed when one of the staff took the initiative to move me to another room, as the air conditioning in my original room was not working. She even helped me move my things to the new room, which was just across the hallway. I hadn't even asked to move yet, but she knew that I wouldn't be comfortable without A/C and was proactive in meeting my needs. I was also scheduled for a late night departure from the airport and when I asked if I could extend my stay through a final day they immediately agreed to allow me to keep my room for an additional cost of half the full daily rate. I thought that was reasonable.||||Some of the other positives about the Green Oak Hotel:||+ A good location off of Oxford Street in Osu, with popular restaurants and shops within a 15-20 minute walk. And despite being on a busy street, the hotel was quiet.||+ Reliable wifi throughout the hotel, even in the outdoor garden restaurant.||+ A full breakfast is included, with good choices available. Soft drinks, beer and water are all priced fairly.||+ Clean and comfortable rooms, spacious and appropriately furnished.||+ A mini-fridge is available in the room.||||A few areas in which the hotel could improve are:||- There are only overhead lights in the room and bathroom, no lights over the bathroom mirror or at the desk.||- The shower hose leaked, getting water on the bathroom floor after showering. ||- The bath towels were hard and scratchy.||- The front desk will change currency, but it takes some time as it requires someone who is not always present. Plan on an hour or more.||||Accra was a more expensive city than I expected, not having been there in over 40 years. At the regular rate charged I would get a much better room in most cities in the U.S. While I received a small discount through Booking.com I did think the value received is less than the amount charged. But I recognize that the Green Oak Hotel is competitive with other small...
Read moreI stayed three times at this hotel during several weeks of work in Ghana. It is conveniently located in Osu, walking distance from Oxford Street, and excellent value for money. The hotel is very clean, the staff are exceptional: friendly, helpful, polite, always willing to go out of their way to help. Breakfast is a highlight, but so are other meals. The chefs are always happy to adapt to the needs of the guest and I must say, I had only scrumptious meals served to me with a smile. When it was too hot to dine in the al fresco restaurant, the food was delivered with a smile to the room. When there were issues with the internet, the staff went beyond the call of duty to sort it out: a service that is much appreciated when one has deadlines! I highly recommend this...
Read moreI've stayed at this hotel twice and both times I really enjoyed how peaceful it is. They offer airport pickup and drop off so you don't have to worry about directions. It is about 30mins from the airport in an area called Osu. I really like that the rooms are very spacious and that the hotel is very clean. The staff are very friendly and willing to help even with odd requests such as helping with a zipper. The food is very tasty, I really looked forward to pancakes and hot cocoa...
