Pick up from airport was arranged by a local organisation and there were not problems.||Check in was friendly and quick, though I was surprised to have to pay for room up front - but no big deal, really.||Room was nice and clean. Bed had a solid mattress (which I like). There are very few spare power points, had to unplug a lamp to be able to charge laptop. No hand soap in bathroom due to 'soap shortage'. At least there was body wash, which did the trick.||Pool (chlorinated) was nice and refreshing.||Wifi is free, but a bit patchy - sometimes very good, and at other times terrible. Apparently the wired connection is more reliable (there is a wall outlet and cable provided), but I couldn't test this option.||Transport options: Ask hotel for a driver (Ben is a regular driver waiting out the front). This is a better option than taxis. If you're going to the mall then ask the driver to wait (if you're not going to be hours) or pick you up when you call him or at a given time. Transport is usually charged according to time (around 40 cedis per hour is reasonable), and hence this option is better than using a taxi to return from the mall. A driver can also take you to other areas and become your own tour guide, looking after you in the markets etc.||Breakfast options are plenty, especially if you're happy with the local or Chinese cuisine. There is also toast and orange marmalade (only) available, as well as coco pops, corn flakes, and some fruit.||Service was always very friendly and the staff try to help whenever needed. Just ask the staff for laundry service (same day) or assistance with anything else.||Hot water can be an issue at peak times, but otherwise is OK.||There is a large safe in the room, which worked without a hitch. This was a pleasant surprise since other Ghanaian hotels I've stayed at did not have this option.||With respect to lunch and dinner, there are two restaurants, a continental restaurant where you can get pizza, steaks, chips, chicken dishes, etc., and a Chinese restaurant. I missed the African option, but both restaurants were very nice and the food was great - if you like hot food try the rural pork or the chilli fried chicken in the Chinese (Top Land) restaurant. The service in the both restaurants was quick and efficient. Be prepared that not all dishes on the continental menu are available - it's a bit hit and miss, but no difference to other hotels I've stayed at in Accra.||Overall, I was very comfortable here and I certainly enjoyed my stay. I would come back here if...
Read moreWow! What a farce! My husband and I arrived about 4.30pm. The buffet was all but finished so we ordered off the menu. I explained to the waiter that we wanted 2 starters after which we wanted our 2 main courses and 2 portions of rice. After almost an hour, a starter and a main course were brought to the table, no rice. The main course was cool. We asked for it to be returned to the kitchen to be warmed and brought back after we had eaten our starters, one if which had yet to appear. About 15 minutes later the main course but no rice, now cold was returned with the second starter. 10 minutes later a portion of rice was brought. I was no longer hungry. 5 minutes later the second portion of rice was brought to the table. A further 10 minutes passed, no sign of my main course. I asked the waiter where it was and he said that we hadn't ordered a second main course! At the same time my husband and I both said "Item 114." The waiter disappeared and 10 minutes later the second main course finally arrived. My husband and I had both passed hunger so asked for everything to be put into containers and requested for the bill. My husband was amazed that the prices on the menu do NOT include VAT! That should be illegal. We paid our bill and left. We will NEVER return. Horrendous!!!!...
Read moreIf this purported Chinese Plaza hotel had their own way, they would mount a sign at the entrance that read 'Chinese only'. Ghana is such a free country so much so that anyone can waltz in and pretty much do whatever they well darn, please. How can a manager run a hotel and refuse to speak a word of English? I encountered rudeness at its highest form at this hotel for patronizing their badminton court. Many thanks to the Ghanaian workers who insist on apologizing on their behave. However, they don't care because you are neither Chinese nor their target market. Thus, this is a Plaza hotel by Chinese for Chinese Only. Your patronage would definitely NOT be welcomed, smiled and or talked to because you ain't Chinese and hence don't deserve their respect and equal services? ||||Ghana Tourism board ought to be reviewing these hotels regularly in order to insist on the owner(s) to roll out sensitivity and common sense training for their workers. This hotel has managed to tarnish the good image I had had of Chinese people as they remain and continue to be disrespectful, evasive and nasty. ||||I have hence boycotted this China hotel for...
