If you are looking for a good hotel, great food, lovely beach, peace and quiet and a little bit of culture - this is the place for you. It was certainly ideal for our family of 4 adults for one week and only about an hour and a half `in a comfortable taxi from Thessaloniki airport. We booked half-board but, in fact, the food was excellent and we ended up having all our meals there. Our sea view rooms, next to each other, were on the second floor with a glorious view and with very little disturbance from the taverna below. The stairs were good exercise, but would not suit anyone with walking difficulties. The rooms were kept very clean, were comfortable and suitable for a beach holiday. The balcony just accommodated 4 people playing board games round the table in the evenings. The beach itself was clean, with free sunbeds for residents, and the sea was shallow for quite a long way. A great bonus was the cookery demonstration at the sister hotel early one evening, definitely things I will try at home, and were all on the menu. We walked up to ancient Stagira, birthplace of Aristotle, which was worth the climb and only 12 minutes walk from the hotel. ||||We love Greece with its lovely people and Hotel Akroyiali lived up to expectation. Dimitri, the owner, came out personally to welcome us and to introduce us to his family and staff. Lulu, his sister, runs the other hotel and gives the cookery demo. All the staff seemed so happy, with the girl bringing us drinks on the beach always smiling. However, special mention has to go to Antonio (Manager/Head Waiter) who was so attentive, spoke perfect English, always with a smile and there for every single meal of the entire week. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We had a lovely,...
Read moreThis is a family run hotel that is now known as the Hotel Akroyiali and is located next to the beach. The room that we had was basic and adequate apart from the bathroom. This was the most compact washing facility ever seen and it is perfectly possible to shower whilst using the lavatory. It’s also worth noting that the double bed is actually two abutting single beds. ||||The room we had included a balcony that overlooked Olympiada and was in the shade most of the day so it was a good place to get away from the sun and watch the world go by. The room can be noisy at night due to the adjacent restaurant however it does calm down around midnight and the rest of the night is peaceful.||||Breakfast was taken in the beach front restaurant and consisted on cheese, ham bread & jams and eggs with additions of fruit and cake. Service was efficient and the food was good. As we stayed half board, we ate in the restaurant for evening meals. The menu was extensive and the food was better than the usual Greek tavern fare and included a number of “family recipes”. Whilst the food was good it would be nice if the menu changed a little more from day to day to include new meals.||||Taking into account that this is a two-star hotel, it has a good location, the food is good and the service provided by Adonis...
Read moreWe spent the first five nights of our two week fly drive tour round the Greek mainland at the Akroyiali (Hotel Germany) in Olymbiada and loved it.||The hotel is very friendly, clean & comfortable, we had a lovely room overlooking the hotel's tavern decking and the beach & harbour looking over towards Thassos. Only downside was the bathroom which was very small but not unmanageable!||We were on half board terms and were not disappointed. Breakfasts were varied and freshly prepared, evening meals were ordered from the tavern menu mainly without needing to pay any supplement. Food was exceptional and among the best we have had in twenty years of holidays around Greece. Full marks to Antonio for his all day service throughout our stay.||Olymbiada itself is a small traditional seaside village with a working harbour and plenty of beach space. There is a selection of Tavernas and Cafes and a few supermarkets etc. Was quite lively at the weekend which was a local Bank Holiday otherwise very laid back atmosphere. The ruins of ancient Sagira are well worth a visit, this is the birthplace of Aristotle 2400 years ago and the ruins are fascinating. There are also a few smaller beaches out that way which are worth a visit and have good...
