I had a mixed experience staying at the Ikarion Hotel for a week in August 2014. I appreciated that the hotel was clean, and that the owners and staff put a lot of care and love into the upkeep of the property. I liked the hotel's location adjacent to the hot baths and restaurants. And the fast internet speed was terrific, and one of the fastest on the island. What was frustrating was the lack of hot water in the shower in the mornings, not being able to get a consistent internet wi-fi signal except on the 3rd floor outdoor balcony, and the difficulty communicating with the staff, who spoke only a small amount of English. I didn't feel that the hotel staff was able to provide a level of responsiveness to my concerns that I wanted. The hotel caters mostly to older clients who come for the hot springs, and the white sparse interiors of the hotel felt sterile and like hospital hallways. I can't recommend the hotel for younger travelers or for couples looking for a romantic getaway. But for travelers who come primarily for an extended therapeutic visit to Therma, and do not require Internet service in their room, I can imagine the hotel could be a solid option. There were a number of older clientele who told me they happily return...
Read moreWe had planned to stay in Therma for only a couple of days before moving on to another location. But we were so comfortable at the Ikarion and happy with the quiet beauty of Therma that we decided to make this our base for exploring the southern part of the island. We had a third floor corner room with a balcony overlooking the tiny harbor and incredible views of the Aegean and nearby islands of Samos and Fourni. It is a well maintained hotel with especially nice hosts and assorted family members. The breakfasts, including the excellent persimmon and other jams, are mostly made by the hostess. We had no difficulty with WiFi, which was noted by another reviewer, during out stay. And our hosts explained that you need to let the shower water run for two or three minutes before it gets hot. So no problem with that either. In our experience, the Ikarion deserves four or...
Read moreTenea, her husband and son are Wonderful hosts, who provide clean rooms, gorgeous balcony views, homemade phyllo treats and cake at breakfast for only 40 euros a night. What’s not to like. We had no communication problems as the hosts always had friends around to translate if they didn’t understand. The water was hot and the WiFi worked well. There was an elevator to our 2nd floor room and ramped entrance, something rare in villages in Greece. We had a lovely stay at this delightful property a half a block from the warm waters of Therma, spas, restaurants and next...
