Hotel Rena — Hotel in Icaria Municipality

We booked a room for the night. Upon arrival we were told there was a problem with the room and we were being moved to another hotel which was awful. We were offered no explanation and no attempt to contact us prior to our arrival. Next day we couldn't find anyone in other hotel to pay when we checked out because it was early. We went back to hotel Rena and woke up the woman from previous day to pay her and leave key. I left note and email with other hotel to explain which they acknowledged. On our return home I had a message from booking.com saying we were a no show at Rena and cancelled.I contacted booking.com and was told Rena apparently waived the fee. But I'd paid! So she has our money for a room we didn't stay in and as the other hotel was a dump and we didn't even ask to go there, they broken Greek law with regards to service not received despite being paid for. we stayed in this hotel in july - peak season - for only 30 euro's per room per night - unbelievable value!! the rooms are quite small but are well equipped with a small balcony and a/c at no extra charge. the room was immaculate with fresh white linen on the beds. it is a very quiet area but a few minutes walk and you have mini-markets and a few good restaurants. there is an excellent bus service into the main town - where the ferry arrives/leaves from. most people staying in therma seem to be there to take advantage of the thermal waters - there is a small bay for swimming. lovely courtyard out the front to relax in and meet fellow guests - we met a couple who had been coming back to this hotel for 28 years!! nice friendly relaxed atmosphere!! free wifi but we were unable to get it...

Nobody here pretends to speak a perfectly fluent english, I don't certainly. Neither it is mandatory to have a room available. Unfortunately, the administrators of this hotel don't know two simple words: "NO ROOM". They instead know the words "come, come; yes; ok; good" and also all the numbers and dates I asked for availability followed by "yes ok come". So it happened that they received multiple calls in multiple days and repeatedly confirmed the booking of a room for us. Unfortunately, the room was never booked and the hotel was full and our arrival was at midnight. They created troubles and stress for not saying at least ONE...
