Just had 10 days at this hotel, and it wasn't the kind of hotel we were used to.||THE ROOM|Room was nice (recently refurbished) Although we had no drawers for clothes and only 5 hangers in the wardrobe , comfort wise ,the beds were very very comfortable.|No room instructions on how to use the safe, no guide for telephone number's for reception etc, or any other information folders about places of interest etc.|Room was cleaned every day.||SNACK BAR|Drinks bar was okay for beers and other local drinks, be aware the soft drinks from the self serve ( not branded) Rola Cola, and orange looking fizzy water) definitely stay away from the lemon and lime drinks, (the smell reminded me of a toilet cleaner)|I could have a white Rum,but if I wanted dark rum there's a charge at the top bar, ( oh and they ran out of gin one night)|Cocktails were also chargeable at the top bar.|Although it's all inclusive service you're expected to pay for drinks after 11:00 at night and other branded drinks and speciality drinks like iced coffees. |My biggest challenge at the snack bar was trying to get the Guy that served the Gyros to smile, the Gyros was small ,pork ,small dollop of sauce ,1 piece of tomato, and a sprinkling of onion or you could have a slice of cold pizza if available .||EVENING MEAL |Dining room is all over the place ,no meet and greet, different foods scattered throughout the trays, no tables were set, get yourself a knife and fork, get your dinner, own drinks and then find yourself a table, no assistance at all, just staff there to clear tables, most nights between 7.30 and 8.30 it was manic, although I can say the food was excellent, not repetitive at all with a good amount of choice. ||WIFI|The WiFi throughout the hotel is usually hit and miss, didn't work very well around the pool and snack bar.||GUESTS|Be aware, very few English at this hotel during our stay and that's something the rep says they're looking to improve on in the future, While we were here, we felt isolated with only 6 rooms occupied by English out of the 195 rooms the hotel has, Its predominantly Eastern European guests who were there usual ignorant self (bear in mind) this hotel is mainly geared up for those guests.||POOLS |Pool side the sun loungers and makeshift parasols had seen better days (see photo) by the large pool with no lifeguard on dedicated duty, he spends most the time walking round clearing tables and sunbeds then back to the pool bar to help serve drinks.|The children's water park section never got cleaned whilst we were here, with dead insects and bits of sand littered some areas.|Very little in the way of daytime activities, I witnessed aqua aerobics and water polo a few times.||ENTERTAINMENT |No Adult entertainment at night except on Tuesday when it's Greek night although the kids have a mini disco from about 8:30 by the snack bar every night.|The Animation team wasn't geared up for the English, they only appeared twice a day (once for the morning and afternoon dance) aqua gym and water polo is all that was on offer.|The Jazz and Cigar lounge,(can't smoke or vape inside even though they sell cigars behind the bar - if you want to smoke a bought Cigar then you have to smoke them ,outside! Lol.|This should be an adults only area, with a bit more livelier music to enjoy and away from children who have their own entertainment area ( just my opinion)||GENERALLY |There's many things that this hotel can much improve on to warrant the 4 stars it displays on the plaque outside.|Also it's worth mentioning that there's no themed restaurants or Spa on site,if want a massage it will cost you €40 and you have it in your room!|The Argile, not content with you already spending a lot of money for the privilege of AI ,it seems they want to squeeze a bit more money from you for Branded soft drinks that any other hotel AI would serve as standard. |What wound me up was staff could have a iced coffee when they wanted but guests had to cough up €6 for one.||As for Kefelonia, it's beautiful , we did plenty of boat trips and have seen most of the island, I recommend the Ithaka island trip and the sun and sea cruise. ||Would we come back....Yes to the island....No...

Rooms were nice and clean, beds comfortable, little balcony and TV/coffee machine/bathrobes. Nice to have a sofa in the room which I think pulls out into the cot/bed for children. Aircon did not work in the room on arrival, called the reception and a man came to look. He wasn’t very good and said it was working when it clearly wasn’t and was a bit rude to us. Relied predominantly on the fan in the room for the rest of the stay. Not a large pool area – most of the nice beds were reserved with towels by 10am, despite a sign requesting guests not to do this. Did find a bed most days though. No lifeguard despite what some reviews said. Pool also closes at 6pm, seems a bit daft when its still light and hot at this time. We just stayed on the sunbeds until the sun went down. Food was good for a vegetarian. Lots of variety and wasn’t badly cooked – the restaurant got so busy though and could do with an update. Drinks were not good. Very watered down and generally not great. Beer and wine was also watered down. There was a pool bar with some gyros and pizza but this was just left out in the open and was crawling with flies so we didn’t touch that. My main gripe is around the beach/beach bar. There is a very small beach and beds here cause 20 euros to rent despite being part of the hotel. I felt this was bad given it was all inclusive and pictures implied the beach is part of the hotel. The beach is very narrow and not much space here. Someone mentioned a problem with erosion in another review and that seems correct. We did spend a morning at the beach bar, Alaya, which is part of the hotel but drinks here are all chargeable (albeit with a 10% discount from the hotel) and no all inclusive drinks available. The pictures of this on their website are quite misleading as it all looks part of the package. Most of the ‘entertainment’ – there wasn’t much but that didn’t really bother us – is in Polish as this seems to be a hotel for predominantly Polish guests. No issue with this either but just something to note if putting kids in the kids club etc. The jazz/cigar bar was nice but could have done with better music and drinks.
Overall, an ok all inclusive, but definitely...
Read moreI think some of the negative review of The Argile are a little harsh. We did have an unfortunate experience when we arrived in the middle of the night as there were no rooms. Apparently there had been flooding of rooms during a recent storm, so we were taken to a nearby hotel for one night. Popi the Manager was most apologetic and we were relieved to be back at The Argile the following morning as it is far superior to the one we had the first night in.||The Resort was clean and the rooms comfortable and well furnished. Yes, no information about phone or safe but a little common sense helped. Our safe was locked so I called reception and very soon someone came to open it and explain its operation. It is definitely not a Spa, but there are spa treatments available upon request as stated in their information.||The food was delicious and varied and staff always on hand to help if needed. As we have no small children we did not worry about that aspect. The main pool was clean and lots of sun beds. Yes the shades over the sun beds had seen better days but as it was almost the end of the season, one would hope they will be repaired for next season. As the season was easing off, no problem getting a sun bed, if not round the pool, plenty more to be had elsewhere. ||Xi beach was disappointing but apparently there was a storm about 18 months ago and the sea levels have never receded to previous levels. This is something which is beyond anyone's control and maybe the local authorities need to revise how they advertise it, not just The Argile! The Hotel is a little more remote than we expected but there were local restaurants/bars along Xi beach. The bus into Lixuori was on time and very reasonable but probably very crowded in high season.||Local drinks were acceptable, as we expected being all inclusive and again, clearly states when extra costs will be incurred.||We found the majority of other guests polite whatever their nationality.||This is a four star all inclusive resort and we were very happy...
