Or arrival on the island was unplanned - in fact we had planned to go to Fuerteventura that week, but an ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano that Summer meant a sudden change of plan. The island was recommended by a taxi driver at the port town of Pireaus and we looked up the hotel on the ferry on the way over.||||Positives:||We were wandering up and down the main st. of the town looking for it when the local tourist office asked if we needed help. When we told them they rang the owner, who came down to fetch us - which was nice.||He gave us the internet price rate, even tho we hadn't booked online.||The room was very clean and had twin beds but these can be pushed together and had air-conditioning which was a big plus for us and had gorgeous views over the sea from the balcony and towards the hills from the the bedroom window.||The kitchenette was small but functional - a decent sized fridge - vital from keeping drinks cool and a two-ring cooker - useful if you wanted to boil eggs or such like for breakfast.||The hotel is set slightly back from the town which meant to was much quieter than those along the main street. But there is a slight incline when walking up to it - but that does ensure nicer views :-)||The town proved to be a great based for exploring the island.||When the time case for us to leave, we asked what time was check-out and he simply said - whatever time you're catching your ferry :-) - which was so so nice as it meant our last day wasn't rushed. ||||Negatives: The room was a little small.||The Hotel is on a slight incline - no problem for us but might not suit everyone.||The only small window in the bathroom opened onto the hall-way so it meant the bathroom got very steamy while taking a shower. ||||We can't comment on the pool side snack bar as it was closed at the time - probably because it was so early in the season||||DO : bring your driving license, hire a quad bike for a day and explore the island,||||DON'T : Choose this island if you have an intense dislike or fear of cats. Stray (or what appear to be stray) cats abound. They are not unpleasant or vicious in any way (quite friendly actually) but there are a...
Read moreBeen going to Helios twice a year for the past 5 years they always make you welcome, the rooms are big also balconies and very clean. It has the market at the back of the hotel on Wednesday and Sunday mornings worth having a look round. This time we found a few changes in the restaurant you must have your dining card with you for all meals now they take your room number also they charge for poolside rooms as from April this year. Not far from the promenade and night life, the hotel puts on entertainment in the day also evenings from June to September its outside which starts about 9pm they do have some good shows. We will be going again end of the year. They still let you have scooters an area out the front for you to charge them up but you can't take them in the hotel, hotel is very good for the disabled one of the...

The outdoor areas are great for eating and entertaining. ||Helios is only a short stroll down the Main Street where you will find the Pharmacy, supermarket, bakery and an amazing coffee shop (Lils). ||The pool is pristine with a small baby pool. Gregory the owner is one of the friendliest people you will meet and always around to help with anything. The staff are also friendly and helpful.
