Mirthea Suites — Hotel in Municipality of Agios Vasileios

We spent 5 magical days in one of the accommodation units at Mirthea Suites. We came to this part of South Crete both to enjoy ourselves and to look for a plot on which we might be able to build a house (and we found it!). Anyway, we enjoyed every moment at Kostas' place. First of all his food - I have never seen such personal treatment and attention to the pleasure of the guests, in dozens of hotels and aib bnb we visited on four continents. He came once or twice a day to check how the guests were doing, to check if there was anything missing that could contribute to our enjoyment, and just to chat.

The unit itself was ingeniously designed in our opinion (my wife is an interior designer so she knows something about design). Everything is comfortable, looks brand new, well designed including all the smallest details. A sitting area downstairs, a bedroom upstairs, and of course a sitting area outside, by the pool. We also really enjoyed the barbecue corner - we didn't get to prepare anything on the grill, but we ate a few meals there, in the shade of the pergola.

The mattress was very comfortable. I understood that it was a coconut mattress, I didn't know this type before, apparently the coconut fibers are what makes the difference). So are the pillows. And so are the white sheets. What is needed for a deep sleep, after an excellent dinner in one of the taverns of the village or of the neighboring village, we tried several of them. The view was perfect - looking down at the houses of the beautiful village where we lived, looking up a little to the right to the neighboring village, and a little to the left towards the bay, the cliffs, the beach of Plakias, the olive groves, and much more. I spent hours watching the scenery. The welcome package was very generous - and demonstrated the generosity of the wonderful Greek people. It included so many things (I won't reveal to keep the surprise). Just saying the white muscat wine that was waiting for us was excellent, I tried to look for one in the stores and couldn't find it but one day I will find it and buy a few bottles. In short, if you come to the area, and one of the dining units is available - do something good for yourself...

Mirthea Suites is a very special hotel. We were looking for a home base to explore the southern coast of Crete and found Mirthea Suites which is just up the hill from Plakias Beach. The price was very attractive but when we arrived the Hotel far exceeded our expectations. It was easy to find using Apple Maps App. We just followed the instructions and arrived. I have to have coffee in the morning and the room includes a Nespresso coffee machine with free pods which is my favorite! The finishes and fixtures are high end. The bed is wonderful and my back is grateful for it. Whoever designed the hotel was incredibly thoughtful and clever. Every square inch is optimized. The shower is a glass enclosure with rain shower fixture and skylight. There is a 6kg compact washer next to the beautiful washing basin sink. Look at the photos on the website - it is more beautiful in person. And that is just our room. Other Suites include hot tub, private patio veranda. You will want for nothing. There is also a lovely pool with lounge area and BBQ just outside my door. The rooms have wonderfully designed kitchens so you can self cater if you feel inclined. Lights are remote control via tablet and you have air conditioning if needed. We just left all the doors and windows open and the breeze pleasantly flowed through the white sheer curtains. This place is so romantic. There are wine glasses in the kitchen and Kostas your Host provides a complimentary bottle of wine in a beautiful gift basket with other goodies. But the most amazing feature is the view. The poolside terrace looks out over the entire expanse of Plakias Beach and the surrounding hillsides. We were lucky to have perfect weather conditions (in November!) and the blue sky and azure sea transports you back in time reminding you that Crete is a place of deep history and cultural significance. Mirthias Suites is magical and Kostas our host has created a hospitality work of art. I can only compare this location to our trip to Santorini 10 years ago. We are on day 3 out of our 4 day stay at Mirthea Suites and I can already say confidently that this is a place I will be returning to. Stunning, stunning apartment with an incredible pool and outdoor dining area and an even better view. The best part of the experience however has been the service and hospitality. Kostas and anyone else on the team has been so so helpful weeks in advance with communications, recommendations and helping us be the most prepared to have a great time in Crete. The experience feels very luxurious whilst being so down to earth and uncomplicated, the cleaning and servicing is immaculate and there's nothing missing really.
