We really loved this place. Archanes may not be the most charming of Cretan villages (it's pretty close to Heraklion) but it has interesting meandering streets, great restaurants, and easy access to local sites and countryside. The three ``houses'' in the hotel are all super quiet, full of charm, and very comfortable. They are a bit creaky, but that's exactly the charm. Ours had a pretty well equipped kitchen. We didn't use it much because the breakfasts are so satisfying and the local restaurants such good value, but it was still nice to be able to make tea/coffee and put snacks and local food we'd bought in the fridge. We spent most of our time touring the area, but we'd have been just as happy lounging around the house. Lefteris is a great host, full of funny stories and good advice. One warning point I'd make: parking in the village is not easy and the houses are down a lane, so it's not ideal with heavy bags. There are certainly cheaper options in Crete, but we found our house to...
Read moreBy Cretan standards, this is a relatively expensive place. It is however very worth it if one can afford it.||Near the center of town with many restaurants...||PROs: ||Picturesque small houses, very spacious (one bedroom upstairs with a balcony featuring a beautiful view of the mountain, a living room and a kitchen downstairs), furnished to give a genuine homy feeling. Opening on a quiet courtyard grass courtyard framed by bougainvillieas.||Excellent copious Greek breakfast (Yoghurt with fruit and honey, eggs, cheese pie, bread butter and jam, juice...)||Very nice, helpful, knowledgeable host, with excellent advice as to what to do or where to eat.||||Potential CONs: ||Parking: street parking only, quite limited on the (narrow main) street right above the hotel (a one way street better reached from the south end of the village).||Noise: a local restaurant has live music on some evenings which goes on until about 10pm. Could be a problem for...
Read morePerfect place to relax! It was our second time visiting Archanes but our first time staying here and it couldn’t have been a better choice. The house is right in the heart of the village, so you can walk everywhere, even go hiking, without the need of a car. We did have a car but we left it a 2-3 minute walking distance, since the house is in a quiet, cobbled street with and an old small church.
The house itself is spacious, full of charm, and has a relaxing outdoor area perfect for unwinding. Breakfast was delicious, made with mostly cretan products by a lovely lady, every day a basket was coming to our apartment. Thank you Stavros for the check-in and all your help. We had an amazing week and really hope we can come...
