Galini Apartments & Studios — Hotel in Municipality of Chersonissos

As the title says, please do not stay at this hotel! - I know this review is very long, but PLEASE read it - You need to know what you would be letting yourself in for!!!!! This is one of the dirtiest, run down & unwelcoming hotels I have ever stayed in, and can safely say that it completely spoiled what should of been a brilliant holiday. I stayed here in 2011 with 3 of my friends as our first girls holiday away in Malia. Now don't get me wrong, I had read reviews and knew that I wasn't to expect the ritz or a 5* hotel, but nothing could have prepared us for the horror that we had to sleep in for 7 days... I shall begin my story! When we arrived, we were greeted (well I say greeted, more like shouted at) by a very fat and very smelly greek security guard, who could not speak a work of English. He grunted at us for a while before taking us to the front desk. Now, we were told that when we arrived our passports would be taken off us and 'secured safely' with reception staff until the day of our departure. What actually happened was they were thrown into sandwich boxes and stuffed behind the reception desk for anyone to be able to get their hands on. Anwyay, he eventually gave us our hotel room key, but gave us no direction whatsoever to where our room was, so we ended up walking around for 15 minutes to try and find our room as he would not help us because he was dealing with other guests. When we eventually found our room, I cannot even begin to explain the shock when we saw it. Disgusting is not the word! The beds (if you can call them beds) were the thinnest pieces of sponge like mattress to lie on, and plain white sheets with one pillow as thin as a sheet of paper - But that isn't all. On closer inspection, we found ants all over our bedsheets and all the work surfaces. The kitchen had no appliances whatsoever, and the cupboard doors hanging on by their hinges with all paint chipped off them. The stove was filthy, and clearly hadn't been cleaned before our arrival. We ventured into the bathroom, only to find that our toilet chain wasn't working correctly and was hanging off - Because we were all desperate for the toilet from our long journey, we had to go downstairs and tell the security guard it was broken to see if he could fix it. He huffed and puffed and shouted some angry sounding greek words, then eventually stomped up to our room with us - He pulled and pushed the chain but couldn't get it working, and said some workmen would be up the following morning to fix it for us (not specifying a time they would be coming) - When I say that our room was sweltering, I am not exaggerating. It was literally hard to just walk around the apartment without feeling like you were going to faint, and one of our windows was not working and would not open - We asked the security man if we could have the air conditioning on, which he then explained would be $50 (but we had already heard this so were expecting it) - But then he told us he didn't know how to do it, so we would have to wait until the following day when the receptionist was back in. As we walked around our apartment, we had to hang our sheets over the balcony and shake the ants off, and my friend also had to remove a cockroach out of our bathroom!!! So as you can imagine, we all had to sleep practically naked that night apart from bra & pants, as the heat was unbearable. We were woken up at (from what I can remember) 6:45 the next morning with someone banging and knocking our front door - Before any of us had even managed to sit up, 2 greek men came stomping into the apartment (while we were all still lying in our bra and pants) to fix the toilet. They looked at us all and said something in greek then started laughing - This made us all feel so uncomfortable!! After they left, we got dressed and explored the pool area. Now, they will charge you for anything that they possibly can, and i mean ANYTHING. The food from the pool bar is so expensive, but you are not allowed to bring anything from the supermarket unless you eat it in your room. Me & my friend did not realise this, and went to buy some pringles from the supermarket across the road. We were eating them while sat on the sunbed, until the security guard came over, picked them up and started demanding $50 from us!! After we explained that there was no sign telling us and we didnt know, he let us off but took the pringles and emptied them into the bin!! After an eventful day, we went to pay for our air conditioning - When we got into our room, we realised what a complete waste of money it was!!! The air conditioning was only in the bedroom, and was so rubbish it didn't circulate around the apartment at all! - To make matters worse, you coudn't leave it on when you went out, in order for it to work you had to be in the apartment with the room card (instead of a room key you have a card) inserted into to air conditioning. A complete waste of money. Please do not stay at this hotel, I cannot stress to you enough how awful it was. When you come back after a night out, you can't wear heels or even talk to each other as you walk through the hotel as the security guard will try and charge you $50 for being too noisy, it really is pathetic. Also, when you leave they won't give you your passport back until they have checked your room completey to see if anyting is broken (which they tried to charge us $70 for the broken toilet chain until we explained it was broken when we got there). The swimming pool is really quite small and looks nothing like the pictures online, and they kicked you out of the pool at a certain time and you were not allowed back in until the following morning. The only good thing I would say about this hotel is that it was right on the strip (which is what me and my friends wanted) so we didn't ever have to pay for taxi's to go anywhere. Here are a few tips for when you go to Malia - You MUST MUST MUST go the to red lion pub - It served the best english food ever, and we ate here every single night!!!! Watch McDonald's on the corner (at the very bottom of the strip) as every morning people clean by swilling all the sick & rubbish from the top of the strip downhill to clean the streets, but it all puddles up outside McDonalds and STINKS! Galini apartments is practically next door to Mcdonalds too, so sometimes you got a whiff of it when you walked outside which wasn't nice! - Please find somewhere else to stay as I would hate anyone to go through what we did, and if you are going to stay here, all I can say is good luck!!!!!! went with my partner and 11 year old son on the 19th august 2011 as a last minute 1 week holiday,what a waste of money.got there at 5.30 am and the music from the main strip was still going.went to sleap and was woken by music from the pool bar at 10am which went on untill 8pm and there was no getting a way from it and it was loud.once this went of the night music started and went on till 6 am from the cocktail bar and the night club/pubs.you might get some sleap between 6am and 10am.||the heat will get you and then the mozzies of the bed bugs ?.||there is no pleasantries about this hotel its just boreing and unfriendly,there is warnings around the pool for fines - partying in the pool or your room 150 euros,food or drink around the pool not purchased from the hotel 50 euros,swimming in the pool after 8pm 50 euros.and then in your room there is a long list of fines from marking the walls to damageing the bed,to long to list.so be ware this place could cost you a fortune if your not carefull.||you get 1 toilet roll in your room on arrival,your bedding is changed once a week but ours was stained on arrival,there were 3 of us and we were left a towel each which was the size of a tea towel agin change once in the week.the beds feel like they are crawling with something ?if you want the air conditioning unit on then you have to pay 50 euros for the week.||beware pf the pool there is no shallow end .||the only friendly pleasant person is the bar man in the cocktail bar.||as to the resort the beach is crap and full of sea weed,the resort is unclean and full of mopeds quads and kids whizzing round on them.||apart from that there is one good thing the food and drink in the resort is all reasonably priced and its worth going out.try the food at the red lion really worth eating or drinking there food great ,price great and staff excellant.||its also worth going up to the old town the resteraunts are well worth a visit.||this is not the place to take kids or for a relaxing holiday,its only worth it if...

me and 5 other girls went for a clubbing holiday in malia for 7 days, from the website the hotel looked lovely! ||after reading many other people's reviews on the appartment after booking it seemed that we'd made a mistake , but tried to stay possitive. ||||however when we got off the coach and lined up to be shown to our rooms a few lads (who believe it or not we became great friends with during our first few days at galini) told us that the hotel was really bad and you got fined for everything , which we found out was actually true. ||||The security guard who stands at the front to show you to your room and greet you was not very welcoming., however as we got to know him he wasnt too bad and if you treat him with respect he will do the same. however the hotel owner is not very nice and does not care unless you buy some thing from his bar. My friend was very poorly and had to lie on the hotel sofa outside , because we had been checked out of our room and were waiting for out coach he shouted at us to get up and did not care that our friend was throwing up in a bag!||||The hotel inside was out of date but was cleaned every other day by the hotel maids who would clean with you still sleeping in your bed as i learnt one day while i was woken by a knocking on my door lol ||||you will be fined for basically everything you can think of !!||||Malia beach and away from the hotel was fab i would come to malia again ! but never to this hotel!!! be warned dont make the same...
