Golden Sunlight by Checkin — Hotel in Municipality of Chersonissos

I booked a “Superior Triple Room with sea view,” but received a land/road view directly facing the main highway. Traffic noise was constant day and night, and there was no real soundproofing despite being advertised. No wardrobe or storage space was provided – we had to keep our clothes and luggage on the floor. The bathroom had no ventilation (neither window nor fan), which caused discomfort, especially after using the toilet. The shower did not work properly, with an uneven water stream.

Service Staff were friendly and explained everything we needed from check-in to check-out. At departure, we received juice for the kids and the city tax was waived. However, when I asked to change to a room matching the description, I was refused and told “Booking made a mistake.” I know property descriptions are uploaded by the hotel, not by the platform, so this felt like a lack of accountability. The defensive attitude left a poor impression.

Location The hotel is located right next to the main highway, resulting in heavy traffic and constant noise. The booking mentioned “sea view,” but the sea is far away – at best there is a very distant, partial glimpse. The balcony itself was spacious and useful, but the direct view to traffic and the noise made it unpleasant.

Food & drinks Breakfast was basic but fine: eggs, cereal, milk, coffee, juice. However, pastries were the same every day with no variety. Overall decent, but repetitive.

Noteworthy details • The fridge was useful but a bit noisy. • Common areas are austere and lack atmosphere, giving more of a guesthouse than a 3★ hotel impression. • Value for money is low: we paid ~€770 for 7 nights in a “superior triple with sea view” but received a much lower standard room facing the road, with multiple...

Wir waren im August ’21 rund 11 Nächte in diesem Hotel. Das Hotel liegt in zweiter Reihe zu der Hauptstraße in Gouves, aber da wir in Zimmer zur Pool-Seite hatten, haben wir überhaupt keinen Lärm gehört. ||||Das Hotel ist sehr neu und modern eingerichtet. Unser Zimmer war geräumig, verfügte über ein Bett, Couch, einem kleinen Beistelltisch und draußen auf dem Balkon über eine kleine Sitzgruppe. ||||Bei Ankunft hat das Badezimmer etwas streng gerochen, was wir am nächsten Tag reklamierten. Die Dame des Hauses hat uns versichert, dass das Badezimmer super gereinigt sei und es nur daran gelegen hätte, dass wir das Badezimmerfenster geschlossen haben. Das darf eigentlich nicht sein, dass man nur die Symptome bekämpft, und nicht die Ursache, deswegen Punktabzug. Die Reinigung war sowieso etwas komisch. Es wurde zwar täglich das Bad gereinigt und das Bett gemacht usw., aber z.B. nicht jeden Tag gefegt/gesaugt, was gerade in einem durchaus sandigen, staubigen Land nicht hilfreich war.||||Das Frühstück (bestehend aus: Croissants, kleinen Brötchen, Toast, Kochschinken, Käse, Butter, Marmelade, auf Wunsch Eier, manchmal Kuchen) war sehr gut, aber leider nach zwei Wochen doch durchaus etwas eintönig. Hier zu muss man aber fairerweise sagen, dass das hier vermutlich der etwas reduzierte Covid19-Modus ist und es irgendwann wieder ein normales Buffett gibt, was dann vielleicht etwas reichhaltiger ist. ||||Die Poolanlage nach hinten raus ist schön angelegt und für die Anzahl an Zimmern vollkommen ausreichend. Wir hatten den Pool oft für uns allein und konnten gut entspannen. Nach vorne raus gibt es einen kleinen Garten und eine große Terrasse, wo das Frühstück stattfindet. Dort sitzt man auch sehr gut und schaut quasi ins Grüne.||||Rund zwei Minuten zu Fuß ist ein Bus Stop an der Hauptstraße erreichbar. Von hier aus kommt man für 2,20 Euro pro Person nach Heraklion oder zum Airport. Das ist insbesondere dann zu empfehlen, wenn man keine Lust hat von Taxifahrern abgezockt zu werden die sich weigern das Taxameter anzuschalten. Der Fahrplan ist aber eher eine grobe Orientierung und nicht komplett verlässlich. ||||Hier in der Nähe ist auch ein kleiner Supermarkt zu finden (etwa 3 Minuten entfernt) der zwar nicht supergünstig ist, aber für kleinere Einkäufe wie Getränke ausreicht. Für größere Einkäufe empfiehlt es sich z.B. sich einen Lidl außerhalb von Gouves zu suchen, was aber ohne Mietwagen kaum erreichbar ist. Eine kleine Restaurantmeile ist etwa 10 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt (wir können hier das "Mylos" für die griechische Küche und das "Medusa" für Fischgerichte empfehlen) und der Strand nur wenige...

We used this hotel as a base for 3 nights during a friends wedding close by. Hotel was small and modern, and kept lovely and clean! The rooms were big and again clean and well maintained! Cleaned thoroughly throughout the day whilst we was out which was amazing! The air con was fantastic! We used the pool once and it was clean and well kept, we actually had it all to ourselves which was lovely. Only had breakfast one morning, but there was plenty of choice and a lovely area to sit and eat outside. There isn't anywhere in the hotel to get food apart from breakfast so make sure you keep snacks in your room. There is a shop 5 minutes round the corner.
