We stayed at Mati Hotel from May 1, 2015 through May 14, 2015. We had a lovely 2 week vacation. JoAnna and Natasha make you feel like you're part of their family. Elaini is very sweet on the front desk. Mario was in the dining room, bar and all over helping. They are a family of individuals to make your stay feel like it is truly home away from home.
The view from our room was fantastic. Enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets from the balcony. The one day of high winds was entertaining watching the white caps on the Aegean Sea and spash on the shore line. (We live in Arizona, so watching the water is fantastic for us!).
The room is comfortable. In order to accommodate more types of clients, they put two twins together for a 'double'. We stayed at another hotel and the beds were so low we had difficulty getting in and out. But these were 'normal height'. The flooring is laminate since they are on the sea and many bring in dirt from the ocean area. It is a rocky coast line. Not the fine sand we see on the Florida coasts. Water was warm, but since so rocky, didn't try walking into it!
The Ancient Archoelogical sites are within a 1.5 to 2 hr drive from the hotel. We used my cell phone for directions and managed to get lost only a 'few' times. Rent a car using Diesel rather than gas. Better economy and much better prices using the Euro. Tried Hertz rental and their cars and service were not the best. Went to Enterprise and their car was fantastic (SKODA, we don't have them in the US). Great ride & easy to use on the tiny streets, but seats 4 easily with a large trunk!... They will also permit you to drive in Greece using your US drivers license (but I had an International one from AAA just in case). They do charge more if more than 1 driver.
Natasha gave us ideas of where to go. We went to Delphi to see the Old City. Lots of steps to get up to them, but worth it! There is a lovely museum there, as well. Went to Athens (crazy drivers...) but only place to get the 'chanchi' type souveniers I wanted for my Grandchildren...Monostraki area. Many like the Platka area, but that is the fancier shops. There are outlets, as well, but they have NOTHING that is a souvenier type item to bring home. Natasha and Joanna suggested we take the train (Metro) into Athens (even the Greeks don't drive in Athens!). If you pay attention to the signs, you should be OK. We managed to get lost only 1 time using them. All day pass is 4 Euro each. Parking at the station is a challenge, but you can find it for about 5 Euro a day. If you do venture into Athens driving, there are garages for about 9-18 Euro, but get prices up front!
We overpaid one Taxi...should have been 3.5 Euro for the short ride....he charged 13.... Get prices up front, if you need a taxi.
To get the Hotel Mati from the airport, there is a back road that is a LOT shorter than the Toll Road. If you ask the Hotel to arrange the driver for you, it is about 30 Euro one way. GPS will take you the back roads, too!
Enjoy your Holiday at this lovely Hotel. Very safe. Happy people work here and do their best to help you have a terrific time in Greece. LOVE them very much!!!
Greece roads are tiny in the villages, so rent a small car, but not a midget. (We had a Suzuki Mini...awful car...for the first 3 days). The Skoda was a nice car to rent. Not expensive and they don't put a huge hold on your credit card. I paid extra for the full coverage to not worry about anything. Worth the peace of mind!
Would like about a 4.5 star rating because of the flooring and separate beds, but comfortable. Small refrigerator helps to keep water and soda cold. Nearby groceries for cheese & bread. Try the...

We booked a room with a double bed. When I called to book it I only asked for a sea view and that we will come just after our wedding. So, newly-weds and since I was a former reception employee, I was expecting for a complimentary service, like all hotels have. A bottle of wine? Some fruit? Coctail vouchers? Dinner vouchers? Something. But we got nothing. Not only that, but they put us in an ugly room - 215 - , with old furniture, small and didn't have a nice ambiance. They told us that it has been a misunderstanding with our reservation and they're going to change us in another room. I expected on the 5th but no, we stayed 2 days there and then for the last day, they changed us the room and we went to - 209 - with sea view and pool view everything, bigger than the other and with a very large bed. All better but still nothing complimentary for the newly-weds. Dissapointing for a 4star hotel. The women at the reception (except the night shift, very kind woman) non smiley, very strict let's say. They never asked how was our stay, if we needed anything, or even when we payed at the end, nothing to check if everything was okay, if we had a good time you know. Breakfast was really good, the guys at the bar super nice, friendly and kind. Prices over the top (why though) and the quality was descent.
For a mini honeymoon after our wedding, I won't recommend it, but just for a couple of days before getting to another destination, it may...
Read moreFirst of all, I booked a room in this hotel because they claimed to offer "shuttle service" from/to the airport. They don't, what they do is call you a taxi that you will have to pay for, for which you have to wait about an hour in the airport.. as if I can't do that myself! Secondly, the staff is not friendly at all! My girlfriend complained about the lack of internet connection and was told to "restart all of her devices" because then it "should work" and that they had no other complaints. Then, there is the room, it didn't meet our expectations. The bathroom door doesn't close, swings open whenever you try to close it, granted it doesn't lock, but it doesn't even close! The keys holder was broken, it was not clean, the bathroom curtains were not clean, I mention the internet connection is non-existent? I called the reciption asking if we can get food to the room, you know.. room service. I was told to come down to the reciption to take a menu, then decide what I want to order, then call the reciption again. What kind of system is that?! We couldn't believe this was a 4 star hotel, we wouldn't normally complain about this if it was a 2 star hotel for example. The room needed renovation. We were glad we had to stay only one night there. All in all I do not recommend this...
