For many years I have traveled 100 or more days a year. In SEP-OCT 2022, I traveled for a month in Greece staying at 12 hotels (and on an overnight Ferry). In this context, my stay at Miami Hotel in Mati near Rafina to catch a ferry was good at a low price. Leaving for the islands is MUCH easier from Rafina than from the huge and very confusing Pyreaus port. Arriving to Pyreaus is OK though.||PROS: Low Price. Clean (I stayed only one night so I do not know how often towels are changed). Good but basic breakfast. The best Musaka of my whole trip at the restaurant in the same block at the corner facing the sea. A small but nice beach is a block away. The taxi ordered by the hotel picked me on time for the ferry.||CONS: you need a taxi to and from the Port or bust station where I arrived, at a cost of 11 euros each way. Miami Hotel not too good of a choice if you need to catch an early Ferry. Next time I will stay in Rafina withing walking distance to the ferry docks.||Parting remarks: Greece is wonderful, except the touristic islands which were crowded even in October and I may skip them altogether next time. The Peloponesse resulted better than expected. Athens was safe anytime anywhere I moved, even after midnight. Travel light because not all hotels have elevators and in ancient towns you will climb many stairs and walk over cobblestones. Missing church number 59 was OK, sitting in a café watching people go by and doing nothing was fine even for hyper me. I had a...
Read moreI spent just one day in Mati on a long stopover in Greece and found the place charming and the people even more so. I had no great expectations of the location – just wanted somewhere to sleep, walk around, eat some and shower before setting off back to the airport. ||The staff – a family – were welcoming without any fuss and immediately responsive to my needs and queries. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean and I had a balcony in amongst the gorgeous pines. The breakfast/dinner area was beautifully laid out and immediately made me feel relaxed. Apparently they offer food in the restaurant but they were also equally happy to recommend a Seafood restaurant nearby. ||Despite a mix up with timing (my fault entirely) they also helped me out by finding me a taxi driver to return to the airport (who charged me almost half the price of the rip-off merchant who'd brought me out there in the first place) and in incredibly good time. ||Although my stay there was brief I can highly recommend this little...
Read moreI had a reservation in this hotel for August 1-2. However, this hotel is in the middle of the terrible fire zone that destroyed so much of the area on July 24. Booking.com was great in helping me cancel my reservation and get a full refund, even though I booked a non-refundable room. They tried to get in touch with the hotel and couldn't get through to them. They also helped me find a good replacement far from the fire zone and I was really grateful to them for their help. ||||However, I don't understand why Booking.com is currently taking reservations for the hotel when the hotel's own web site says there is no availability even into 2019. I'm afraid the hotel does not exist any longer. If people are interested in staying here, they really need to double check that it is open for business at the moment. I truly hope it is open, but I...
