Don’t forget, Greece is a country that has been hit hard by European economic policy – and it clearly shows in the maintenance of the roads and other services.
A gentle breeze of neglect has been blowing across Corfu and its sister islands for some time now...
However, in spite of the difficult situation, everyone I met and spoke to were friendly and helpful – none more so than at the Andromeda Hotel in Sidari.
Privately owned and managed – the Andromeda is a prime example of how to make the best of something when faced with adversity.
Billy, the owner, takes great pride in the appearance of the hotel… you only have to compare the other hotels en-route to realize this. The Andromeda frontage, like the rest of its gardens, pool, bar, restaurant and apartments are immaculately maintained. I think you’d call it ‘kerb appeal’ if there were any.
The food is simple but freshly made with a good selection of family favorites and delicious Greek staples. If you are looking for deep-fried everything you’ve come to the wrong place. The menus - like the kitchen and waiting staff are flexible. If you want to ‘mix it up a little’ they are more than happy to accommodate.
Of course, the quiet and unassuming Andromeda won’t be to everyone’s taste, but if all you want is somewhere clean and friendly to relax - somewhere you can switch off with your family and friends, good food and pleasant surroundings, then I would say, it’s just about perfect. I’ve not slept so well in years.
Family run accommodation like the Andromeda may not have all the facilities of the soulless hotels associated with large tour operators – who guarantee the hotel owners capacity regardless - Billy, family and staff fill the Andromeda the old fashioned way - through sheer determination, quality service and hard work. I actually felt guilty sitting by the pool as they beaver away in the background to make my stay unforgettable.
The Andromeda may be smaller, but they work a lot harder for your custom. And they deserve all the custom they get, including yours and you certainly won’t be...
Read moreIf you're wanting a quiet, tranquil and relaxing little piece of paradise then this is the place for you. Billy, the owner, and all the staff were welcoming, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. All spoke excellent English. On arrival we were given a welcome drink and bottle of water, upgraded to a spacious maisonette which was spotless - cleaned on a daily basis. Had all the facilities that we needed plus air con, wifi and safe provided free of charge. Balcony overlooked the fabulous pool area which was surrounded by lush gardens. Plenty of sun beds and umbrellas, no getting up at silly o'clock to reserve your bed! There was also plenty of hot water, no cold showers for us! Breakfast was amazing both the Greek continental and cooked English, best coffee I've had abroad. We were the only people on half board so we were treated like royalty, totally spoilt with a delicious three course home cooked meal. Billy asked everyday what we'd like, we could never decide so left it as a surprise - outstanding and never disappointed. The location is good, it took us 20 minutes to walk to the nearest beaches, bars and restaurants. We had the best of both worlds, Andromeda is set in a quite area but the action isn't too far away. Billy went out of his way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay, we felt like part of the family. We didn't want to leave and will definitely go back. I can't recommend this place enough, so relaxing and peaceful. We felt really safe and well...
Read moreThe Adromeda is an amazing place to stay. Upon arrival at the clearly well kept hotel, we were warmly welcomed with a cool refreshing drink, by the attentive owner 'Billy' and his friendly welcoming staff. Billy and his staff made our trip more interesting with their advice & tips about the area, wildlife and vehicle hire etc. You could stay within the complex as food and drinks are available, or the town of Sidari is within walking distance. I Would certainly recommend the Adromeda to families and couples alike!I am a seasoned traveller, having stayed far and wide, but the Adromeda ranks high on my lists of top places, it's certainly more of a 5* rating, than it's posted 2*. The Adromeda is a very clean, beautiful, relaxing place, with such a breath taking backdrop of the hills, forests and Olive Groves. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Billy and his staff make the Adromeda a true example of excellent and outstanding hospitality. I wish to sincerely thank you again Billy, Jonny, etc for making our stay at the beautiful Adromeda, a very memorable one, we will return, for sure...... We have returned...
