Hippokratis Apartments — Hotel in Municipality of Platanias

We spent two wonderful weeks at Hippokratis Apartments with our little son, and we can honestly say it is one of the best places we have ever stayed. Without a doubt, when we next return to Crete, this will be our first choice.

The apartment had everything we needed – it was spotless, comfortable, and in an absolutely superb location right by the sea. The atmosphere was fantastic: the calming sound of the waves, the peaceful surroundings, and the genuine kindness of the hosts made our stay unforgettable.

Lisa was simply amazing – always so friendly, helpful, and a joy to talk to. She made sure we had everything we needed, and often even more. The room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels every other day, which made our stay especially comfortable.

The owners serve delicious food at very fair prices, and the whole family provides excellent customer service. Their children, who also help in the restaurant, were exceptionally polite and professional – a real credit to their parents. Their daughter’s singing and playing created such a warm and authentic atmosphere, which made the experience even more special.

Our son absolutely loved the large swimming pool, and we loved the fact that every detail was taken care of. We honestly have nothing negative to say about this place – only the highest praise.

We were here for five days in mid-June.||||The rooms are lovely, with plenty of space (we came as a couple), and the hotel is in an amazing place, right on the beach, with a peninsula to the left and an island to the right. The sea was clean and of course we swam every day. There is also a pool, but we didn't swim in it because we were in the sea. It looked nice, though.||||We were told it was turtle season, and that at least one turtle had laid her eggs a few nights before we go there. We didn't see the turtles, though. But there was a small group who had placed a small marker and came to check on the eggs each day.||||However, really, the greatest thing about the hotel - and the rooms, location and beach are genuinely excellent - is the food. We spent a total of 11 nights in Crete on this trip, and the island's reputation for great food is well deserved. But even though we visited several different restaurants, many of them very good, this was the place that did the best food. Their peppers fried in a light batter and their dakos were genuinely perfect. Their bread was amazing and every one of their other dishes were superb.||||Their cocktails are also well worth trying. We were staying nearby and went to the bar a couple of times. This is a family run business, with two of the sons of the owner working as waiters. Unfortunately, they do a pretty poor job. You often have to go up to the bar after waiting for 20 minutes and ask that they take your order. After being served, they never coke back to ask if you want another round...

Also, the owner seems to be obsessed with trying to get you to eat there, even though he is obviously selling store bought frozen pizzas and chicken fingers. Why would anyone want to eat that? On holiday?

We did think that we'd give them a chance once, to try their breakfast menu - which is in the menu on the first page - but it turns out, they don't do breakfast.... when asked about this, the owner got defensive and said he didn't have time to serve breakfast.... yet he keeps the breakfast options on the menu.

All in all, it's an okay place for a drink and the views are great. I just think they could do so much better with a better more service oriented attitude. Something that other places in Crete...
