Our first trip to Crete and due a late flight decided to book this apartment as it is less than 30 mins drive from the airpor, right next to the beach and has a pool. The place was easy to find and the owner was nice enough to stay outside the normal opening times for the reception. Sadly the apartment we were assigned was not upto the standard pictured in any of the photos shown on the booking site. It was ground floor of the annex building rather than the main building which I assume has been decorated more recently than where we were situated. The room had a very worn out feel with wooden cabinets and shelving in the main room and kitchen area. There was no microwave provided just a hotplate. The bathroom had a sink area and then a subroom where the toilet was located and in the subroom was also the shower faucet on the wall which was very poorly located and due to no curtain or door to this subroom meant it was hard to wash and stop water from soaking the floor in the sink area. Yes I've been to Greece before and know they have different styles of bathrooms to the UK but this was just unusable in the way they had just stuck both the toilet and shower in the same tiny space. The room had air conditioning which had a daily charge for using which I understood is a way for the owners to recoop costs but this apartment had no widows that were able to be opened so the only way you could have any airflow would be to have the front and back doors open which is not idea for security when your sleeping and based on the ground floor less than 10 seconds from the beach. The place has a great size pool and always has empty sun loungers so no worries about finding one any time of the day. The beach as mentioned was 10 seconds walk from the back door and even though it was stoney was nice to be able to get to in such a short distance for going in the sea. With a little bit of effort to bring this apartment up to scratch this would be a great...
Read moreyesterday we came back from vacation in this hotel. Some things were great: 1. appearance of the hotel. 2. location. 3. pool area 4. few steps to the sea. However, there were a few problems: 1. the toilet seats in both toilets were completely worn out. 2. an old kitchen tap that made terrible noises while washing up. the faucet would not close all the way and water was dripping. the kitchen cupboard with the sink fouled all over. 3. big smelly rubbish pans set in front of the hotel entrance - they can somehow be nicely covered. 4. dark rooms, poorly lit. 5. The lock on the door to our room (room 22) was tragic. Maria, when checking in, struggled to open the door herself. the lock was not repaired for our entire stay. 6.On the last day we had two situations: a) the voucher said that we checked out at 12 o'clock the owner Maria said that she knows it is like that but she cannot change it and this is her hotel and check out is at 11 oclock b) we took two blankets one evening on the beach. one blanket lay on the sand and the other was covered. After returning, we did not shake the sand blanket thoroughly. Maria said we have to pay for 3x blankets (12 euros) because they are dirty. It turns out that the blankets and bedspreads are not washed at all, because it costs 4 euros per item. I understand that if the blankets get dirty during use, the guests pay for it? If the blankets get dirty they get dirty with no visible, such blankets get another guest? I did not pay the fee for washing the blankets. Maria was rude and she shouted over the arguments. After contacting the travel agency, I found out that washing the blankets is a service and there is no charge. It was an attempt to extort money. The tax fee has been paid but I have not received a confirmation that it goes to tax - Maria as a world owner should know that the confirmation also seems to be. Matzi apartaments is an apartment in name only -...
Read moreWe had one big problem at our trip. Problem was owner. Owner is very rude and behaved very badly. If there is something broken in hotel room she will blame the customer. Additionally you have to pay extra about everything. For example air conditioning is 12€ per night and if you want order taxi. Hotel will take extra cost. But this things you can manage.||Big problem is that owner can really ruin your holiday like happened my family. She watches, oversees and follows all the time what you do. In our case we had broken coffee machine which didn't work properly from the start. We didn't think this is a big problem because there were many other little issues like not warm water all the time or broken power points. One day this coffee machine overheated and coffeepot got broken. We got to reception and what did owner? Se shout and shout and got insane mad and angry. We thought that we will be kicked out of this hotel. We couldn't discuss with her because she just shouted and raged all the time. We had with us little kids so it was little scary. Machine was already broken. Owner claimed that machine was just 2 weeks old but we thing she cheats. It looked like atleast 20 years old. There were also much other scraps in the rooms. After this it was really bad feelings to stay this hotel. ||Greece and Crete are wonderfull places. We had really good experiences there. But not in Matzi. Don't go there. But if you do be carefully with this owner. Se will blame you if their scraps got broken. All over the world things can settle and discuss but not...
