Have to say I am quite disappointed. The hotel is clearly trying to be 5, but attention to detail feels closer to 3. We got a pool/sea view room in the main hotel block. We arrived late but I noted that the latch to the door could easily be slipped by a card and the nightlatch wasn't engaging. I reported this the next morning as there was not much could be done that late. After wasting 3 hours waiting for maintenance to come go and take multiple attempts to fix, it was decided to move our room. The next room was notably smaller, but we coped. The AC was ineffective, probably because the filter was blocked by dirt. (Accessible through a ragged hole in plasterboard on the ceiling). I then found that the mattress was flat, sagged and very thin. The tap fell off at the sink on first use as it wasn't screwed on. The shower cubicle leaked water over the floor around the toilet. There was no easily accessible socket for the kettle. Apart from these the room was adequate. Housekeeping repeatedly forgot to top up the in-room coffee, sweeping the floor didn't appear to happen as sand and stones from the beach remained after a couple of days and the bottom sheet on the bed wasn't a very good fit and wasn't properly tucked, so I kept waking on the bare mattress.
Then there is the pool area. At first glance it was nice, but the cracked and loose tiles tell a different story. The grout lines in the pool and the pool drains were all filled with slimy black mould. This mould was also dropping off onto the bottom of the pool which had a significant amount of debris at the deeper end. They pressure washed the pool deck daily, but the drains and main pool were not cleaned during my stay. There was also a strong smell of raw sewage that often drifted across the main pool and kids pool. This sewage smell also permeated the main lobby of the hotel on the last two days. Perhaps this needs to be looked at by management. The self serve soda machine by the beach also appeared to have black mould around the nozzles. I doubt that was cleaned either during the stay.
The drinks and bars were ok, adequate cocktails but definitely at the lower end of the 5* resorts I've been too. Bar staff seemed friendly, but occasionally overworked.
The freezer for the ice-cream at the patisserie was broken for 2 of the 5 days we were there which was disappointing.
The a la carte restaurants were so so. Some very nice food like the lamb shanks, or the veal. But frustratingly also flanked by poorer quality food from the buffet. For example the veal had onion rings with it, that were clearly the cheapest frozen breaded onion flavoured rings available, which brought down the overall tone of an otherwise nice meal. The a la carte breakfast also disappointed as the Eggs Benedict was on a slightly toasted bland soggy white bread, and not an English muffin, or even some decent hand sliced bread. The hollandaise sauce was also very runny and flavourless. Reservations through the app meant you may lose the opportunity to sample some of the restaurants as they will be fully booked for the entire duration of your stay if you're not there for over a week.
The main buffet was mostly as expected, but certain items had clearly been left out too long, like the scrambled eggs which often ended up looking like rubber. The glassware also didn't seem very clean. I don't expect polished glass at a buffet, but there were often small bits on them.
Even more frustrating was on the last day we looked around for a checkout time. We couldn't find it in their Exclusi app. But found 12 midday clearly written on the slip the room keys came in. However upon returning to the room at 11:15 we found we were automatically locked out and had to go to reception in our swimwear to regain access so we could shower and change to leave.
We did get a free 20min massage for our troubles with the room on the first day. These take place in a tent near the beach. The staff there were nice and the massage was good, by dampened by the doors to the tent flapping against my feet...
Read moreWe visited Greece for the first time in June 2024 and stayed at the Eden Roc Resort Hotel.
There we 6 of us, and we booked a double room and a bungalow family room that sleeps 4, for my husband and our 2.5 year old twins.
Pro's for the Hotel:
Reception and guest relations cannot do enough for you. Any issues we had they sorted it straight away. The red haired receptionist was lovely. Eleni at guest relations managed to get us a booking at the Peruvian on our last night (our 2nd visit there) and we were really grateful. The food was amazing. Hotel is right on the beach with plenty of sunbeds available. On store shop is great, has everything you need. They have lilos which they inflate for you , which were great for using in the pool/sea. 3 pools, we used maybe once as spent most of the time in the sea. Clean, clear water and great views. We had the best food at the Peruvian (went twice) and the main restaurant has good food, with plenty of options especially for those with children. Seafood restaurant was nice - we had one bad experience the first time we used it when the kids fish fingers were cold inside. When the waiter didn't understand what I meant, I put my finger in it and said it was cold. He proceeded to do the same. New ones were brought out but they were just recooked as the finger holes were still there, so we didn't eat that. We visited a couple of times subsequently and it was great. They redeemed themselves. We enjoyed and cakes and ice creams from the patisserie. Good entertainment in the evening. However have to get seats early.
Cons for the hotel:
When we checked in and went to see our bungalow, we realised that it would not be suitable. The bed was big enough however the option for our twins was to sleep on the sofa and a pull out section underneath. This was not safe or feasible for them so we spoke to Reception and were able to get moved on the 2nd day. The boys slept with us as the beds are big. Although you get private pool access and bar for being in the bungalow area, it wasn't worth upgrading for and the other pools and bar areas are just as nice. We were then allocated a double room with a single bed in the main area of the hotel with a garden view. Still not doable but we managed with the twins sleeping with us. Given that we'd paid for a bungalow we essentially downgraded so we asked to be given a sea view room. We were then moved again on the 4th day (we were there for 10 days). The cleaner was poor. She "cleaned the room" everyday however the bed was never made, the floors were always left dirty and she never cleaned the bathroom. Cleaner trolleys were just left in the hallway, so we ended up helping ourselves to fresh towels. She also kept asking what time we were leaving on our last day, even when we had late checkout. Surely they should be aware of that? Did not rate the food at the grill, Mediterranean, Italian or Arun Asia. At the Grill food arrived cold, one table left as they were waiting over an hour for food. Italian - food was tasteless and overcooked. Arun Asia - Waiter was lovely but the food was mediocre. Mediterranean - when asked how the food was, we mentioned it was cold, the managers response was "but was the flavour good?" she didn't seem concerned that we weren't happy with the food. Plenty of bars, there is sometimes a wait and bottled water sometimes comes warm. Cocktails are ok but never made fresh, they're all syrup. The arcade area wasn't cleaned on one occasion. They have a drinks machine there with no-one manning it, so it seemed someone had filled up cups for fun and left mess everywhere that wasn't clean. There was a broken cup outside that no-one had cleaned and was dangerous.
Old town is a 20 minute or so drive from the hotel and the taxi fair is reasonable. Old town is lovely with plenty to eat and shop. Nothing around the hotel.
We had a nice stay but for me, the hotel is not a 5 star and I would have expected so much more from a 5 star hotel. I would say it's a 4...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for a week and as the other reviews have pointed out, I wouldn't class this as a 5 star hotel. There were just little points that dropped the standards. First was the cleanliness, contrary to other review, our rooms were cleaned every day, the people cleaning the rooms were lovely and did a good job. On arrival you're told that they don't refill your mini bar but they will replenish a two litre bottle of water every day, this was missed a couple of times but we just asked and they gave us some, you could also get bottles of water at any of the bars and there was filtered water stations on each floor. The general tidiness of the hotel is where it gets let down, you could see hand smudges on the elevator and discarded cups in the hallway which were left there all day. Throughout the day, it was rare to see anyone cleaning and the sofas in the main lobby are in need of a good vax.All the public bathrooms were spotless though and always had toilet roll. The elevators were absolutely shocking, on our first night we got trapped in the elevator which was then broken for the rest of the stay. They continuously got trapped on floors and you had to long press the buttons to get it moving. The food was absolutely amazing. The buffet was really great and had different food on every night. We went to the restaurant that's out of the hotel that the hotel pays for, the food was gorgeous and we were stuffed by the end of the meal. We also visited one al carte restaurant as we had a wedding mid trip and they had plenty of gluten free/ veg and vegan options. The food was so flavoursome. There was food available throughout the entire day and when you're drunk and need nibbles, there's food on till 2am. When we were looking on the app, it wasn't giving availability for the restaurants so we visited guest services who helped us book in. The service in the hotel is hit and miss, some of the staff were really friendly, some were miserable. Getting a coffee on a morning was like pulling teeth and table service at the buffet or the bar was non existent. In the entire trip we only had table service once, which isn't a Biggie but you just get a bit jealous of everyone else getting drinks delivered to them haha. The cocktails and general bar was absolutely amazing, there is such a wide selection and they will customise cocktails dependent on your taste. None of the alcohol is watered down compared to other hotels. Going to the bar on the beach was impossible though, if you need a drink you're just better off going to the bar inside. They have a refillable station on the beach which never had cups, you just ended up trying to get one from the bar to then go fill up yourself. The beer refill station on the beach was broken the entire time we were there which was disappointing. The private beach was great, never failed to find sun beds. We didn't tend to sit round the pool because there was always a foul odour lingering and with both pools being salt water pools, it was just easier to swim in the sea. Decor throughout the entire hotel was gorgeous, the rooms were adequate. Noise levels were fine for us, I'm a light sleeper and we had a sea view room but our room looked over the bar, it was noisy until about 11pm which is when the entertainment finished and then it quitened down. We don't have kids but there seemed to be loads to do for kids including an arcade with a pool table. All in all, it was a good holiday, we enjoyed it and there wasn't really anything massive to complain about, just small things that drops the over all...
