We are writing to express our disappointment, firstly, with the quality of the food that was served during our recent stay at The Katia Apt & Hotel Rhodes. As paying guests on half board, we expected to enjoy delicious meals that would enhance our holiday experience, but unfortunately, this was not the case. The breakfast buffet was particularly disappointing. The food was bland and lacked variety. The eggs were over cooked, and the bacon was dry and tasteless. The fruit selection was limited and some of it was not fresh. We found insects on the bread and pastries which was very unappetizing.
The situation was not much better at dinner. The menu was limited and repetitive, and the quality of the food was poor. The vegetables were overcooked and mushy, the meat was tough and over seasoned, and the desserts were stale and lacked flavour. Additionally, the service was slow, and the staff did not seem to be attentive to the needs of the guests. As guests who paid a premium price for our stay, we expect to receive quality service and food. Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel did not meet our expectations. As a result of this we continued to eat away from the hotel for all our meals. After complaining to TUI through the TUI app at the time, we felt we were being brushed off as being fussy and blaming our own taste. We witnessed most other guests only using the dining area once and choosing to provide for themselves afterwards.
We would also like to express our deep dissatisfaction with the way we were treated during our stay by the owners. We arrived at their establishment with high hopes of enjoying a comfortable and pleasant holiday, but we were left feeling violated and intimidated. We had dead flies not cleaned every day and a small colony of ants living with us. After mentioning it we were told to be cleaner so the ants wouldn’t be there.
On the last day of our stay, we were accused of causing damage to the hotel room that we did not make. When we denied any wrongdoing, they became aggressive and threatened to call the police so we couldn’t fly home, if we did not pay €50 for the supposed damages. Fortunately, TUI asked us to pay, and they would reimburse us. We were made to feel like criminals, and it was an extremely distressing experience for us both.
The way we were treated was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. The owner was confrontational and aggressive, and we felt intimidated and powerless. We were coerced into paying for damages that we did not cause, and it was an unfair and unjust situation.
As paying guests, we expect to be treated with respect and dignity, and this was not the case during our stay at their hotel.
Edit. After a investigation by TUI we have been complimented with rather a large compensation cheque to go towards our next holiday....
Read moreThis hotel was a good choice for a budget stay in Rhodes. We stayed in May '23, booked through TUI. The service at the hotel was very good. We had the same people serving us all week, and they were very attentive and welcoming the whole time. The food and drink choices were good, as were the prices. There's a shop next door I'd highly recommend. It had everything we needed. The owner was very friendly. There's also supermarkets a very short walk, which was handy. The walk to the main area of bars, restaurants, and the beach, isn't too bad. And a taxi ride to the town is quick. So the location is pretty good. I can't give it 5 stars because the room was basic, and a bit lacking. The pool towels weren't very good, so would suggest bringing your own. For self catering, I would expect a bit more in the kitchen area. Couldn't really cook anything, but it was fine for making a coffee and a sandwich. Bed and bedding were adequate. Bathroom was good. The room and hotel was kept very clean. We liked the bar/restaurant area. But didn't feel like the pool area was comfortable and inviting enough to spend a lot of time at. We had a balcony room, but looked like the ground floor rooms were better to stay in. I just feel they could provide slightly more, and slightly higher quality, without increasing prices. On one hand, I understand it's a family run place, but because I booked through TUI, I expected slightly better accommodation and amenities. Hence 4 stars, instead of 5.
There's a lot of choice in Rhodes - this is definitely worth staying at if you don't have the budget for a...
