I do not often review hotels that we have stayed in, but as the reviews for the Mitsis Rodos Village are so polarised, I thought I would add our experience of staying at this at this resort as a couple travelling without children.|We stayed from the 2nd of September to 13th September 2025 in one of the superior sea view double room with private pool (room 601).||First Impressions|The drive into Kiotari still shows evidence of the wildfire that engulfed some of the village back in 2023 and the charred trees in the surrounding areas certainly serve as a reminder to the fragility of the Greek countryside during the summer extreme heat conditions that prevail these days.|The Mitsis Rodos Village hotel rises up above the village in impressive style, demanding a commanding position, and our arrival at the reception area painted a picture of a high quality hotel, with an imposing exterior and plenty of modern seating once inside the hotel.|We arrived at around 1:45p.m., and our check in process was very pleasant and simple with the receptionist, and we were provided with a cooling glass of lemonade as we ran through the check-in process.|It is worth noting that there is a 15 euro per night tourist tax payable on the room, so 165 euros for our 11 night stay.|Our room was not going to be ready until around 2:30p.m., so we were shown to the night bar where we passed time with a cocktail or two and admired the wonderful view down to the Aegean Sea.|Once our room was ready, we were escorted outside to one the golf buggies and driven up the hill to our room by one of the golf buggy team, and our cases taken to our room for us where we were given a quick introduction to our room.||The Room|The superior sea view private pool room was one of the highlights of our stay, with modern décor, plenty of storage space in the wardrobe (which had a full length mirror on the inside of the door), and a good sized bathroom and walk in shower.|The mood lighting was good when chilling in the room, and the sofa and super king sized bed incredibly comfortable,|The was a regularly stocked mini bar (water, soft drinks, local beer, and white wine), coffee machine, kettle, and a nice little touch of a bottle of Raki which was also regularly replaced.|The TV has Netflix, and you can mirror/cast anything other streaming apps from your phone or tablet if you dig into the main menu. English channels are absence other than world service news offerings.|The air conditioning was effective and there was a ceiling fan to further aid cool air circulation.|Moving outside, the patio was private with nice seating and a clothes airer, and the patio led to the fresh water infinity style pool and Bali style rounded day bed which was perfect for chilled days sunbathing at the room, which received full sun all day long. |The only point I would add is that the pools could have been made more private by low level screening between the pools.|The pool was on the cold side but refreshing against the 35 degree heat that prevailed during our stay there, and the pool was cleaned regularly.|It is also worth noting that our room was 2 minutes’ walk from the higher level pools and pool bar, and drinks could be brought back to the room if you did not fancy competing for sunbed spaces.|Finally, our cleaner Mika was an absolute treasure during our stay and went above and beyond to ensure our stay in the room was optimised. She certainly added value to our experience, and we rewarded her handsomely upon leaving due to her devotion to ensuring that we were happy. |Thank you again Mika, you are an absolute star and a credit to Mitsis!||The Pools|There are 3 main pool areas on 3 hotel levels, together with a splash park for the younger guests on the highest level, with all pools open between 10:00a.m. and 6:00p.m.|We only visited the higher level infinity and family pools opposite the pool bar and burger/Greek/Italian a la carte restaurants during our stay, due to the distance (and incline) down to the main pool.|There is no day time entertainment programme at the higher level pools, and music was elevator style in nature.|Pools are freshwater, clean, and perfect to cool down on a hot sunny day without being overly busy.|There a few Bali beds on offer around the family pool, but you need to be up with the sunrise to secure one, which we were lucky enough to do one day.|There has been a lot of talk on the reviews about the lack of sunbeds versus number of guests, and this is true. There were a number of disappointed people walking about with towels after 10:00a.m. looking for beds but unable to secure one. I think this is because the hotel has expanded from its original footprint (look at the contrast between the main pool building style and the higher level style), and whilst the pools and sunbeds on offer at the time were probably sufficient, the number of guests has now exceeded the available areas to locate sunbeds around the pools, as they are generally quite tightly packed. |We were happy to stay at our room pool and sunbathe or read there throughout the day with our own music, so was not an issue for us, but I understand how frustrating this could be for other guests who did not have this luxury.|Personally, I would remove the seldomly used kids play area near the splash park and build another pool area there which would take pressure off the pool/sunbed situation.|For smokers, please note you cannot smoke around the pools, and you need to move to a different area away from the pools.||The Beach|The beach is across the road from the hotel with a footbridge over the main road to take you there. There are around 70-80 steps to manage enroute, and for the less mobile, this would be a challenge on the return to the hotel I feel as it is all uphill, however there is a shuttle bus available that we did not use or see in use.|The private beach area is sandy, but with a ten metre course sand/shingle area to the water’s edge and is not challenging to walk on with sliders on. Do not try without footwear though, as the sand is incredibly hot underfoot. You also sink into the shingle as you get into the water, which can be interesting.|There are plenty of sunbeds and fixed parasols, and bear in mind that both sides of the beach area can be used as they are both Mitsis hotels there.|Similarly, both beach bars can be used, and there is food at the furthest pool bar to the hotel that offers hot dogs in toasted bread rolls. In between is the celebrated pizza shack that offers various flavoured slices to both hotels, a decent enough snack for throughout the day.|Sunbeds were of an inferior quality for a five star hotel, and tended to fold back over as you lay down on them, as if they have been overly tensioned, but you got used to it eventually|There is also a water sports business there, but we found prices to be high in comparison to other Greek islands, a narrative that is common in Rhodes overall.|The sea water is clean, clear, calm, and with the southerly aspect of Kiotari beach bringing warm currents, it felt bath like warm on some days.|Regarding the beach bars, we preferred the furthest bar from our hotel, as they mixed cocktails using a shaker and the drinks were to a higher standard and quality from this bar. The other bar was fine for beer and spirit/mixer drinks/Aperol Spritz.|There was also some entertainment on the beach with Boules, archery, and Beach Volleyball on offer to the more energetic.||Food/Restaurants|The main buffet is sizeable, nicely decorated, with seating both inside and outside and is located next to reception.|We never ate breakfast at the main buffet, so cannot review this, but we did eat lunch and dinner in the main buffet on several occasions, and our experience was generally good, with enough food choice to satisfy all tastes, and a fabulous selection of desserts, fruit, and ice creams. |There were always plenty of tables available when we arrived, and there was none of the school canteen style environment that others have talked about. Maybe September offers a different vibe to the main school holiday period, and we found staff in the main buffet to be friendly, attentive, and always greeted you warmly in and out of the restaurant.|Regarding the a la carte restaurants, and as described by others, it is important to download the Mitsis app a couple of months before you are arriving to secure your bookings for the a la carte restaurants. We made all of our bookings in July and got confirmations from Triparound, which is all you need – it will not appear in the app. |As we were staying longer than 1 week, we were able to book into each restaurant twice, and we also booked the brunch and burger restaurants.|On the whole, our experiences in the a la carte restaurants were satisfactory, especially so in the Burger/Brunch/Greek/Italian areas, with our preference being Italian overall, simply due to choice and non-recurring dishes on each visit.|We did have varying experiences in the Tex Mex/Asian restaurants, with long waits to get seated, and then even longer worse waits to get menus, wine, and water (around 45 minutes in the Asian restaurant). |Staff work incredibly hard in these restaurants, but there feels like there is an operational issue that not enough staff are allocated to these areas and too many into the main buffet. The result, too few staff struggling to clear and re-set tables in a timely manner, deal with incoming guests, and then be attentive to guests they have just seated. The maître d in the Asian restaurant was particularly stressed the night we attended because of this.|It should also be noted that unlike other a la carte offerings in these types of hotels, wine is not presented as a menu, and you are unable to ask for a bottle. You simply get offered a glass of wine, rose, or red house wine, which is disappointing.|We did try the creperie which was nice enough but never ventured over to the Souvlaki restaurant and did not try the toasties as they ran out very fairly quickly, other guests told us.|There were no other self-serve snack offers at the Mitsis Rodos Village like other hotels we have stayed at, and it feels like there should be something like another pizza/snack station at the main hotel, where you can take away back to your sunbed or room as you choose. Everything is restricted to the dedicated restaurant areas as sit down options, other than at the beach.||Bars|There is a good choice of bars around the hotel, depending on where you are and what you want to do.|The pool/beach bars offer a limited cocktail range and differing quality depending on who is serving or the bar you choose, but overall they are OK and there were acceptable queues, but no sunbed service like other hotels which again is a little disappointing for 5 star service.|The day and night bars are where the best quality and variety of drinks and cocktails are available, and we tended to migrate to these.|Our preference was the day bar, because of the outside courtyard area and good table service, together with great bar staff who look out for you once they know your drinks preference. We played many a game of Uno there with a well-earned cocktail at the end of a hard of sunbathing!|Similarly, the night bar was also good with better quality cocktails and friendly staff (Soni in particular), but with limited seating outside due to it being the only main building venue with music, it was more difficult to find a seat and admire the sea views as you listened to the bands/singers. We also found table service was poor here and resulted in long queues at the bar itself as people gave up waiting.|Room Service|We tried this once for breakfast as a “treat” but to be honest, it was awful, the worst food experience we had on the holiday. |Food was missing and/or cold, and simple things like orange juice were overlooked. As an example, my partner asked for boiled eggs on toast as per the room service menu, and instead got 4 boiled eggs in their shells, and 1 slice of untoasted bread. |For a 10 euro supplement, this really let the hotel down and for what should have been a great treat, it was a massive disappointment that cost us additional money for the privilege of eating poorly.||Entertainment |There is some entertainment, mostly centred around the main pool, amphitheatre, and night bar.|Pool activities/entertainment – cannot comment as we did not go down there throughout the day.|At the amphitheatre, there is a mini disco for the kids, followed a rigid weekly rotation of family entertainment at 10:00p.m., including Greek dancing and music, a hip hop act, fire eating, and an entertainers show, so you end up seeing the same show more than once if you are a regular. The amphitheatre does have a bar serving similar cocktails and drinks to the pool bars. |The night bar has a selection of bands/singers, although this was not every night from memory.|There is also the firework display on the beach on a Thursday night – the fireworks last for about 3 minutes, so decide carefully if you are on the upper levels of the hotel, as it’s a long walk and you can see the fireworks from all areas of the hotel in any event – watch from the night bar is my recommendation.||Staff Attitude|Our experience was that most staff were pleasant and friendly, and some went above and beyond to make sure you had a great stay, particularly the cleaning, bar, and Greek/Italian restaurant staff. |There were some exceptions though, the mini market staff were miserable and disinterested in serving you, preferring to sit on their mobile phones instead. They also would randomly close without an indication on the door as to when they would be back. This is really poor service.|We also had mixed interactions with reception staff throughout our stay. As an example, when our water supply to the room went off for some time, I rang reception only to be dismissed very quickly with no indication as to when the issue would be resolved. |The golf buggy drivers were also a mixed bag.||Other things to note|You are going to be walking uphill most of the time. This is most pertinent to those with multiple children in buggies, who trekked up to the splash park or amphitheatre daily. There are lifts but these are level by level and there are still plenty of uphill areas to navigate in between – not great in 35 degree heat|Lack of an adults only area. This is accommodated in most family hotels that are 5 star – think Barcelo for example - but sadly lacking here.|Lack of pool side bar (alcohol) service is poor for a 5 star hotel – use the glass collectors more effectively and ease the queues at the bars. ||Local Area - Kiotari|There is not a great deal to do in the local area, other than travelling to Lindos or further afield via bus, taxi, or car if you are brave enough.|Local shops, bars, and restaurants are limited, and the super markets/gift shops are expensive.|We did find some gems though as we walked about Kiotari. |Blue Dreams bar has decent cocktails and shows all the football, so that was a treat (for me).|Gre Café was exceptional for brunch with great staff and excellent quality food and drinks at a value for money price – the smoothie was fabulous I am told. |Mosa Beach Bar was also a good venue for brunch with nice mimosas and a stunning sea view.|Mourella is our recommendation for dinner. The owner (Chris)Tina is passionate about her business and the food she serves, and the meal we had there was the best of the holiday.|I would also like to applaud the Summer Breeze Cruises boat tour of Lindos Bay, St. Pauls Bay, and Navarone Bay (see GetYourGuide). Michael and the team were great hosts, offered drinks and cocktails, and the hotel pick up and drop off by Michael himself made the afternoon perfect and stress free.|Please support these local businesses, as they are all worthy of a visit whilst you are in Kiotari, and make a change from the hotel entertainment, food, and drink.||Overall|There is a lot to recommend about this hotel, and with further investment into facilities and operational improvements, it could be exceptional. We enjoyed our time at the hotel and we would stay at the Mitsis chain...
Read moreI do not have anything against this business but each of the below was indeed a fact in our own experience, which might help you make your mind up on whether this a 5 star hotel or not.
The good Airport transfer included if you can manage to get them to book it, which took us at least 3 emails to chase them up on that Nikos the shift lead at reception was helpful when we flagged a sofa bed which was hurtful to sleep on and sorted it out The splash park for kids located at the top of the development is very fun for kids
The bad Hate the smell of smoke? You will smell it here as apparently Greek regulations are softer (compared to UK) Planning to get breakfast at 9 given that pools open at 10? Prepare for a queue to get inside the buffet, even in May. Want coffee? 3 automatic machines, 2 of which ran out of milk, prepare to queue 5 minutes for mediocre coffee. The shift leader that checked us in said “something happened” with the booking system, so our first night was spent squeezing our two infants into a smaller room TV turned on by itself twice at max volume terrifying the kids. Changed room, had a TV that was always at max volume when turned on. We made it known but nothing was done about it Two rooms, two loose wobbly toilet seats, a bedside lamp that doesn’t work, no reading light options Cleaner did not notice we ran out of soap. While trying to ring reception to request it nobody picks up Food quality. Iberostar costs less and their food is on another planet compared to Mitsis. If the food quality is your focus, from my experience this is the wrong hotel. The buffet and each of the 5 restaurants we tried left us saying “it was ok”, quality is not high, and we are not used to Michelin stars establishments at home either. You will be looking at the local map for nearby restaurants after a few nights. If you are vegetarian you are going to have a bad time The food (service). You might order drinks at the buffet and never see them, at the restaurants you may be served your dessert before your main, you may order a mojito made undrinkable by the lack of sugar, or a simple cup of lemon ice cream that is so bad nobody in the family liked it The service (receptionists). A train for kids stops just outside the hotel. Two receptionists next to each other refused to give out any information about it because it was not part of the hotel. On the following morning we asked a shift lead lady (Ismai) and she was helpful, so be careful who you speak to Let’s go see the beach. No towels at the beach, staff at the beach said they are given at the main pool, fair enough. At the main pool there was no staff and no towels. It turns out they are in your room. You know the main wardrobe at the top where the bath robes and slippers are kept? They are there. A case might be made that we didn’t see them but 1: nobody tells you and 2: the staff down at the beach gave me the wrong info You see porters driving electric caddies up and down the steep hotel streets all the time, but will rarely stop to offer you a ride if you have a pushchair (buggy, pram, however you call it) Do not disturb notice at the door was not honored by cleaning staff multiple times No ironing board option Want to book the reservation-only restaurants? You can use the app (but you cannot book the same restaurant twice), or you can take time off of your morning to go to the main restaurant and do it there, which we did but we received no follow-up email of any sort, resulting in us giving up Wrong location info on their emails. We booked the brunch restaurant, we go there and it’s closed, turns out it’s on another part of the hotel. The young lady receptionist was not able to understand our frustration with it (again, moving around the hotel with a pram is not easy) At the beach we were approached by a woman in the hotel’s uniform. When our lack of interest in her activities had been made politely known we were confronted with the most self-absorbed person who clearly has no idea what working in...
Read moreI am writing this review regarding my current stay at Mitsis with my family from 15 to 22 August. We were two adults and two children aged 9 and 3. We selected this hotel based on the images and descriptions provided on both the Mitsis Rodos Village website and our tour operator’s site. Unfortunately, our experience has been consistently below expectations, with several issues outlined below.
Room allocation • The room provided on late arrival at night did not match the advertised images which only showed refurbished rooms. • The bathroom was old in style and appearance, with mould clearly visible along the bath. This presented a health concern, particularly as our 3-year-old was touching the area. This was cleaned as a cover up job after I raised it with the hotel.
Response from front desk • When concerns were raised, staff on the front desk were dismissive and instructed us to take the matter up with the booking company, claiming it was not their responsibility. • The tone was confrontational rather than helpful, which was unexpected from a hotel of this reputation.
Iron and ironing facilities • No iron or ironing board was provided in the room. We were informed this is a paid service, which was not clear on the website, although it is stated. Even the front desk took time to find the information on their website. I genuinely wouldn’t have booked this hotel had I known that in advance. • Despite seeing housekeeping staff with an iron, which was owned by the hotel, and asking them to deliver one to our room, our repeated requests for access to one were refused by the front desk.
Nespresso machine request • I had requested a Nespresso machine via email with the General Manager before our visit and was assured this would be in the room on arrival. It wasn’t! • It was not provided and only delivered on day two.
Availability of bottled water • Bottled water is only available in à la carte restaurants and not at bars anywhere in the hotel or beach • When visiting the à la carte restaurants with our children, we were refused water because we were told this is only provided for guest with reservations at the restaurant. We had the same issue at the hotel bar on the beach. You have to bear in mind this is an all inclusive hotel.
Stroller request • Prior to arrival, I was advised to request a stroller at the front desk, which I did. • Despite further requests 48 hours in advance of outings, I was told no strollers were available and they have no way of knowing where the strollers were and when they would be returned.
Cooler bags • The hotel advertised cooler bags for days out. When requested, we were told to ask at the restaurant for one. • Staff then advised no cooler bags were available and provided only a paper bag to fill ourselves.
Dining and bar service • Vegetarian options in à la carte restaurants were very limited. Staff showed little flexibility in adapting dishes to guest requests. • At the bars, I was told Bacardi was not stocked, yet (today) on 20 August it was readily available in multiple bars without issue.
Overall experience • We consistently received conflicting information from staff, which appeared to vary depending on convenience rather than guest service. • The lack of consistency, unwillingness to resolve reasonable requests, and misrepresentation of facilities fell significantly short of the standards expected from a premium hotel. • Other guests we spoke with reported similar experiences. I can provide further details if required.
Given the premium price paid for this stay, the overall standard is unacceptable. I would like this review acknowledged so that others staying at this hotel do not experience the...
