10 years ago my partner and I were tired of driving of camping round Europe. I'd drive maybe 1200 miles and getting older this began to become a "no holiday" ........we decided to try different Mediterranean islands - Malta, Northern Cyprus, quieter spots on Mallorca.||Then Jane spotted an advert in THe Telegraph for a catalogue / brochure produced by a firm called Laskarina. We sent for it and loved it - small islands in the Hellanic Archipeligo. We settled for one in the deep southern Dodecenese called Tilos.||Tilos and some of the other little islands had been sensitively developed by the husband and wife team who ran Laskarina, the Elliots and catered for peace loving mature travellers.||Disappointingly after two years Mrs E died and Mr E decided not to carry on. The local reps took over the island side and one of the reps Meni who had her own agency on Rodos arranged all connections post arrival in Greece.||Various reps held the unofficial franchise for Tilos, under different trading names, now Nissia.||They have continued to be superbly helpful - Ian Hogg, resident on the island is a great support, and Meni sorts out all travel post arrival at Rodos.||There had to be a "but" coming, didn't there ........and it's this. There needs to be more quality control over furnishings and cutlery, crockery, bathroom deterioration. The studios are showing signs of wear and tear, and the family is hard pressed to keep up with everything (they own two other blocks on the island - Panorama and Olympus). Stelios Chrsafis and and his wife Katrina are both over 60, and most of the hard work is done by their son, Effimios.||They've had to work doubly hard since Laskarina packed up -- from being 100% booked through the one agent with virtually all UK clientele they now have to meet every sailing (that's 12 per week), and deal with bookers in many countries.||Everything else is beautiful - I've always moved my bed out onto the balcony, with only the sea, stars, moon and sunrise for company .......||So I hope the work is done this winter to raise the standards back in the studios, but if you've only just found the island, you'll...
Read moreWent here with my wife for a relaxing two week stay and everything about the apartments, their situation, Tilos in general exceeded all expectations. We were in no. 9 and the view from the balcony looking out into the bay was to die for. The staff couldn't do enough in making our stay so pleasurable and the cleaning service was, again, exceptional - not at all what we were used to with a self catering apartment (in fact we have had worse in 4 star hotels).||I don't want to rave too much though as we would like to return and, being selfish, do not want the place to become too popular as the whole charm about Tilos is its laid-back, quiet do nothing...
Read moreThis is our tenth year at Livadia Beach Apartments, suffice to say we love it. Stelios, Katina & Efthemio could not be more welcoming or helpful. The ambience of the place and its fabulous water-front location attract year-after-year visitors like us from UK, Norway, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey and more. The atmosphere is so friendly and laid back it feel like an international social club. And they have the best 'infinity pool' on the doorstep :)||||Am sitting on the each as I type, thinking about our plans for coming...
