We arrived for our second visit to a warm welcome from Meropi, Christos, George and Rania. We had booked a year before our stay with Jet2 holidays, but due to an error with the listing on the Jet2 website Jet2 tried to move us to another property - we really weren't happy with that. To be fair Jet2 were very good and I have no issues with them, i emailed Meropi and thankfully we could have a room in the annexe on a direct booking basis - the family really do their best to help you, and we were so grateful.|The annexe is up a path of no more than 50 metres, it is lit all the way and being 63 and 69, we had no problems. There is a barn close by and in 10 nights we didn't see one rat ( a recent review mentioned multiple times that there probably are rats there, that review bore no resemblance to actually staying there). In June 2024 we stayed in the main building in one of the newly refurbished rooms which were lovely, the annexe room was not refurbished but it was larger with gorgeous views, we had a lovely stay.|Ourania is in a really gorgeous location with rural and mountain views, it is so peaceful and you do see lots of birds and other wildlife at times - we really enjoy that element. It has a really good sized pool which is kept very clean, there are plenty of sunbeds- looked like a fair few new ones this year as well.|The onsite Taverna is excellent (and very reasonable) and we lunch there most days often sharing one of Christos's gorgeous club sandwiches with home made chips. We had around half our evening food there as well, it's such a lovely location to sit on an evening and Christos is such a fab chef - the Beef Stifado special was absolutely superb 😋 |We did head down to the village on a couple of evenings (a nice 10 minute or so stroll), and to Molyvos which is wonderful, but we had our best evenings at Ourania - some great company this year! |Cleaning is very good for self catering in our view, bins emptied all but one day of our stay, towels changed 3 times and sheets once. |We booked our next visit to Ourania for later this year the day after we got home, it is our favourite holiday and we can't wait to go back. |Thank you so much Meropi, Christos, George and Rania for looking after us so well, we will see you...
Read moreDidn't stay, went to see it for a future stay and found the staff positively awful. Whistling and gesticulating to me to come over to them, fat greek man sat on a seat in the lovely looking dining/bar area, felt like I was a dog being called to heel, instead of the usual warm Greek greetings that I'm used to receiving...and this was after I greeted him politely in greek. I looked up the reviews for this hotel and spoke to a few residents, some who've gone their for some years, who said they were used to their behaviour. It made me feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable and though the place looked lovely I wouldn't want to stay. I also looked at the reviews and it appears that unless you spend spend spend in their taverna (which I believe is good in all fairness, when it's manned), they can be very rude and discourteous, don't handle criticism well, or reports of issues with rooms, WiFi connectivity in some rooms, requests for alternative room...a number reported a simple NO to requests, very abrupt and obstructive behaviour, enough said for me to stay well clear. Which is a shame as it has massive potential, I'd suggest to the family owners that they need to go on a hospitality training course, they may well find there takings vastly improved with the right attitude...along with cleaning the rooms properly and more regularly...
Read moreThe studios are basic but clean and reasonably maintained for the price. Sheets and towels were changed regularly, and the beaches are just a short walk away—Petra itself is beautiful and well worth visiting.||Unfortunately, the owner’s behaviour made our stay uncomfortable. He aggressively confronted us over a balcony light being left on—a genuine mistake that was quickly corrected, yet he continued to rant even as I turned it off.||More concerning was the disappearance of our air conditioning remote the night before departure. That same evening the owner appeared ranted and again visibly angry demanding air con/local tax payment and oddly asked about the remote. When I went to pay, he insisted on cash (over €150), which I declined, opting to pay mostly by card.||I had a hunch he had taken the remote! Only after I asked directly to have it back, was the remote returned—he had taken it from our room while we were out, claiming it was for “payment.” Had I not asked, it likely wouldn’t have been returned. Perhaps, even being presented with a lost remote bill!||Petra is wonderful, but the owner’s conduct was invasive and aggressive. I wouldn’t recommend these studios unless serious changes are made. If you are a woman/women travelling alone I would definitely suggest you do...
