Hotel Elvetia — Hotel in Thassos Municipality

Unfortunately this is not a proper hotel. There are major issues with the rooms as well as safety and security concerns. The owners lack hospitality and understanding and they only care for their seasonal money grab. By all means do yourself a favor and choose something proper.

Here is a breakdown of what took place.... (point 2 is the security and it is a must read!!!)

There is no front-desk, not sure how this is labelled as a hotel... During check-in we had to call and wait for someone to come and open the room for us. Supposedly, the guy said that the keys should have been on the door but they weren't. When he asked his wife in the background, we could hear her screaming from the phone saying that "what should I do, the key is there, they should be able to find the room". After 10-15mins a lady appeared there and opened the room for us.

As soon as the lady arrived to check us in, she walked in and opened a cabinet that they have at the hall, where everyone has access even random people as they can simply walk in, and took a MASTER KEY to unlock our room. She then gave us the keys that were relevant to our room and placed the master key in the hall cabinet (photo attached) and left. As soon as I noticed this, I went to the cabinet, and look for that key that had a label (passe-partout, which means master key in French) (photos attached) Our room had 3 doors and each door had a separate key, there were another 4 rooms at the same floor. I took the master key and verified that it could open all of our 3 doors, and left it back to its original location. It could probably unlock all the doors on the floor given it was a master key but we didnt verify that. Imagine leaving the room and having a master key that could unlock any room so anybody can grab your things or even come in your room at night.... This is totally unacceptable and shows the level of seriousness of this place!!!

The rooms are not well-maintented. The room we were given had a very bad odor to the point it was unbearable. It was also commented by the lady that checked us in. We opened the windows as suggested but the odor was not going away. The owner said that it was the first time that this was happening but judging from previous reviews, it was clearly not. I immediately sent a message via booking.com and called him on his phone to address this issue. He said that he will send the cleaning crew over as we were away for lunch, but as soon as we came back the odor was still there and nothing changed.

Further issues (photos attached). The electricity sockets are from the the 80s, there are very few around the room and each of them sparks every time you connect something to it or is broken. Also some are not properly mounted on the wall and you can see the electricity cables or touch them...especially if you have chrildren. I highly doubt that this place has a residual-current circuit breaker in place so be extremely careful. All the shower heads are broken and leak water from everywhere, you can barely wash properly. Keep in mind that there is no shampoo and their mattresses are also very very old and many of their springs are broken.

During the evening and once we came back, the odor was still present..so I called the owner. He blamed the previous guests.... He also told us we are lucky to have a room as the island is fully booked.. The audacity..... I requested via the phone to meet with him in the morning during our checkout. We barely slept that night and it was unpleasant.

Coming morning, I called the owner he told me that he couldn't come there as he is far far away I told him that they didn't fix any issues and we had a very bad experience and this is unacceptable. He then passed the phone to his eager to talk wife, she said that we slept in the room and the odor only affected the room's hall according to the cleaning crew so it was ok. As soon as I told her that we had to pay full price for this experience and asked how they plan on taking care of this incident, she told me that they did all they could and...

This property is falsely advertised as a hotel but lacks the most basic standards of safety, service, and cleanliness. There is no front desk, and check-in involved waiting for someone to show up after a chaotic phone exchange. The most alarming issue was the unsecured storage of a master key (labeled “passe-partout”) in a publicly accessible cabinet, allowing anyone to potentially access all rooms, raising major security concerns.||The room itself had a strong, persistent odor, broken sockets with exposed wiring, outdated and unsafe electrical fittings, damaged shower heads, and poor-quality bedding. Despite reporting these issues, the owners provided minimal assistance and even became confrontational when asked for accountability. Attempts to arrange a discussion in person were ignored, and any complaint was dismissed as “blackmail.”||This experience reflects a lack of professionalism, safety, and hospitality. Πρώτα από όλα ας ξεκινήσουμε οτι άλλη τοποθεσία φαίνεται απο τη booking και όταν φτάσεις εκεί ψάχνεις να βρεις το ξενοδοχείο στις ανηφόρες… αφού ξεπεράσαμε το πρώτο εμπόδιο και φτάσαμε στο ξενοδοχείο δεν υπήρχε κανείς εκεί για να μας υποδεχτεί, πήραμε ένα μήνυμα οτι το κλείδι θα είναι επάνω στη πόρτα χωρίς καν να ξέρουμε τον αριθμό της πόρτας… για λίγο νιώσαμε οτι είμαστε σε κάποιο escape room και αφού δεν βρήκαμε το γρίφο αλλά ούτε και το κλειδί πήραμε τηλέφωνο τον ιδιοκτήτη ό οποίος φάνηκε στην αρχή ευγενικός και ρώτησε τη γυναίκα του τι συμβαίνει με το κλειδί μας είπε θα το λύσει… μετά από λίγη ώρα εμφανίστηκε μια κυρία η οποία έψαξε το κλειδί και τελικά άνοιξε ένα συρτάρι ξεκλείδωτο γεμάτο κλειδιά, πήρε ένα που έγραφε πασπαρτού (και μάλλον άνοιγε όλες τις πόρτες) και ήταν έτσι εκτεθειμένο σε όποιον ήθελε είτε ένοικο είτε περαστικό (αφού δεν υπήρχε και κανείς να προσέχει) και άνοιξε τη πόρτα που έβγαζε σε ενα χολ-κουζίνα και δεξιά και αριστερά τα δωμάτια μας και ακούμε την ίδια τη κυρία να λέει ουφ πως μυρίζει έτσι; Μάλλον δεν αέρισαν είπε και άνοιξε τις πόρτες….. μακάρι η ιστορία όλη μα τελείωνε εκεί αλλα δυστυχώς στις 2 μέρες που μείναμε εκεί μύριζε απίστευτα άσχημα ένας συνδυασμός μούχλας-πεθαμένου ποντικού και η μυρωδιά δεν έφευγε με τίποτα! Το να μείνεις εκεί και να κοιμηθείς ήταν ένα βασανιστήριο… Αφού πήραμε τον ιδιοκτήτη τον είπαμε πως πάμε για φαγητό καθως ήταν 4 το μεσημέρι και του είπαμε να λυσει το πρόβλημα μέχρι να επιστρέψουμε… ο άνθρωπος ήταν δεκτικός και είπε θα στείλει τη καθαρίστρια ωστόσο όταν επιστρέψαμε η μυρωδιά ήταν εκεί και γινόταν εντονότερη… τον ξαναπήραμε τηλέφωνο και μας είπε οτι αυτό είναι και δεν μπορεί να κάνει κάτι και άρχισε να γίνεται πιο επιθετικός πλέον στο τηλέφωνο…. Του είπαμε οτι αυτο το πράμα δεν παλευέται και οτι είναι δικό του θέμα να το λύσει και τον είπαμε να περάσει το πρωί στο τσεκ αουτ να μιλήσουμε… εκτός ότι δεν ήρθε ποτέ όταν τον πήραμε τηλέφωνο το πρωί πριν το τσεκ αουτ ήταν έξαλλος μας είπε ότι είναι μακρία και άρπαξε το τηλέφωνο του η γυναίκα του και άρχισε να φωνάζει ότι έκαναν ότι μπορούσαν δηλαδή τίποτα και οτί την εκβίαζουμε! Ανέβηκαν οι τόνοι και της το κλείσαμε στα μούτρα λέγοντας πως θα απευθυνθούμε στη booking και στις κριτικές για αυτό το έκτρωμα που λένε ξενοδοχείο και δεν ντρέπονται! Ο μόνος λόγος που αφήνω εδώ όλο αυτό το κατεβατό είναι για να γλιτώσουν οι επόμενοι αφού ο ιδιοκτήτης δεν φαίνεται διατεθειμένος να αλλάξει αυτή τη κατάσταση…. Ειναί περιττό να αναφέρω τα σπασμένα τηλέφωνα του μπάνιου καθως και τις ξηλωμένες σπασμένες και επικίνδυνες μπρίζες (μην τυχόν και πάει κάποιος εκεί με παιδί) και αμφιβάλλω αν υπάρχει και αντιηλεκτροπληξιακ… Δεν θα τα ανέφερα καν τα τελευταία αν όλα τα υπόλοιπα ήταν κάλα (εκτεθείμενα κλειδιά για οποιονδήποτε επιθυμεί να μπουκάρει στα δωμάτια και την απίστευτη και άσχημη μυρωδιά που μακάρι να μπορούσε να αποτυπωθεί σε φώτο)….
