We last visited Alikanas 6 years ago, The Elpida was always a buzzing hotel with a busy bar & supermarket attached.||We’re not sure what happened but guess it was the effect of Covid and now the hotel is sadly lacking, no bar, no supermarket, very few people around the pool. ||The place is very tired and in need of a complete makeover and it is very sad to see. ||The room was adequate but again very tired. The shower rail was a piece of plumbing pipe, the taps were old and tarnished. The beds were hard and uncomfortable and because we had a room for three our daughter had a put me up bed which she described as sleeping on a slab of concrete, my husband ended up sleeping on it for two nights and padding it out with blankets, to give our daughter the chance of a better nights sleep. A total of two sockets in the room. No hairdryer in the room although we asked at reception and we were given a hairdryer which unfortunately only ran on one temperature- cold! The fridge door wouldn’t stay shut, the kettle didn’t auto switch off (it was supposed to) The key to the safety box was attached to room key fob so had to disconnect from the electric to open it, so no lights as the electric cut off immediately the fob was removed.||The balcony was small and had some strange netting randomly wired to the balcony, we guessed this was some kind of safety feature but aesthetically it was awful. The apartments really needed some TLC.||The room was clean, however the bedding and towels were not changed until day 4 (including the emptying of the bathroom bin) then the room was randomly cleaned again a day later but no towels left which my daughter had to get from reception, then just the bathroom bin emptied a day later, so cleaning very sporadic. The staff were very cheerful & friendly and I’m sure if there had been any actual real issues that could be sorted then they would have dealt with them. ||Unfortunately we had some quite noisy neighbours who woke us in the early hours, not drunken, just talking very loudly, almost shouting , children allowed to run around, TV loud until the early hours, not the accommodations fault obviously but little or no sound proofing. ||Overall our stay was just OK because we used neighbouring hotel pools & facilities, and we know and love the village although the road into Alikanas has become busy and fast due to a new road, but we sadly would not use the ELPIDA again unless some serious updating...

Stayed at this hotel had room 340 & 341 at back of hotel 4th July and left 8th July due to bedbug infestation. I have stayed in this resort many times over the past 20 years and have never ever experienced this. Utterly disgusted my husband and my room was infested with bedbugs but also our 18 year old son's and his friend's room were crawling alive with them. I instructed my family to pack their things as we were leaving and went to find the owner to show him, he was obversely aware that he had a problem as he ommited the room was spayed in May. Unlucky for him my husband is a pest controller and knows what he is talking about when it comes to bedbugs. My husband checked our Friends 3 rooms above us and they too had them. How we were treated by the owner was disgusting and he was very lucky we did not tell all his guests. My main concern was leaving there as quick as possible, the rep arrived and had never seen them before and left to deal with it on her own and was unable to find us another hotel as it was Sunday evening we were left waiting outside for about 3 hours until they could find somewhere for all 9 of us to stay the night. They moved us to apartments across the road that the owner said they belonged to his friend, we reluctantly stayed the night but We was moved to another hotel the following day only after I called every hour on 3 occasions. We had to move to the next resort and our friends went to the hotel next door. I also have Video footage but cant upload, as you can see from the photos I am covered in bites which I still have and our holiday has been ruined. We have returned home with the worry of infesting our home but due to my husband doing this for a living he has taken every precaution to prevent this, other people staying here may...
Read moreWe have just got back from our stay at the Elpida. We have been before but our last stay was 9 years ago. This time we visited as a big group and had 4 rooms in total. |Firstly the hotel, the pool area is kept spotless by Dennis who works hard throughout the day and night to maintain the hotel. He takes great pride in the property and its grounds and is a lovely smiley face around the place, always wishing you a good morning and a good night. The rooms are kept beautifully clean. During our stay my daughter became ill which meant we didn’t leave our room much but the cleaners obliged with clean sheets and towels when we needed them. |The mattresses are firm and comfy and the bed linen is changed regularly. |The family are so friendly and welcoming and the main reason that various members of my family have returned time after time. Spiros and Vana went above and beyond to help us make and attend appointments to ensure my little girl was fit to fly home and was a constant reassurance which I am so very grateful for! |This was my husbands first trip to Alykanas and he loved it and can’t wait to return. All of the bar owners remember you when you have visited before and go out of their way to ensure you feel welcome. It truely is the friendliest resort I have ever been to.|My two year old daughter loved that the majority of bars and restaurants have something to entertain children and the hotel being just a short walk meant that it was easy to get back to our hotel at the end of a busy night having fun! |We are not usually people who chose to return to the same place time after time but the Elpida and Alykanas holds a special place in our hearts and we are already planning...
