Very friendly welcome from Maria and Niko. The downsides: There is a charge for Aircon/heating. The shower was leaking slightly. The towel provided did its job but was difficult to dry. There is no safe in the room but there is a safe at reception so if you use these then it's not very accessible if you're storing a lot in the safe. There is no paper work in the rooms with mention of WiFi passwords for WiFi from your room but this can be easily asked for and there is free WiFi from the bar. There is no mention of fire exits either. The positives: Niko and Maria are incredibly friendly, they seemed to be really personable as well. I went the first week of May for my birthday, we mentioned it was on this particular day and Niko did remember which was lovely. Hangers do seem to come in the wardrobe, I usually take some foldable hangers with me - having hangers in the room was a little bonus. There is plenty of wardrobe space as well. The room does come with a small 19" TV. There is a small oven the size of a microwave with 2 hobs on top and a kettle. There is also a fridge. There is a hairdryer in the room. Opposite, over the road Niko owns a car/quad bike rental as well which is run by one of his family members. The evening food is absolutely amazing. The breakfast was a buffet from when the season started was lacking, there wasn't too much to choose from but enough to feed you. The breakfast is a continental breakfast buffet, no hot food - this is an extra charge / request. The views of the mountain is incredible as well. On the door going out to the balcony there is metal doors/shutters that slide over the glass doors to allow you to still get fresh air in the room with privacy and keep the room nice and dark on a night. The week I went I didn't realise it was just before the season started - it was very quiet and a lot of places around Alikanas were closed but there is a Spar shop nearby for your shopping. I would go back but I'd go when it's in season in Zante, I like a bit of atmosphere in a bar and around town and on a beach. If you're happy with a basic room if you're not planning on staying in your room, this is a great choice. By the end of my stay I did like this place, with it being quiet I met some really nice people that I could have a chat with next to the pool. Again, Niko and his family are lovely as mentioned. The bus connections weren't available online - I wasn't sure they were any running, I did have to get taxis around and about.

Everything about our experience at Plessas was positive. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. Maria, on reception, was friendly and checked us in with no hitches. The rooms are kept very clean, and the housekeeping staff are both curteous and professional. They respected our privacy and never entered our room if we were still in it. Meuri (forgive my spelling) who worked in the poolside bar was an absolute treasure - he sure does work hard and VERY long hours. Nothing was too much trouble for him. Also, Amanda, the waitress was professional and friendly - they make an excellent team. A few days before we left, Christian, the poolside/bar waiter, started. He was just the same - worked hard, very friendly, and made us feel very welcomed. Plessas is approx 300m 'up the road' from Alykanas main strip.(turn left when leaving Plessas) It's all flat, so there are no hills or steps to negotiate. There are copious amounts of bars and restaurants to choose from. We ate at 6 in total, and all of them provided great service with 5* quality food. Plessas is ideally located - close enough to the main strip, but far enough away not to hear much noise. There were no sunbed wars when we were there (end of June, beginning of July). It didn't matter what time you arrived at the pool. There were always sunbeds available. The pool is fantastic and is kept very clean. You have the option of hiring cars or quad bikes at the Plessas, we didn't on this trip. However, we will for our next one. There is also a small shop next door to Plessas where you can purchase towels or snacks for your room. Any food that is not bought at the poolside bar can not be eaten poolside. There is a fridge and kettle in the rooms. Monday nights are bingo nights Tuesday night is 'greek night' and is well worth going. Not only do you get to see authentic Greek dancing, but a lovely BBQ is also provided. I think we paid 17€ per person for the experience, and again it was well worth it. Friday night is quiz night. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and we will definitely be back.

Loved Hotel Plessas Palace. Family run, lovely outlook. Our room looked out over fields and hills. Room was clean and comfortable and the bed was more comfortable than usual, not as hard as some beds. It was in a good postion, very quiet but a short walk to the town and the beach. There is a super market next door, so not far to carry heavy water. The pool was outstanding and quiet, when we came back there was always sunbeds free so we could sit down and relax. They have a bbq every week and a quiz night to. The breakfast was nice, well for us, we have cereal, fruit and greek yogurt. Or there was ham, cheese, tomatoes and toast. Also different kinds of cake and croissants. There were lots of exotic plants around which enhanced the pool area and all around the hotel. We had a lovely time there.

If you are looking for a great holiday this summer then I highly recommend staying at Hotel Plessas Palace in Alykanas on the Greek Island of Zante (Zakynthos).

The Plessas Palace Hotel a family run hotel offering a quality service to its guests at affordable prices.

Renowned for our authentic Greek hospitality the Plessas Family take a personal interest in there guests needs and ensure they have everything they require for a pleasant stay.

The hotel is the ideal place for those seeking a traditional holiday with the chance to relate to real Greek people and to be treated with hospitality and as an individual.

Plessas Palace hotel was under renovation in May 2011 and is ready to welcome its guest with comfortable rooms in terms of furniture, colours, bathrooms. And the Plessas family are working hard at the moment painting the Hotel and getting everything ready for there guests arriving for there holidays.

Hotel Plessas Palace Facilities

Reception Swimming Pool & Children’s pool Snack Bar Mini Market Public (coin) Phone Library Free large parking area Rooms with Easy Access for Disabled Persons (on request) Lift to all floors

Situated in the resort of Alykanas just 100m from the centre and 800m from the golden sandy beaches is the Plessas Palace Hotel Complex.

Alykanas is near to the neighbouring resort of Alykes and with less than 1 km between the two it is a pleasant and easy flat walk from one resort to the other. It is situated 18km northwest of Zante.

Alykanas is surrounded by olive groves and lush green scenery. It is a quiet resort, with a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. If you climb or walk the hills around this area you will get some absolutely stunning views and beautiful photographs of the area and bay of Alykes and Alykanas.

The taxis in this village have been replaced by horse drawn cart, so give that a try firstly, it is very romantic and that’s why a lot of people choose this resort as a honeymoon destination. There isn’t much to do in the small village but relax on the beach and enjoy the small but personal Tavernas.

The food here is exquisite and the dishes are all authentic Greek and many contain elements of freshly landed fish. Try the Stifado and Mousakka if your looking for a real taste of Greece.

The resort itself is mainly for relaxing, and if your looking for a peaceful holiday with very little to do expect relax and enjoy the weather in Zante. You will find the people that choose to holiday here are looking for the same things as you and you will come away from the resort with some great friends and of course...
