PROs: breakfast was outstanding room's interior design was also outstanding got a bed for our pet
CONs: stayed in Hungary: but the price was denominated in EUR, yet we paid in HUF upon arrival. during our stay EUR weakened = they made the customer carry the exchange rate fluctuation's risk. pricing should be clear and concise and not fluctuating. we brought our dog with us as the hotel is pet friendly, however we see no clear indication neither on the website nor on-site how much extra a pet costs. we are still uncertain, as we did not received an itemised invoice the bed our dog received was very lovely, however, no-matter-how-much they tried to clean it before they brought it in, we immediately recognised that the previous dog threw-up on that bed, and they were clearly not able to clean that out perfectly (or at least as much as we would not immediately recognise this problem) there were some black markers on the top of our bathroom mirror. not a huge deal breaker, but just something you eventually notice this was the first place where we got charged for parking during our stay (even though we have been to quite some other hotels, and had never got charged for our car's parking) which was substantial compared to the overal price of the stay. at the reception desk they were kind and helpful, but: they should say to wait at least 1 hour after they turn on the sauna, not 20-30 minutes. the sauna was barely going at the time they suggested. even though we paid in advance right when we arrived to the hotel ("to make the checking-off process easier") the receptionist was asking for the money again during checking-off process. we had to go back to the room and go through the trash-bin to show him that we actually already paid them. it was a bit humiliating. also during one of the breakfast, one of the administrators came over and ask if there was a 3 person with us (no, there were 2 of us + our dog), but they mistakenly thought/messed something up at the reception thinking there were 3 of us. i wonder, did they charge breakfast...
Read moreWe stayed at this new, modern hotel in the city center and overall had a very good experience. The location is excellent, the atmosphere feels fresh and stylish, and the breakfast offers a rich and varied selection – a great way to start the day.||However, we often felt that design took priority over practicality. Especially when traveling with children (we stayed in a suite), we couldn’t help but wonder whether the interior designers ever thought about everyday use.||For example, in the separate toilet there’s nowhere to hang a hand towel, even though there’s plenty of space. The wall-mounted faucet and soap dispenser are too high for children (even for our five-year-olds), making them impossible to reach. The bathroom with a shower is spacious, but there’s no place to put clothes. The double washbasins look impressive in photos, but in reality, the basins themselves are quite small, placed rather high, and there’s nowhere to put your toiletry bag. Again, the wall-mounted faucets and soap dispensers are out of reach for kids.||It’s really surprising that such basic usability mistakes are made in newly designed hotels. The tile work was also not done to a high standard – silicone joints are already cracking, and the metal trims around the door frames are uneven.||I also don’t understand why new hotels still use carpet flooring. While everything is new now, carpets quickly become unhygienic and are difficult to clean. A wooden or parquet floor would be both easier to maintain and more hygienic.||Breakfast was generous with a good selection, though the boiled eggs were cold – and soft-boiled eggs simply don’t taste good when cold.||In summary: a modern and attractive hotel with potential, but functionality and attention to detail could definitely...
Read moreI've just returned from a weekend in Debrecen (and my first trip to Hungary) and could not have been happier with my choice of hotel. Pre-arrival communication was excellent, eg they arranged a taxi for me from the airport at short notice, and from beginning to end of the stay I felt this Mercure genuinely cared about the guest experience. As a solo female traveller arriving at 2am in the morning, I felt welcome and immediately "at home".|The decor is stylish, contemporary and comfortable, the rooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed (I appreciated the USB ports), and I was impressed with the buffet breakfast, which was generous (lunch not needed!) with plenty of healthy options, such as six different seeds for toppings, and almond milk and non-lactose milk as standard at the tea/coffee bar. At most hotels, I don't opt in to breakfast but here I enjoyed it so much I looked forward to it on my second morning too.|Every member of staff was really friendly and helpful.|The location is great - just a two-minute walk from the main square and Reformed Great Church, as well as many restaurants and the tram stop - and yet it feels like a relaxing oasis.|There are great spaces around the hotel (inside and out) for working or wasting time over a coffee. And the Cure coffee shop that's part of the complex, but I think a separate business. also has excellent cakes and drinks.|The only thing I would have liked is an iron in the room (it's a bother to have to go to reception and fetch one just to take a few creases from a shirt) but everything else was so good that this minor point doesn't come close to denting my...
