After the renovation the place become lovely. All rooms were spotless, and most meals were nice. And full stop. We were having our wedding there, booked all the rooms for a full week, and the restaurant for a full night with over 100 guests. We has all the deals arranged with the younger owner at one day, and a few months later we met with his father who was awful. As it was only a few days before the wedding it was too late for us to a new reception venue. We arranged a fixed price with the nice owner who said we can bring in our own drink for free, but the other said it is impossible and will count corkage fee or alternatively gave us a not so good deal on the booze. As it was a big event we were expecting the place is going to be inclusive for us but the day before he said the terrace will be open for outside guests, so during the night we got a few unknown people on the dance floor with us. My sister's dance group gave us a surprise dance on the night (10 girls less than 15 years old all of them). After the dance my mother asked some drinks for the girls and the waiter came back with tap water. This time my mother told them to give them something more suitable, which they brought right away. I know it is a business, but I was very upset when the day after the wedding we paid for the services, the old owner charged us for those drinks as well (some of the girls belonged to our invited guests). We left there about 1,5 million Hungarian forints but still got charged for those drinks worth 4000 Forints. Also the best man got one room for only one night for the wedding. We arranged the same fee for all of our guests for that one night but he got charged twice as much. (he told me a week later how much did he pay) As our guests were English and Hungarian all the staff assumed the British guests don't speak German. One of the waiter told to one of the British guest in German to ' go home f*er' and as my mother was nearby (speaks fluent German), she got very upset on this treatment. The food generally was very nice, but the midnight stuffed cabbage wasn't edible. Most people tried it, but left it on the plate as it very salty and peppery. (I am sure this one thing was accident) We also arranged the wedding cakes to come on the wedding day, and we got told that they have no space to store them in any of their fridges. I went in the day before and told them that the cakes are coming and better to find some space for them or I will be very angry, so in the end it was sorted. But I got a big cake as wedding present from one our guest and when they came up with the request to store it for about 2-3 hours in a fridge or cold space, they refused saying that all the food and booze takes up all their spaces for the night, so it was left on the side in kitchen and got very flat and warm by the time we got to desserts. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone. The place is pretty to have a wedding there, but doesn't worth the hassle...
Read moreI visited this restaurant on the very strong recommendation of the owner of the house where I stayed. I asked him which is the best traditional Hungarian restaurant in Siofok, stating that we would like to eat the traditional goose liver, Hungary being famous for its quality. Unfortunately, this product was missing from the restaurant's menu. In fact, even though it was Sunday evening, the restaurant was empty. We ordered two main courses (duck liver - not too great and beef fillet - tasty), an aperitif (goose liver pate - so so) 4 glasses of red wine (average quality) of only 100 ml each !!!. The red wine had a temperature of over 25C. We hardly managed to lower its temperature to about 18C, so that we could drink it with food. The wait staff was friendly but had serious problems communicating in English. The bill - €90 - seemed to me above the level of the offer of this restaurant which, to be honest, I would not visit again. I have passed through Siofok before and had much better...
Read moreThis has been a well known tourist place for decades, totally renovated (following a fire) three years ago. We only had lunch in the csárda, but have not stayed in the panzio.||They offer a wide selection of Hungarian dishes, serving huge portions, so you may want to order the half portion (for one person) of the dishes marked with an asterisk on the menu - that will still be plenty. I had the fish soup, which was excellent, and the duck leg with red cabbage, tender and tasty. Others at the table were also happy with their choices except for my wife who had the knuckle of ham, which was dry and had probably been heated again and again. The túróscsusza (noodles with cottage cheese and sour cream, topped with fried pork fat) was excellent (some Hungarians actually sprinkle it with liberal amounts of powdered sugar, a strange combination, but delicious).||Service was friendly and efficient, prices (having ordered half portions)...
