Friends Guest House & Hostel - Agra — Hotel in Agra

What positive can I write about it? The location is reasonably OK, even though it's still a long walk to Taj Mahal (which really, really should be the only reason to go to Agra for). The people at the hotel are pleasant enough. Verbatim: "Be careful shopping in Agra. People will tell you it's their brother's store, and they have real products. Don't believe it, it's all fake. Now if you want REAL goods, my uncle has a store..." I kid you not.

The room must have been the worst place I've ever slept in. Damp, windowless, dirty, tiny and generally depressing. The walls were covered with centimeter-thick fungus all over, which made it difficult to breathe (not to mention it's bad for health). We slept in our clothes and legged it first thing in the morning. My advice is to stay far away.

Avoid sleeping in Agra if you can. If you get in with a morning train from Delhi, you can comfortably visit the Taj Mahal and leave for Jaipur in the night, if...

We had an amazing few days with Joseph and Family at the Friends Guest House and Hostel, we couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming and hospitable start to our India trip! The hostel is in a great location as it is so close to the Taj Mahal you can walk there. It is also in a good position for other sights like the Agra fort and close to other restaurants. Joseph is a government registered tour guide so was able to sort out all excursions for us, guide us around the Taj Mahal and show us all aspects of Agra, he was also able to help us with transport plans and recommendations for other regions of the country. The restaurant at the top of the Hostel does lovely food and drinks for a decent price and all of the staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. I had prebooked this hotel for my stay 1 month before. The price was cheaper but after visiting I saw not a single guests apart from us in that hotel. Our mobile internet was not working hence we requested them to give us the wifi password which was mentioned while booking but the owner told us that wifi is not working. Worst service. The food was so bad never ever had that kind of food. The hotel guy was too lazy. Washrooms were dirty and there was a leakage issue. We had to change our room for this reason. Don't visit this hotel instead search for other options. They don't even offer towel or soap as welcome kit. Worst experience. Please don't visit this hotel.
