Hotel New Park, Solicitors Road, Jorhat — Hotel in Assam

Starting with a positive note, the staff is very polite, hence that one star. But the hotel is very poorly managed. Starting with the first room that we were allotted, the tap in the bathroom does not work (only the geyser outlet works, so we have only piping hot water to take a shower) and the water keeps on leaking so we had to keep a bucket under it. When asked for toothpaste, we were told that they only provide soap (no other toiletries), the rest we must carry. No kettle to warm water. We requested to change our room as we were unable to take a shower. Now here is where the nightmare starts. We came back to the room to find a cockroach on top of the bed. Calling the room service they came and sprayed HIT all over the room. So the second day we did take a shower but slept with the entire room reeking of HIT and the fear of a cockroach sleeping with us. Unfortunately changing hotels wasn't an option, so we had to stay for the night. Next morning we come to the dining area for our "Complimentary breakfast" with just 3 items to choose from (cornflakes, paratha and Poha). When asked for bread butter or mere eggs, they said we must pay for everything else (we did speak to the manager and later they did provide us). This has been my third visit to this hotel and compared to the previous two stays, this was a notch dissapointing. Have no complaints regarding quality of rooms or bathrooms. They were sufficiently clean and well spaced. The food menu is okay with prices being a little bit on the higher side. What's really terrible is, is their room service. If you plan to order your food from room, keep in mind that you need to order it twice. Once to order, the second time to remind them that you ordered. Maybe this is just a temporary lapse in their attention span but whatever the scenario, I have no other complaints or regrets about staying here. I would not even give a single star to this horrible hotel as my stay there had been worse than I expected!! (I didn't expect much anyway because of the low rate). The manager is extremely indecent and the staff is poorly equipped. They failed to serve us our breakfast even after we waited for 45 minutes due to which we had to cancel our order as we were running late for an event. The basic amenity like a water bottle was not there in the room and to add to the horror ,there were no phone numbers given on the landline phone in the room with which we could call the reception or house keeping.
