stayed at Taj Chandigarh for 10 nights, and was looking forward to a clean hotel with welcoming hospitality, not the perfect one, but best bang for my buck. The hotel indeed turned out to be that way. The management was extremely cautious and made strenuous efforts to keep my room and hotel generally very clean. The cleaning, room service and laundry staff went over and beyond to help me stay comfortable. Geetika from the dining, was always welcoming and able to customize any of my food needs. Harminder, the front office staff, deserved notable mention for seriously dealing with all my repeated requests, and allowed late check out due to my evening flight schedule. Generally, staff was very welcoming and cooperative even though I didn't fall into any of the hotel's designated VIP categories, which entitles those guests special treatment, a microcosm of highly complex hierarchical Indian socio-cultural context. Personally, I wouldn't even accept any status based special treatment, rather be happy with authenticly positive two way interactions. My room was spacious, comfortable, and noise-free. The lobby, sitting, and eating area was spacious and had a lot of natural light. These areas could have been better with some phone charging points, as one has to run back to the room for charging phones etc. Given its central location, the hotel and easy access everywhere in the tri-city area. One of the best aspects of the hotel is its daily evening diva lighting ceremony that contributes in creating spiritually positive, and a relaxing and soothing atmosphere for guests and others alike. The practice is rooted in ancient Indic civilizational ethos. The practice became an integral part of my stay, when one evening, staff incharge of the diva lighting ceremony, Sargam Bambal, an awesome guest relations executive, honored me with an opportunity to initiate the ceremony by lighting the diva. Then it was my honor to light the first diva throughout my stay. Sargam, who was equally dedicated to the hotel and guests, incredibly impressed me with the speed, calmness and generosity of her manner in taking care. The hotel is blessed to have such a quality person in this role. In addition, Sargam arranged to have the hotel present me a gift box at the time of departure with a tie, cuff, and pocket square. A very moving gesture for me that only a daughterly...
Read moreWe came to Chandigarh to see the rock garden (fantastic, everything I hoped for) and spent 5 nights at the Taj which was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the swimming pool which is absolutely gorgeous, a great size, and was mostly very peaceful. For shopping, the nearby mall is very convenient and has many good options including Forest Essentials and FabIndia. Akash was very helpful for where to go.
We were mainly working with just a little time for exploring, so we got the club room which was well worth it to have a nice, quiet space to work during the day. The internet in the lounge was good (zoom worked well!), and the staff very kind. I will miss Binit bringing me tea when I get home for sure! They also have the best pineapple juice I have ever tasted. Make sure to try it!
For exploring, Khushi on the travel desk is extremely helpful, and we were so grateful to the driver Jaspreet who helped us navigate our first unsupervised outing in India.
The rooms are a little dated, but very comfortable with great water pressure and lovely (Forest Essentials!) toiletries. Housekeeping were very thorough and kept everything very clean. We really enjoyed the towel art, so fun!
We really enjoyed the food at the Taj, it was less westernized than some other hotels I have stayed at in India which I really appreciated. Ajay is so funny and got us (mainly my partner!) to try so many things and we liked all of them. Our favourite was the Black Lotus, partly for the food, but even more so for Harshan and Padma who are so lovely. A wonderful way to end your day.
If we are lucky enough to return to Chandigarh we will absolutely stay here again. I highly recommend Chandigarh for your India itinerary - it's a special and unique city and far safer and less overwhelming than Bangalore - and the Taj specifically is the perfect place from which...
