Shocking, Apathetic and Insensitive Hospitality by La Calypso. Indifferent Onlooker MakeMyTrip Claimer: I write this with full responsibility and pain.
We chose two nights for North Goa, and the remaining three for our penchant for away-from-the-crowd feel, in South Goa. We zero-in on La Calypso Beach Resort and reserve two cottages, as our two children also join us from work. We are into our second day, and had finished the complimentary breakfast, when my best-half drops a bomb — “our daughter was attacked by a drunk goon early morning.” I listen agape and horrified. Our daughter is a morning person and likes her run and walk in the wee hours. Out on her morning walk routine, barely 100 meters away from the back entrance of the resort, the man tried to get fresh with my daughter, and offered a head massage. Her vehement ‘No’ only emboldened him and he attempted to grab her hand. Scared, yet alert, she raises an alarm, and attracts the attention of the security guard of the resort. The goon runs away. Traumatised, she returns to the resort and sits by the pool, while her brother and we sleep in our respective cottage, unaware. The security guard comes to the cottage to check on my daughter, only to find my groggy son, who comes to know about the incident. My son informs the mother and she breaks it to me. Practically 5 hours have elapsed since the incident happened.
I AM RAGED AND CONCERNED My mind is racing — possibly my daughter made an error of judgement in venturing out early, but now that the incident had happened what follow up action has been taken and should be taken. I immediately dial reception. I find the duty manager on the other side. I ask two straight questions — “An incident happened this morning, why wasn’t I informed about it?” “What action has the resort taken about this?” I’m sure these are reasonable questions to raise. Anger was building in me and the replies of the duty manager made things worse. “Yes sir, the security checked on your daughter, but she wasn’t there in the cottage. Her brother was there and we informed him.” “Sir, the incident happened outside the resort premises, we cannot do anything about it.”
I AM ENRAGED I’m usually calm, and like to take things in humour and fairness, but this was ridiculous. “A guest comes to your home, and you tell him that we cannot do anything about it. The police should have been called by now.” The third response only exposed the mindset of the management — “Sir, you will have to call the police and not us.” INDIAN PSYCHE AND THE POLICE The moment, the name ‘police’ was mentioned, even my family chickened out. No one was in favour of informing the police. I tried to reason out but to no avail. I can understand the diffidence of the resort, for nobody wants a bad publicity, but the fact my family didn’t back the idea of reporting, was an irresponsible act.
I REFUSE TO LET GO THE MATTER Meanwhile, MakeMyTrip is flooding me with WhatsApp messages enquiring about my stay. I seize the moment, and share my disappointment and concern as a response to their query. MAKE MY TRIP ENTERS THE SCENE & MAKES AN OFFER At around 5pm in the evening, when the family is trying to put the incident behind and regroup at the beach for a walk and a boat ride, I get a call. It’s a lady executive from MakeMyTrip. I verbally repeat the happenings and express my disappointment strongly. The lady instantly apologises and then out of the blue offers me a refund of ₹1500/- for the poor experience. I respond in no uncertain terms — “Miss, had you been the victim would you have accepted this dole?? I refuse to accept this.” The lady executive does the next best thing she’s trained for - she says that “we are escalating the issue.”

We were a group of 30 friends . Booked the hotel 3 months back. Still were allocated segregated rooms , entirely unprofessionally unplanned. I really had the unfortunate experience of staying at Hotel La Calypso and I feel compelled to share my disappointment, particularly regarding the non cooperation of entire staff especially misbehavior of the hotel F&B manager, Shailesh. My stay at this establishment was marred by unprofessional and disrespectful conduct that left a lasting negative impression.
From the moment I encountered F&B manager Shailesh, it was evident that he lacked basic courtesy and professionalism. His attitude towards guests was dismissive and condescending, making it clear that customer satisfaction was not a priority for him. Instead of addressing concerns and assisting guests, he exhibited a complete disregard for their needs and concerns.
It is deeply disappointing when a hotel manager, who should be the epitome of professionalism, fails to meet even the most basic standards of customer service.
In addition to his unprofessional behavior, Shailesh exhibited a lack of empathy and respect towards guests. He displayed a dismissive attitude when confronted with issues or complaints, refusing to take responsibility or provide suitable solutions. This level of indifference is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated in the hospitality industry.
Furthermore, the overall experience at Hotel La Calypso was far from satisfactory. The room I was allocated was in poor condition, with outdated furnishings and subpar cleanliness. The amenities promised on their website were either non-existent or in a state of disrepair. It is evident that the hotel management has neglected proper maintenance and upkeep.
Considering the misbehavior of Manager Shailesh and the disappointing overall experience, I strongly advise potential guests to reconsider staying at Hotel La Calypso. The unprofessional conduct and lack of customer service exhibited by Shailesh were a significant letdown. As a guest, I believe it is vital to be treated with respect and professionalism, which were sorely lacking during my stay.
I hope that the hotel management takes these concerns seriously and addresses the issues at hand. It is crucial for them to reevaluate their approach to customer service and ensure that guests are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend Hotel La Calypso to fellow travelers who seek a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

The waitstaff especially Himanshu and Nathano was knowledgeable and provided excellent recommendations, enhancing my dining experience.
Outstanding Facilities: La Calypso boasts a range of outstanding facilities that added to the overall experience. Their swimming pool La Splash was ultimate where Saiel and Vishnu were on top of services, I thoroughly enjoyed indulging in their luxurious treatments.
Perfect Location: La Calypso's location was ideal, situated on the Baga beach with immediate beach access and also to major attractions of Goa. This made it convenient for me to explore the city and return to a comfortable retreat after a day of sightseeing.
In conclusion, my stay at La Calypso surpassed all my expectations. The exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, exquisite dining, outstanding facilities, and prime location all contributed to an unforgettable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone seeking a truly remarkable hotel stay. I cannot wait for the opportunity to return and relive the memories created during my time...
