We visited the Royal Orchid Beach resort for 5 nights for my dad's 90th birthday. We booked adjoining rooms with a very nice sit out which could accommodate 4 comfortably. The rooms are spacious with double beds and a spacious shower/toilet. The staff at this hotel are attentive, courteous and always offering service with a smile. The pool is beautiful and clean with a swim up pool bar. The pool attendants Pradip and Sridhar were attentive and courteous and always attended to our needs for towels when returning from the beach or sitting by the pool. They went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and even adjusted our umbrellas to ensure that we were not in the sun. The hotel has a restaurant which serves an elaborate buffet breakfast and dinner. You can book rooms with breakfast and dinner if you so choose. We had buffet breakfast every morning and had a la carte dinners on 2 nights. The buffet breakfast has a large selection of pastries, breads, 3 types of cereal, muesli and fresh fruit such as cantaloupe, watermelon and papaya that was sweet and freshly cut daily. They also served 3 different types of fresh juices and then had a large selection of sada and masala dosa and poori bhaji cooked to order as well as an omelette, waffle and egg station which were prepared fresh to order. The buffet also had a large selection of south Indian and Maharashtrian breakfast items. We celebrated my dads birthday at the resort and Ramesh from housekeeping decorated the room tastefully with towel art, balloons and fresh flowers. We appreciated his smile and attention when cleaning our rooms on a daily basis. Mildred the Front office manager organized a special diabetic cake and creme caramel dessert for my father which we really appreciated. A special thank you to her for organizing this surprise for my father. We ate from the a la carte menu on 2 nights. The service was personable and friendly and we appreciated the special care and attention taken by Elvyn who attended to our every need. The food in the restaurant was good but we ordered rotis one night which were stale and like leather. The restaurant very kindly changed it to naans at no additional cost. We also ordered a hot and sour soup which was not very good and overly spicy and had too much pepper. The restaurant did not charge us for this. If you do order a la carte tell the staff about your spice level. The front office staff were courteous and friendly and a special thank you to Niloufer for her attentive and personable service. The hotel is walking distance from the quiet and spotless Utorda beach. The beach was cleaned daily by the local panchayat and it was only a 200m walk from the hotel. There are a number of beach shacks within walking distance and we enjoyed the food at Lloyd's on the beach. The hotel itself has sprawling lush gardens with a group of resident ducks and fish and there is a fussball table, air hockey table and caromboard in the lobby for guests to avail off. We enjoyed the hotel for its personalised and friendly service and scenic and beautiful ambiance. Its away from all the hustle and bustle of north goa and the beach is much quieter than the throngs that frequent Colva beach. We would definitely visit this hotel again and would highly recommend it to fellow travellers.
Our only critique for the hotel is that they should provide double duvets for couples. The ceiling vents in the bathrooms do not work and it is leading to the build up of mold in the showers which can be easily addressed by changing the...
Read moreMy overall experience was "very average" with this resort- First Impression - The entry is narrow and lobby is very average for the brand of Royal orchid. No warm welcome as such though nothing bad. Location - Good accessibility to the beach but nothing else nearby within walkable distance, you definitely need a vehicle to roam around. Rooms- Normal rooms are slightly small, very basic interiors, not luxurious for sure. Nothing outstanding except a large screen TV (with only SD channels). Quality of extra mattress provided was very poor. Open wardrobes, no hangers, no slippers provided. Bathroom- Worst part. Bathroom was clean but very very congested. You cannot step out from shower cubical without touching the WC. I would reject this resort only for such poor bathroom. Breakfast - Great taste and variations. Refills were bit slow, some of the items got over quickly. Could add more variety. Highlight was live Indian classical music. Food - Decent taste, high price, low quantity, service in restaurant is slow, plus they add 10% staff support charge which is surprising for already high price and poor service. Service - Overall service is decent, no bad experience. Promptness is missing though. Pool- Pool size is small, definitely not as big as it looks in pics, only 4 feet deep, so good for families but not good for swimming. Highlight is the bar attached to the pool where they serve drinks. Amenities - Indoor games are very few and mostly occupied. Other all activities are paid. Lawn area is beautiful. Maintenance- Overall property is well maintained and clean. Check-out - While checking-in they had mentioned 20% discount on food and beverages, which was not followed in some of the bills which we had to get corrected while check out. Also, they didn't give us discount on alcoholic beverages which was not mentioned to us earlier. Our kids consumed 1 kit-kat from the in-room snacks and they didn't ever offered waiving-off as a good-will gesture even though we had booked 3 rooms for 4 days and we were checking out a day earlier due to our flight timings.
Overall, I would say, as a normal resort its not bad, but my expectations were high from the brand of Royal Orchid where it definitely falls short. Book only if you are...
Read moreI had booked the place for 8 nights, largely basis the location and the facilities, hoping for a quiet, leisurely vacation and was hoping to work remotely from here for a few days in between. The location is great, smooth and easy access to a clean beach. The room cleanliness and hygiene and facilities are average for the price they charge, with a bunch of facilities not functional. The staff is generally very courteous and friendly and try to do what they can to make the stay pleasant. The biggest issue for this place is that this is more of a Wedding garden than a holiday resort; which means that this is absolutely NOT for anyone wanting to spend a quiet time. In the 4 days we have been here, every day has been a wedding or a sangeet function with loud thumping bollywood music playing through the day and till late nights and lots of random tent house workers floating around to erect and dismantle the set-up adding to the general nuisance value and adding to covid-19 risk as their is no control on them. We had booked two club rooms, while the rooms themselves were fine, the marriage party and constant noise through the day & night, killed the whole experience and the staff seemed pretty helpless - didn't even have a way to offer a noise free room. We have had to stay put indoors for a good part due the loud DJ music and the kids can't use any of the semi-functional facilities due to so many random workers roaming around. If you like gate crashing on random weddings, this is the place for you. But if you are someone who wants to have a nice and quiet time by the beach with some privacy with your family, please avoid this. There are lots of good places in South Goa that you can prefer over this. In terms of accessibility, its not well thought through. - if you are a senior citizen who cannot climb stairs, best to avoid as the only dining area requires you to climb up and there isn't an elevator. The staff was generally very helpful to work around this constraint and did offer to serve the food for my mother separately, but this also meant we cannot all...
