I highly recommend you to NOT stay here and not dive with them even though they have good revews. Apparently they don't offer the same quality anymore. I guess that is how it is everywhere these days. Once they receive good reviews they reduce the quality of their services and rise the prices to gain more profit as they already have enough customers. My friends used to stay there. They also enrolled the scuba diving course with them. The accomodation is over priced and they don't take you to the best locations for diving either, and yet the owner is probably the meanest person in the entire island! You can find better accommodation at the more convenient location, and yet cozy with perfect services at the lower price than what you have to pay here. For diving I strongly recommend you to go to the ones that are professional. The ones who actually care about taking you to the rich locations. For instance, Havelock Island Beach Resort or Andaman Bubbles seem to be good ones. They are a few hundred meters or so before and after this one. By the way, as I said my friend were staying here. They invited me to come over to go for snorkeling at the public beach together. The owner called them the first day and we had a good time. When I was going to meet my friend at the public beach to go for snorkeling again the other day, the owner stopped me at the end of the path and said I am not allowed to enter the yard because I don't stay there. She didn't bother herself to call my friend and even though I was almost at the beach, she forced me to go all the way back through her property under the sun in a really hot day and use the other way to reach the beach. It was an open area where the rooms were at the corners. I was not in a hall or any sensitive area. I was already passed the way and was almost at the beach! Just imagine she forced me to actually go through her property all the way back to the entrance and exit it rather than just letting me jump out of her property in case she was worried about safety or whatever logic she had in her mind! I begged her to let me just exist as I was a bit far from the public beach (there are no physical gates). She was just so mean and rude yelling at me that I am not a guest. Therefore, I am not allowed to meet my friends there even though they live there, even though she already accepted me at the first time! So beleive me, you don't want to spoil your lovely moments in this lively island with a mean owner who just thinks about money. You don't want to be seen as an ATM machine and yet your friends won't be allowed to visit you at the public areas! Do a favor for yourself and chose an alternative place to stay and or for diving. Apart fromt this very horrible experience, I have only had friendly interactions with anyone else in the island. The islanders are always so friendly, extremely generous, trustworthy and...
Read moreI have earlier experienced scuba diving thrice and extensively done snorkeling, freediving, kayaking, cliff jumping. Even my wife, Dimple, loves water activities though not as avid lover like me. She had not experienced scuba diving earlier. We really wanted to get certification so we could start diving together. We chose Gypsy divers basis online reviews and discussion with Poonam who was very transparent with offerings.
I chose Open water and Advanced open water course and my wife went for Open water diving course. Further we got 2 of our friends to join along - Ankur for Open water and Rajeev for Discover scuba.
The instructors for OW & AOW were really experienced and encouraging. Rohan is a wonderful instructor and was extremely professional in his instructions. Diving is a fun recreational activity but one has to very meticulous and mindful of equipments and techniques. His impetus on discipline and techniques really set the pace for the course and we took it very seriously, including both theroy and practicals. We improved on our skills with each dive and it all paid off on our final OW dive. It was the best underwater experience any of us had ever had. Diving felt like meditation.
Raja my advanced OW diver was quite motivating and really helped with improving my bouyancy. Deep diving entails one to be careful about so many stuff. He explained everything and handled my numerous queries with such an amazing smile.
Other divers like Keli, Marshall, Tattoo were all so amazing and got to learn something unique from each one of them. Though we didn't have any inhibitions, but I saw them all managing fear of some other participants so effortlessly. I would recommend everyone to interact with all the instructors as they have something special to share. And a big shout out to Keli for some wonderful pics and videos underwater. Got to learn a few antics from him.
By the end of the course we all had become amazingly close with all the instructors. It felt like diving had indeed become an integral part of our life. We also learnt a lot about the island and some interesting offbeat places to visit from our discussion with the owner Mr Santosh. Thanks to Poonam for general tips for our future diving experience. I am looking forward to rescue diver course after completing few more dives in 1-2 years.
Also we stayed in the resort for the entire stay and it was totally worth it. The property is really beautiful and we were lucky to enjoy a spectacular view on full moon night at their private beach.
We are thankful to the entire Gypsydivers team for this fabulous and...
Read moreA little late to the party but I did my OW + AOW course with Gypsy back in November just after Diwali and it was absolutely CRAZY!
You might feel a little skeptical the first time the taxi driver drops you @ Gypsy but its just the walk from Lava cafe (Inside Gypsy) to the reception that settles you right in. Everything at Gypsy is more than perfect. The food, the dives, the instructors and ofc Babu and Bambi (I'll let the identities of Babu and Bambi be a surprise).
I stayed in the Standard Rooms at Havelock as a solo traveller and it was much cleaner and nicer than I expected. The bathroom was big with space to dry my wet clothes after the dives. The room was always cleaned before I finished my dives so I'd come back to a clean room. With respect to the dorms I'd definitely advise any future solo travellers to stay in the dorms if you get a chance since it gives you a better chance to make plans and meet people. The dorms were very clean and the beds were high up which gives everyone their own small private space
The food at Lava Cafe is hands down the best food you can get in Havelock. Do try their Prawn Curry in Andaman/Indian style with Garlic rice. Their lobster in Indian style is also đ„đ„! Shoutout to the 2 cooks and Balkrishna at Lava Cafe for making all that delicious food. I was in Havelock for a total of around 26 meals and I ate 23 at Lava Cafe. I just didn't want to out!
Rohan is an amazing instructor who is very knowledgeable about all things diving! Besides just knowing, he also makes sure that ur comfortable in water which keeps you confident and willing to perform better. With Rohan, I feel Khaley and Raja were exceptional when it came to assisting and leading the dives for us first timers as they didn't give up on us easily. Instead of just blatantly taking me to surface, the helped me calm down underwater by instructing me breathe till I was comfortable. Vidya and Chotti at the reception are amazing with scheduling the dives and making sure you are comfortable with the schedule. Also, one must not forget Bheem Bhaiya who was always there at the oddest of times when my AC fell apart or I needed my room cleaned. Last but not the least, Poonam: She is the heart and soul of Gypsy who brings out the best in everyone. Her presence at Gypsy is what cherry tops the whole experience. I don't think any luxury hotel in the world can match the level of hospitality that Poonam at Gypsy Divers has to offer.
Overall, Gypsy Divers was my first step into the underwater diving world and they have set the bar extremely high! Thankyou so much and sorry for the delayed...
