Let’s start with the positives before getting to why I’ve rated it 3 stars instead of 5.

PROS: Excellent Ambience: Despite visiting in May during peak humidity, the restaurant felt comfortable thanks to effective ventilation, desert coolers, and thoughtful interior design. The lighting and decor are both tasteful.

Courteous Staff: The team is polite, attentive, and proactive. Waiters remained nearby and frequently checked in to ensure we had everything we needed.

Delicious Food: The food was flavorful and well-portioned. Absolutely no complaints in this department.

Purely based on food and ambiance, the restaurant deserves a full 5 stars.

CONS: Difficult Access: The approach road from the main road is a rough mud-and-pebble path, which becomes especially challenging if it has rained. Walking this stretch at night is not advisable. However, to their credit, the management has arranged free SUV pickups and drop-offs for guests from nearby hotels—a thoughtful solution, particularly if road repair is outside their control.

Uncomfortable Pickup Experience: While the pickup service is appreciated, the experience left room for improvement. We (three people, including two seniors around 55 years old) were picked up from Havelock Island Beach Resort, just 700 meters away. After we were seated, the driver stopped at adjoining Sea Shell hotel to pick up another elderly couple, likely in their 70s. With the front and middle passenger seats already occupied, the driver expected the elderly couple to climb into the rear area of the SUV—an unsuitable and uncomfortable arrangement. Understandably, the couple declined. For us, it felt uncomfortable and even a bit guilty to be seated in proper seats while the elderly couple was expected to climb into the rear of the vehicle. We suggested dropping us at the restaurant first and returning for them, but the driver refused. Eventually, the couple squeezed in and we were driven to the restaurant, just 500 meters ahead.

Service Consistency: Though the pickup/drop service is complimentary, I believe that any service—especially one advertised and offered as part of the experience—should meet the same high standards that the restaurant upholds in other areas. If you’re looking for a place that combines incredible food, refreshing drinks, and a perfect ambiance, Something Different Café near the beach is a hidden treasure you don’t want to miss! From the moment we walked in, we were enchanted by the cozy yet vibrant atmosphere.
