Broad Bean Hotel Kochi — Hotel in Kerala

We have booked this hotel for 2 Nights and have taken two rooms. We were super excited when we entered the property. The lobby looked nice and after the formalities we were taken to the Room. |The Room was very spacious, neatly decked up. The ambience was good. The room had a living Room and a Bed Room. The Room was quiet warm and we thought that the Room will become cold once we turn on the AC. We switched on the AC and the Room temperature was showing 27 Degrees. We entered the Bathroom which was also spacious and with required amenities. The cockroaches in the Bathroom become excited and started dancing on seeing us. We were also excited on seeing this and left the cockroaches to have a fun time with us. ||We were very hungry and thought of ordering the DInner. The Menu was pretty decent and the prices are normal comparable to a five star Hotel. We then placed the order through Zomato. |We were waiting for the dinner to arrive. The room was getting warmer as the time was passing, we started sweating. But the cockroaches in the bathroom were still enjoying and started partying. We called the reception and informed them about the AC and the Cockroaches. Since the staff were very busy, they have finished all their work and came to our Room. FIrst the Houseman came and said that he will shift the cockroaches to the other Room. Soon he left, the maintenance guy came and started checking the condition of the AC. He was unable to rectify it and started calling someone and taking his guidance to arrest the issue. Then he did something with the outdoor unit and started working by making sound. He said it is working fine now and the temperature will come down in half an hour. ||We have finished our dinner and still the temperature was not coming down. The houseman also didn't turn up to shift the cockroaches and we decided to shift ourselves to other Room. First they said they do not have Rooms and later they have shown an other Room where the Room temperature was showing 27 degrees again. Since we were very tired, we slept in the same Room.||The next day morning was pleasant and had a good bath. The water was really hot and then we went to the Restaurant to have Breakfast. The breakfast menu was limited with local delicacies like Puttu and Kadalai. It was really delicious. We went out at 10 AM for our work and came back by around 7 PM. The AC, the cockroaches were the same and no changes. || We tried the Restobar on the 7th Floor. It has a very good view of the city and the prices are as usual of 5 Star standard. No comments about the Food. They were busy in the closing the Restaurant and started informing us to leave by 10:30 PM||The property has past its prime with no maintenance. They should improve the cleanliness and educate the staff to work more professional. This property was a 4 Star Hotel, but they have downgraded themselves to less than 3 Star. Myself Santosh Iyer stayed with my family at the Broad Bean Hotel in Kochi for one night and encountered several issues within less than 24 hours of our stay in this supposed "4-star property" that charged us 10 thousand rupees for just one night.

Pest Infestation: Our rooms were overrun with various insects, from cockroaches to bed bugs. Despite changing rooms, the problem persisted.

Poor Quality Linens: It was disappointing to find torn linen in all our rooms. This reflects poor hygiene and a lack of basic amenities. Having torn bedsheets is not what we expected.

Unsanitary Dining Conditions: During breakfast, we were shocked to encounter a rat near the food area. Additionally, the lack of working air conditioning made the experience uncomfortable. The buffet food was so cold that none of us felt like eating it.

Unpleasant Balcony View: The view from our balcony was disappointing, facing an office building where workers could observe us. This was the supposed "balcony view deluxe room" offered to us.

Disruptive Construction:  Despite our repeated requests to stop the ongoing construction work in the room beside us, and even after asking housekeeping to intervene, the construction continued unabated. Eventually, we had to directly approach the workers and insist that they cease their activities. It's unacceptable for a hotel to subject its guests to such disruptive construction noise.

Unprofessional Hospitality: The hotel staff displayed rudeness and unhelpfulness throughout our stay. At dinner, they repeatedly asked for our room numbers, despite us having already provided this information upon entering the buffet hall. This led to arguments and the restaurant staff's refusal to acknowledge their mistake. Even during check-out, when we provided feedback, the staff appeared disinterested and indifferent to the difficulties we had experienced.

Travel Agent Dissatisfaction: Our travel agent, Shiva from Sharmila Travels in Thane, was responsible for booking this disappointing accommodation.

Unfortunate to have visited this place on a month end evening after a tiring day with my wife and friend. We didn't find any place in the roof top open space and was guided to the AC Restaurant (Hype) - the biggest mistake I did. Hardly 5 minutes into the service we had got responses like KF Blue isn't cold enough (they were pushing pricey ones) fisherman's basket is not available (it apparently had seer fish, prawns & squid which were available, but they didn't have cheaper Basa to be replacs seer fish in the dish - menu mentioned seer and the waiter named Jinu was TOO honest to say we can't serve seer at that price - kick of the day). As if service wasn't bad enough, there were 3 groups who probably presumed it was a private party literally howling throughout those 2 hours we spend there which spoiled the mood for majority of the people. Despite multiple requests, nothing much done to keep them under control though. Thanks to the minimal ettiquette and poor service, we sacrificed our weekend with this place. Btw.. The lifesavers were Vishnu & Nithin who atleast politely apologized for the inconvenience and arranged for a drink I was asking for. Had it not been for them, would not have left the place without creating a scene. Which 4 star hotel has a single washroom each for men and women and serve over 20 tables? Wish I opted for the open air, atleast it wouldn't have caused me to end up with a headache on a supposedly...
