Hotel Omasila — Hotel in Ladakh Range

HOTEL OMASILA – Leh Ladakh is the heaven on earth. We enjoyed holidays with my family members of ten at Leh Ladakh on May 2018. It was an amazing experience!!!

First of all thanks to hotel owner Mr.Nawang ji & his son Mr.Tsewang Phuntsong for outstanding service & book our Leh Ladakh holidays trip with wonderful five Executive suite rooms with well furnished in hotel Omasila, the room are wooden floor and well kept with refreshment food n drinks.

We’re just back from a fabulous nine day trip to Ladakh. I’m shooting off this Hotel review for all of you out there planning your own trip to Leh. This has been one of the best family holidays we’ve spent and the home away from home we found in Hotel Omasila.

For the curious, the Omasila is named after a mountain pass and the adjacent glacier in the high Zaskar Ranges. Located on the Changspa road in the main hotel area, it is just a 15 minute drive from the airport and marks the beginning of the shopping street which continues down to the main bazaar.

The Omasila hotel buildings done in typical Ladakhi style- flat roofed, white structures with large golden wood framed windows and elaborate carvings. Inside the rooms have wood flooring with scatter rugs in Tibetan inspired dragon designs. On the hilltop above the hotel towers the white dome and golden spire of the Shanti Stupa enhancing the serene atmosphere of the place.The hotel has 45 rooms. All the rooms have gas heaters, attached baths with running hot water and cable TV, so you won’t miss your favourite soaps. The linen is clean and towels are changed everyday. There is a sun terrace where you can bask in the warmth while you sip a steaming cup of tea and feast your eyes on the panoramic view of the snow covered mountain ranges. Look down and you see a lush green lawn bordered with apple and apricot trees covered with blossom (the buds were just bursting through in early May).Even most of Bollywood Celebrities have stayed here.

The Omasila hotel has its own kitchen gardens and seedlings for the greenhouse were just being planted and you will be lucky enough to enjoy home grown, organic vegetables. I would recommend your stay bed with breakfast & dinner(map), as there are many options for breakfast/high tea time one can choose from cornflakes, butter toast, sandwiches, pakoda, French fries or Indian breakfasts like poha, upma, aloo parantha etc. If you feel hungry enough, you can eat everything on offer. The stuffed aloo parantha with pickle are really good. Dinner is served buffet style & its includes extras like soup, salad and dessert. The food is simple home cooked and tends to get a bit monotonous, but don’t despair-you can always request special dishes and the management does their best to oblige. We ordered South Indian dishes Idly–sambar-chutney & Gujarati Khichadi, curd one evening, It was awesome. Bed tea and evening tea is served in the room or outside, but it is preferable to go to the dining room for main meals if you like your food piping hot.

The Omasila hotel has taxi and tour service with experienced drivers and Mr.Phuntsong represents the spirit behind the hotel-always smiling, warm and friendly with always on hand for advice. he goes out of his way to answer any request- reasonable or unreasonable. All the staff are polite and cheerful with treated it's guests like family members and took utmost care of each and every guest and go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one.

I would definitely recommend The Hotel Omasila for individuals, especially women traveling alone, couples or families, and will certainly go back for another.

We stayed in Omasila for 4 days in June 2022 during our leh visit. We were in suite room 23 - it was an excellent stay with mesmerising view and comfort. Our suite room has a beautiful sitting area additionally with wonderful view of the garden with snowy mountain peaks in the background and another side Santi stupa. The entire day can be passed by sitting there. Cozy comfortable bedroom with large and well maintained washroom. Many review i had seen for various leh accommodations that they dont have room heaters or electric kettle usually- but that was not the case for Omasila. ||One must thing to share here is - post reaching Leh by flight- within 30/40 mins my son (8:5yr) was feeling sleepy a bit which we naturally felt due to early morning flight. But the experience stuff there by the look only realised that it can be for oxygen saturation and checked proactively , it was 73% that time .. and they had oxygen concentrator in lobby and they immediately arranged for a hospital visit for him and given him oxygen for 15 mins side by side. As we are novice we followed their lead - and soon my son was full energy , no sleepiness and we didn’t had to visit hospital at all. Still they advised us to be observant for the day and suggested us if we feel we can have a quick checkup done. We had time and we also felt even if we had all emergency medicine there is no herm to check once. in the evening we checked in leh hospital with hotel taxi and the doctor told my son is absolutely fine with 94% saturation- we can definitely go to nubra pangong with 48 hrs acclimatisation. And in the entire trip we didn’t had any issue of headaches or vomiting or anything for all of us. Because of the proper timely advice and action on the very first day we req have at omasila our entire ladakh trip was so pleasant that all those medicines we carried from Kolkata- all returned back again untouched. ||One more thing to specify its walkable from the main mall road and in we had a lovely walk daily with lots of cafes and shops on the very Changspa road its located. Additionally they have a beautiful dining and restaurant in-house which serves delicious meals . Full disclaimer: I stayed in this place in 2018 for 4 nights and found it quite hospitable but it looks like the last 4 years have taken a toll not only on this place but also the decency of the people managing this. ||||This is not an isolated incident so let me start with the whole story:||||I recommend this place to 2 friends of mine who try to contact the hotel in April 2022. First no one picks up the phone for 2 days so they drop in query in their contact us page. No response for 2 days. After trying for a 3rd day, Punni picks up and claims he didn't get anything. They ask for room rates etc. and he says he will let them know. 4 days of waiting and no response, they call up again and he said he responded to everyone who contacted him on whatsapp! They discover an unprofessional attitude and book somewhere else. I think it's an exception so ignore it.||||I send a query for a booking in mid june but get no response. I call June 2022 (10 days before this review) and Punni picks up. Says he did not get anything on their form. While I have him on the phone I send him a test message on the same contact form and he claims he didnt get anything. Basically their site is just a sham - nothing works there. So I tell him to give me room rates on whatsapp. He does that but is so pathetically slow that I start losing my patience. I ask him to reserve a room for me and confirm so that I can book my tickets (the whole chat is attached) but he responds in such an disinterested manner that I have to cancel my plans as the plane tickets have been sold out.||||Nepotism doesn't get you anywhere and Punni, with his pathetic approach to customer service, is only running this place into the ground. Only the Buddha can save Omasila! I would strongly recommend against booking this place because of their completely...
