If you're planning a solo trip to Shillong, look no further - this place is a gem. Owners Hubert and Theo, who happen to be brothers, are incredibly welcoming and have your back whether you're into offbeat adventures or more mainstream experiences. They have a comprehensive list of everything you might need.
What makes this place even more appealing is the affordability of their accommodations at just 450 rupees per night. During my stay from September 28th to the October 7th 2023, I witnessed many first-time solo travelers and I myself had concerns about their trip logistics and the safety of the belongings.
Upon interacting with these two brothers, my worries melted away. They helped me in arranging transportation and even rented a scooter to explore freely for seven days. I found the offbeat destinations so captivating that I veered away from the mainstream path. The best part was starting early, around 5 am, when the city was waking up, and returning when it was falling asleep.
Additionally, the in-house cafes offered food at more affordable rates than Swiggy or Zomato, and their lemon tea became my personal favorite. For local tours, these brothers are the go-to guys.
They treated me like a member of their own family and introduced me to fellow solo travelers. I'm definitely returning to Shillong, and this place will be my go-to safe haven. I never had to worry about my belongings; they remained untouched. Trips were sorted effortlessly once I got the names of the places from the owners and relied on Google offline maps (with Apple Maps as a backup) or sought guidance from locals.
The best part of my experience was the availability of hot showers and Western toilets. I can't wait to visit again and embrace the life of an extreme traveler. I couldn't have asked for a more fulfilling and...
Read moreDuring my recent trip to Shillong, I had the pleasure of staying at Isabella Travellers Hostel. Overall, the experience was very good. The hostel charged a reasonable rent of ₹450 per day, and the rooms were consistently clean and well-maintained. My room had four beds, and it was meticulously cleaned every day.One of the highlights of my stay was the café within the hostel, which offered great food and a pleasant atmosphere. Additionally, the host, Hubert da, was exceptional. He was incredibly helpful and friendly, making the stay even more enjoyable. Hubert also provides bike and car rentals, which are the cheapest in Shillong as far as I know. We took a shared trip to Cherrapunji for only ₹825 per person, which was a fantastic deal. However, there was one downside to the stay—the condition of the toilets. Although they were only about 5 meters away from the rooms, one of the toilets was frequently dirty. Unfortunately, some guests were inconsiderate and did not flush after using it. While this is not entirely the hostel's fault, it did affect the overall experience. I believe a simple notice board reminding guests to maintain cleanliness and indicating that violators could face consequences would help resolve this issue.Despite this minor inconvenience, I had a great time at Isabella Travellers Hostel and am planning to visit Shillong again later this year. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and hospitable place to stay in Shillong, I highly recommend...
Read moreThis place is utterly disgusting!
Cleanliness: In the name of cleanliness, they only come to fold your blanket. That's all! No cleaning of rooms as such. And btw the blankets were not warm at all. Property: The doors do not close properly and the windows were broken. There's a drain just below that window which is stinky and a breeding place for mosquitoes. Bathroom and drinking water: The bathrooms were always unclean and there was no water for flushing. Every time you go to the toilet, it's unflushed and disgusting. They don't even provide you with a toilet paper. There was hardly any water to drink as well. Staff behaviour: Su was a little helpful. His cousin Raj welcomed me with his flirty or rather inappropriate behaviour and continued to make me feel uncomfortable every single day (as long as I stayed there) and when I rejected his unwanted advances, he gave my bed to someone else without my permission. Food: just a couple of options for lunch and dinner. The breakfast was okay though (just omelette toast) WiFi: It's there. Family Friendliness: 0% Solo traveller Friendliness: if you are a female, 0%. Dog: The dog is always at the gate and keeps barking whenever someone enters. Doesn't bite though (probably). Location: It's in the middle of the city and inexpensive. However, look for...
