Cons: Rats. We informed the caretakers and owner about a rat in our 4x4 dorm (Room 207), and they responded by asking us to kill it. These rodents can easily go from one room to other as there’s space under the doors and all rooms are interconnected. Also, rat glue pad costs ₹200. Roaches. Opened the locker under the bed to keep our bags in and 5-6 roaches came out. Every time we returned to the room from a long tour day, several roaches were seen crawling on the floor and our luggage bags. Picture attached. Hit chalk costs ₹20. Extremely small bathrooms in our 4x4. Can’t move without touching the cold walls or the toilet. Had to use the one in the common area instead. No hot water in dorms. Many of us on the floor were using the same common bathroom for the hot water flow. Rooms are on 3rd floor for which you will have to climb steep stairs after walking 500m from main auto/toto point. Owner changed our dorms on the last day after a lot of argument, and the 6x6 dorm was much more pleasant and spacious than the 4x4 one, even though 4x4 costs more. Owner Raj will suggest a lot of things like boats and walks but it’s cheaper to travel by yourself. For example, rowing boat from Assi to Manikarnika cost us ₹1500 for 2hrs, whereas Raj suggested it for ₹2500.
Do not, ffs, book this ridiculous hostel. There are better homestays with completely private rooms for...
Read moreI stayed three nights at Vagabond in Varanasi. The rooms were okay, nothing special but do their purpose. The facilities offer a restaurant and a rooftop. However, I feel it is not layed out for Westeners. In general, I felt like the hostel owner tries to make money wherever he can and pretends to be your supporter while here in Varanasi even being not.
First day I did a boat tour with the hostel. They were rushing through the super crowded streets nearly loosing parts of the group and after the tour (at night!) no one was there to pick me up to the hostel without mentioning that before so I could have been prepared. I am a solo female traveler and at least would have expected some sort of consideration from their side in terms of safely getting back. Varanasi is intense and luckily I had data to make my way back alone.
Also with my departure I had rather bad experience. I know the taxi fares for taxis from the airport to the city and back. Again, the owner tried to charge insane amount of money leaving me a the end with organising a drive at 4am on my own.
I would not stay again, just because I would appreciate more honesty and sincerity. When you travel a foreign country you rely on the people around you having only the best intentions for you in mind and unfortunately here I really did...
Read moreTravelling solo is crime in this hostel.. i had booked 8 bed dorm in this hostel for 15 days.. as a solo traveller two days was fine. There where three people left out in my dorm.. as per there hostel policy if a new group of 8 people come ..who ever travelled solo has to leave that dorm and handover to them.. we where been moved into 4 bed dorm where hot water was not available( had to use common washroom), lizards, cockroaches and rats are your hostel mates. When i went back to there most kindest Manager he said “ yeh hostel mein rules yahi hai”. And said that “ apko dikhat ho ra hai tho booking cancel kijiye”.
My question is if i have already paid money for 8 bed dorm for whole 11 days, who the hell are these people to shift that to some 4 bed godown..
I cancelled my second term booking which i had made for 5 days and said varanasi “mein Sirf Vagabond hostel nahi hai”..
To Vagabond- you are located in prime location. May be that is the reason you are too confident that travellers will be there.. travellers also read reviews for your kind information. By seeing my review just imagine how many travellers would have changed there mind. Change the manager or teach him how to speak...
