Mohan's Binsar Retreat — Hotel in Uttarakhand

Perched at the top of the Kumaon mountain range in Binsar @ Kasar , the resort treated me to a mesmerizing panorama of snow-dusted peaks and lush pine forests. Each morning, I woke up to a breathtaking sunrise that painted the sky in hues of pink and orange, creating a truly enchanting view from my room’s balcony. A short walk of 10 min this is an ideal location to be based to visit the Kasar Devi Temple which is situated in the world famous Van Allen belt .

Dining at the resort was a culinary journey. The restaurant featured a delectable array of dishes, blending local flavors of the delicious Kumaoni cuisines. From hearty breakfast spread which we gulped down with their local Sweet Sour lime Galgal Malta juice to the traditional local favourite Kumaoni Dal , every meal was a delight for the taste buds. The dining experience, coupled with the cozy ambiance, made every meal a memorable event especially with local Kumaoni touch.

What truly set this mountain stay apart was the exceptional staff. Their genuine warmth and eagerness to make my stay perfect created an inviting atmosphere. From providing local insights to accommodating special requests for Kumaoni Mutton curry , the staff went above and beyond to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.

In essence, this mountain resort seamlessly combined breathtaking natural beauty, culinary excellence, and outstanding hospitality, making it an oasis of serenity and indulgence. It’s a haven for those seeking a rejuvenating escape amidst the majestic charm of the Kumaoni mountain range against the backdrop of the Mighty Himalayan Peaks

In my opinion Mohans retreat experience should be decided in two:

The stay (Padam premium)

We had requested for the most premium room with most privacy. What we got was their most premium room (not the cheapest) which is also closest to the road. Zero privacy. Sitting on the balcony which has a great view of the Kumaon hills and also the main road. Every car honk every car dipper is a part of your stay experience. Our first night experience was not good. As the rooms are mainly made of wood, we could hear all the movement from the room above. There is the washroom for the cafe right behind our bed and from 5.30am you can hear the sounds of flushes and water running in the pipes. You can also hear the water and other sounds from room above not to mention the light and sound from the road, and oh yes the hammering from the construction right next door. Forget about sleeping well on your holiday. On the first night itself we decided that we will cut short our stay here.

After giving this feedback the management did make our second night more tolerable.

The cafe: Excellent food, beautiful ambience, wonderful staff who served us food like we were dining at home. 10/10. Buffet layout was great, plenty of choice. Local cuisine combined with Chinese/continental etc. Everything was mouth watering. The service was so warm and caring. They literally fed us saying ‘ek roti aur lelo’ , ‘thori si sabzi aur leke auo’

In my opinion come to Mohans for the cafe and skip the stay. You can surely find a better stay which will also be...

We booked the Trishul Family Room, and it exceeded our expectations in every aspect, from the quality of the room to the amenities provided. However, what truly sets this retreat apart is its cafe. The cafe's green-inspired aesthetics create a soothing ambiance that complements the natural beauty surrounding the hotel. The food here is unparalleled, both in quality and taste. Despite trying out other cafes in town, we found Mohan's offerings to be the best, offering a genuine taste of the region's culinary richness.

The hospitality at Mohan's Binsar Retreat deserves special mention. Ankit, the caretaker, shared fascinating stories about the property's history, adding a unique charm to our stay. The service staff, especially Dinesh Ji, who was with us for most meals, was incredibly sweet and humble, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.
