Vivanta chennai is an old property. In a Taj, we generally expect good rooms, delicious food and fabulous service. If we critically analyse these parameters at this Taj, it's not worth the money u pay for the room.
I am an inner circle member of Taj and have stayed in Mumbai, goa, Whitefield, Rajasthan , Kochi, etc . This was my first experience in Chennai and it was bad.
While checking in, I was told that there is a free upgrade and I have been given the top floor (4th floor ) room with a pool view. But once I went to the room, I found that the AC was not effective at all. It was 3 pm and the room was warm and suffocating. I complained about this to the duty manager who promptly arranged another room at level three and the AC was fine. Later I found out that the top floor has this issue in peak summer.
Regarding food , I have never had a bad experience in any of the Taj properties . However here that has been proven wrong. In the morning buffet, the bhaji provided along with poori was truly third rate. It was extra spicy, dark in colour and full of water. ...even road side eateries provide better taste. The atta used for poori, was bad quality and it tasted horrible and was fried at high temperatures and the outer layer was almost burnt and there was a lot of dry atta over the entire poori. I did not have the bhaji and the staff offered me the masala from the masala dosa which was much better but since it was dry, i could not have it with poori which was already in a poor condition. I thought it was a one off problem, but the chapati the next morning was also similar in quality and hard . The semiya uppama was absolutely dry and tasted normal and did not taste delicious.
On arrival, a garland of shells was used to welcome us and a stone carved elephant was given while checking out. This reminded me of trying to influence the inspection team while I was in service by offering them some goodies. The real aim should have been to make the customer happy with excellent service, instead u r trying to make them happy by offering freebies.
The staff I must admit was putting in their best efforts to make us happy and the service was lightning fast. I hope the top management rectifies the issues in F&B and makes this property once again attractive to customers
In general I found the rooms to be in poor condition as the furniture and fixtures are old and appear to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Taj Vivanta Chennai for a delightful five-day work trip. From the moment I stepped foot into the hotel, I was greeted with warm hospitality and impeccable service. The hotel boasts a range of excellent amenities, including free access to the gym and swimming pool, making it an ideal choice for those seeking relaxation and wellness.
The first thing that caught my attention was the spaciousness and comfort of the rooms. The king-size beds provided a luxurious and restful sleep experience, ensuring that I woke up refreshed and ready to take on the day's adventures. The attention to detail in the room's design and furnishings was impressive, and I felt like every aspect was carefully curated to provide maximum comfort.
One standout feature of Taj Vivanta Chennai is the complimentary laundry service. They provided one pair of laundry free per day, which was incredibly convenient, especially for longer stays. This thoughtful gesture saved me the hassle of finding a laundromat or spending extra money on laundry services.
When it comes to dining, Taj Vivanta Chennai exceeded my expectations. The food served was consistently delicious, and the variety of options ensured that there was something to suit every palate. The culinary team showcased their expertise in both local and international cuisines, offering a delightful fusion of flavors. I particularly enjoyed the attentive and friendly service provided by the staff in the restaurants, making each dining experience memorable.
In terms of location, Taj Vivanta Chennai is situated approximately 30 kilometers away from the Chennai central railway station. While this may be a bit far for some travelers, the hotel's convenient location allows easy access to the city's attractions and landmarks. Getting to the hotel from the railway station is hassle-free, as cabs are readily available, providing a comfortable and quick journey.
Overall, my stay at Taj Vivanta Chennai was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of luxurious amenities, comfortable accommodations, delectable dining options, and attentive service made my experience truly memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chennai, whether for business or leisure, as it offers a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and...
Read moreLocation is excellent, service is okay, food is bad. Rooms are just not up to the mark as it is a 5 star hotel. For business it is good but for other things it's not good at all. Would not recommend staying here if you want to have an experience of a 5 star hotel.
A few good points though: We checked-in the hotel late night around 1 am so the check-in was extremely smooth as I had already called the hotel staff in advance to keep my room ready. We checked out the hotel early morning 5am the next day so again the checkout was smooth. The staff was very helpful and respectful. The overall property (lobby and elevators) is well maintained.
Major problems: At night we ordered dinner as we were very late so most of the restaurants were closed, it took the dine-in restaurant one hour to cook the dinner, the food was not good. We ordered kathi paneer roll, it was just okay, we ordered butter chicken tikka masala the chicken was stale and smelled awful even though we paid ₹1,000 for the chicken alone. Items mentioned in the night menu with timing of 12:30 am to 6 am were not available but on insisting that they are mentioned in the menu they made it but the taste was awful and the food was stale. The staff that brought the food did not have change so he went to get the change but never returned, even though I informed the reception about this they never got back to me nor returned me the money. The hair dryer in the room was not working. The system of the lights was so bad that one light focused directly on our face when you are in bed and it only turned off when you turn off all the lights in the room.
Overall not a very pleasant stay but we hardly spent time at the hotel or explored other services or areas so cannot comment on them.
If you want to go for business or work purposes it is okay as the location is...
