Unforgettable Atmosphere and Exceptional Staff

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Mad Monkey Hostel on Gili Trawangan, and I can confidently say it was one of the best hostel experiences I've ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the vibrant atmosphere, fantastic facilities, and the incredible staff who went above and beyond to make my stay unforgettable.

First and foremost, the atmosphere at Mad Monkey is unbeatable. The hostel boasts a fantastic pool right next to the volleyball court, creating the perfect setting for socializing and enjoying the island vibes. Whether it was lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand or joining in on a game of volleyball, there was never a dull moment.

What truly sets Mad Monkey apart is its outstanding staff. Ary, Billy, and Linda were absolute superstars, always going out of their way to ensure everyone felt welcome and included. They organized a wide range of activities, from foam parties to trivia nights, music quizzes, family dinners, and beer pong tournaments. Their dedication to creating a fun and inclusive environment truly made my stay memorable.

Moreover, the staff's efforts to integrate new guests into the Mad Monkey community were commendable. Whether you were traveling solo or with friends, you were guaranteed to make new connections and lifelong friendships during your time at the hostel.

One of the highlights of my stay was the breathtaking sunset views from the beach just across the street from the volleyball court. Watching the sun dip below the horizon while lounging on the soft sand was a truly magical experience that I will never forget.

In conclusion, Mad Monkey Hostel exceeded all my expectations and provided an unforgettable experience on Gili Trawangan. I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone looking for a lively and social atmosphere, fantastic facilities, and exceptional staff. I’m probably in the minority with my opinion of this place but I feel like a few things could be changed to make it better.

For starters the staff were seemingly very friendly and reasonable when we checked in, took us up to room after offering advice on snorkelling etc - all v helpful.

It’s a shame the niceties ended when the rep crossed the threshold of our door who repeatedly made misogynistic comments about girls staying at the hostel.

For starters, water is 10k for a refill of warm water from the big dispenser? I’d hope a company conscious of its plastic usage would incentivise refilling bottles, as a bottle of cold water is 5k from the mini mart 1 minute away? Seems daft in my opinion.

Secondly, I ran into some problems at the family dinner which I paid for and then wasn’t able to attend as I was so ill in bed. My friends explained this to the team who categorically refused to give a refund - it was 120k which isn’t cheap. This left a bad taste in my mouth… and the food left an equally bad taste in my friend’s mouths (inadequate portion and generally bad considering it was £6!)

The next day I waited 1 hour for a fruit plate…

Overall I think this site could do with some general lessons in how to treat customers in order to bring it up to the standard of other mad monkeys I’ve stayed at - namely your...

Had the best week! Stayed in the private teepee. Loved the spacious wood chests to put my things in and little mat to catch the sand from my feet before getting into bed. Universal electric plug-ins by the super comfy bed. Large fan keeps the room comfortable (a bit warm during the day, but fine through the night). Kitchen was completely able to work around my allergies and the whole food staff had been alerted to put my name on the order so the kitchen staff could take appropriate precautions! Felt safe the whole time I was there. Bathrooms were clean and always stocked. Loved that mad monkey is located on the west side of the island! Gorgeous sunsets, easy mornings, and no diesel fumes from all the boats on the east side!! Its a quick 10 min bike ride or an easy 30 min walk to get the east side where the dance clubs are after the hostel quiets down for the night. I like that they stop around 10ish so those who want, can go to sleep. And the AWESOME reps! Sofie!!!! She is amazing! Sam was awesome and Octave is too! They really keep the place having a great time and keep positive energy flowing! Elliott and Scott really pick great Reps, know what a hostelier wants, and worked to make possibly the perfect hostel. Great place guys!! I will go back and definitely recommend...
