LOCATION Wished I had known about the Paddleboard-Surfing/Surfing business across the street to alternate days with surfing for balance. Rentals are not inexpensive but right on the beach.
BEACH The sand is large and coarse. The beach is not out of this world. I appreciate that this Muslim culture allows for a public beaches that aren’t blocked by capitalism, like Koh Samui, Thailand.
NOT SOCIAL If traveling solo and hoping to meet people or join activities, Rinjani might not be your scene—there’s no real social vibe or group events. If you’re craving connection, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
WHO FOR This place is perfect for groups who love to chill in the sun on cushy pool loungers or stroll across the street to the public beach for far-out surf views.
Heads-Up & Helpful Warnings Moldy Waterfall Surprise: The waterfall area in the pool looks cool but comes with a price—visible mold can turn your light-colored swimwear black in just one day. Vinegar won’t save it. Sun-drying helps, but honestly, best to avoid that shaded waterfall spot if you care about your swimwear. Slow-Dry Zone: Drying racks are in the shade, so your clothes will take their sweet time—expect a two-day wait for anything to fully dry. Bed Patrol: Ask staff to vacuum and spray around/under the bed. Having your own cleaning wipes isn’t a bad idea. Sink & Shower Mold: A little mold shows up in the sink and shower. Staff usually scoop the sink daily, but it’s not spotless. Jet-Stream Bidets: The bidet hose is powerful. Like, rocket-launcher powerful. Turn it down at the source before getting blasted.
NONSURF ACTIVITIES ON LOMBOK As for the real Rinjani hike, it’s done in the middle of the night. People I met said they would not have done it had they seen how dangerous it is on the way up during daylight. It is a difficult hike and dangerous. A person slid-in shortly after I was in Indonesia. She waited for help and the drones never brought food or water. By the time rescuers on ropes came (72hours?), she was dead. What’s more dangerous: riding scooters or hiking volcanos?
Lots also go to Komodo Island. My friend (who is in her second quarter century of life) said the several day trip was a blast.
What Makes this Puri Rinjani Accommodation Special • Tropical gardens that feel like Magnum P.I. filmed right here. • Gorgeous pool open 24/7, with Indonesian Sukabumi stone that turns a dreamy blue-green when wet. • Fresh towels by the pool—yes, please. • Loungers galore, with or without cushions, your call. • Just steps from a public beach where surfers catch waves in the distant reef area. • Onsite food plus plenty of nearby restaurants and convenience stores. A nextdoor restaurant has a pool for customers on the front lawn with no fence! Love the culture of that! • Hostel rooms feature quality curtains, and some beds even have their own little windows. • Showers have sleek designs and beautiful skylights that help reduce mold. • Comforters are washed between guests (yay!)—though the pink pillow may be...
Read moreAn oasis. We arrived late afternoon intending to stay one night. By the end of the evening, having had dinner out with a friend, we booked in for the next 4 nights which made this the last place we stayed on a month long trip traveling through Indonesia.
Staff, kind, funny, thoughtful - especially the front desk. Breakfast was the only....place for improvement. Depending upon who was working that morning and overall Taku (the restaurant) was satisfying. As indicated in other reviews, great smoothies, good coffee, even croissants if that is your thing.
Rooms are spacious and beds are super comfortable. We enjoyed time each day/evening chilling out on our terrace which was large enough for 2 super comfortable chairs, a table, and a chaise lounge.
At first the beachfront area can seem a bit out of the way, in fact it added to Puri Rinjani being an oasis. 10 minute walk/3 minute scooter to the 'center' and happy to leave it for a peaceful night sleep. Locals hang out at the beach which we found a nice bonus, especially as the 'villa' can make this place seem super touristy - when in fact it was one of the best facilities we stayed in on our month long journey.
The privacy of the little bungalows, together with the vast garden, and refreshing pool made this a place we would both recommend...
Read moreThe worst hotel in my 17 days in Indonesia. They offer a "Superior Room" and it's a basic one (they don't give you towels to dry your hands, no soap to wash your hands), the rooms are dirty when you arrive and when you ask them to clean it there's no difference after they "clean it", no internet in the room, terrible internet in the common areas (just good in the restaurant), the food is terrible for the breakfast, they offer you a very small amount of food and no variety (terrible taste), the superior room is very small and it doesn't have a fridge (mini bar), broken furniture, some of the personnel are nice but others laugh from you in your face if you decide to ask for a service out of the hotel (because of the price), if they see animals in the garden they kill them (we saw how do they killed a gecko and they disappeared a big snail), it's a noisy place (our room was next to the principal road and you can listen the scooters and cars), it's difficult to communicate with the personnel of the hotel because their English is very very basic. We were not the only ones uncomfortable and unhappy with the hotel during our 4 days (3 nights). I'll never recommend this hotel and of course, I'll...
