Alam has so much potential to be a beautiful hotel, however it is in dire need of some love and attention.
The staff are lovely and very welcoming. We found the food excellent however serving sizes were small for the price. The view and location was beautiful, hearing the waterfall from our room was very lovely. We enjoyed relaxing by the upper level pool and the breakfast menu.
Unfortunately the above was soured by our experience in the rooms - we had to move to three different rooms due to issues. Overall, all rooms need maintenance, furniture updated or fixed, and a good deep clean. The lack of toiletries provided was disappointing, most provided in broken bottles with mouldy lids and scrawled handwriting. The linen needs updating, as the towels and sheets are old and discoloured / stained.
In our first room, the toilet began leaking badly from the base on our third day there. The room smelt strongly of mothballs, and there was a questionable white stain on the bed sash. The balcony floor boards had a strange drop to them when walked on. The toilet was unable to be fixed and we were "upgraded" and moved to a different room.
Sadly, this new room was very poor. The floor sloped downwards steeply towards the pool and on one side of the villa, assuming due to poor workmanship or significant ground movement. The tiles were cracked and felt unstable. We were concerned about the structural safety of the room. The shower was full of mould and the room had a mouldy smell. There was strangely no where to hang towels. The shower fluctuated strongly in pressure constantly, from very strong to a small trickle. The bed sheets were dirty and the towels provided were grey from age and use. The couch was very stained, and the mosquito netting around the bed was full of mould. We were subsequently moved to another room after voicing our concerns.
Our third and final room was thankfully "ok". There was still a significant mould issue in the shower, and water damage in the bathroom. The sheets were dirty and stained, however clean fresh towels were provided. There was a huge mould problem down by the pool where the air con leaks to.
Overall, our stay was disappointing considering the price and given Alam is a four star hotel. The constant issues with the rooms requiring us to move to three different rooms proved very disruptive.
We treated ourselves to a facial which was quite unpleasant given the roughness of the therapists. We had a much more positive, professional and relaxing experience when we went to dedary.
Note, the hotel is located out of Ubud town, and the road is not walkable (very steep and dangerous). Be prepared for lots of stairs at the hotel depending...

Read moreUnsafe hotel, dangerous balcony broke dropping me down the cliff breaking my spine !
We checked into Alam Ubud villas past 6.30 pm on the 18th of December 2022 so it was difficult to understand the villas exact condition. Little did I know the villas needed urgent maintenance. We had a shower & had dinner brought to the villa. After this we walked downstairs near the pool and as I leaned on the balcony to listen to the jungle the balustrade collapsed dropping me more than 30 meters down the cliff ! It took rescuers more than 3 hours to rescue me & I suffered Multiple fractures & 6 broken spines. I spent 10 days in ICU in bali. Underwent 3 major surgeries all because Alam Ubud was irresponsible & negligent in their maintenance. The hotel lied to the papers about us swimming in the pool at night & later they apologized. I had to request multiple times for the owners to finally come to the hospital. All travellers please be advised! The hotel claimed they have NO International insurance & offered a compensation less than 10% of my medical bills which amounted to 85000 USD in bali. Not only is it outrageous the hotel claimed to have no international insurance but it highlights the run-down and unsafe conditions of Hotel Alam Ubud. The fact that they are not adequately insured is a clear indication of their lack of concern for their guests' safety and well-being. Alam Ubud your Negligence & lack of maintenance has caused me life long phsyical injuries & you showed no remorse for your actions . Your lack of empathy & compassion was disgraceful when I was injured as you showed no compassion towards my suffering. I truly hope justice will take its course. Three months has passed & I am still undergoing treatment & rehabilitation in hospital due to choosing to holiday in...
