Update: hotel have replied, but my booking clearly states where this is for.
A very affordable and unique hotel about 25 minutes ride from ubud, when arriving the entrance road can be very intimidating and for lack of a better word, scary as the gradient on the hill is around 70%, it winds round until you reach the lobby, it's not for the faint hearted and if you have accessibility issues then avoid this hotel.
The surroundings are amazing, you can hear the river at the bottom of the hotel, as well as all of the animals and insects making noise throughout the night, it's very relaxing once you are comfortable.
I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, 2 were spent in the traditional hut and 1 night in the lumbung hut.
The traditional hut was very Spartan, just a mattress and side table with a phone, they bought me 2 cups of orange juice as well which was a nice touch, the mattress was directly on the floor with a mosquito net, and there are glass windows all around for a 360 view of the jungle, of course there are curtains so you can have some privacy too. The toilet was basic, and bugs galore. What was concerning was there were no covers on the quilt, I wonder if they just wash the whole quilt, but that did not seem hygienic. They also did not make up the room between days.
The lumbung hut was a huge upgrade, and I'd definitely recommend it if it wasn't for the fact that the mattress was so hard it was giving me back pain throughout the night, I woke up around every 20 minutes as I was uncomfortable. The hut itself is hugely nicer and there is a table outside and a small seating area beneath the hut. The toilet is downstairs and is also a huge upgrade from the regular hut, however I also had no hot water, and asked the reception if it could be fixed, however it was not.
The swimming pool is pretty nice, it's deep enough and big enough that you can have a proper swim, it can also be quite cold. The pool is now green, rather than blue as shown in the older pictures something that has probably changed due to COVID.
Breakfast was good, there are options, pancakes, waffles or rice .. I tried both the pancakes and waffles which come with honey and butter, fruit, papaya juice and a coffee or tea. One day they had changed these options so it was bread with fried, scrambled or omelette egg.
The staff are friendly and helpful, they did fix the hot water and also the electricity went out after a huge downpour of rain which they fixed..
Honestly, some reviews are harsh about the bugs and animals, it is called Jungle Huts and you're in the middle of nature, the bugs won't harm you and some are quite pretty.
All in, COVID has clearly taken its toll and the hotel is showing a bit of disrepair and lack of love in places, I think with a bit more maintenance and care this place could really be...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at the Bali Bamboo Hostel and Huts in Ubud, Bali last year, and I can't stop raving about it! Managed by the most delightful couple Siri and bambu , this property truly exceeded my expectations in every way.
The journey to this remarkable place began when a friend of mine in Kuta recommended it, and I'm forever grateful for that recommendation. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a sense of belonging. The fact that the property is hosted by such a lovely couple added a personal touch to my entire stay.
What sets this place apart are the incredible amenities they provide. Not only can you explore the surroundings on their complimentary bicycles, but they also offer the convenience of renting scooters and cars for those seeking a more independent adventure. The nightly servings of refreshing jungle juice added a fun and communal aspect to the evenings, while the complimentary breakfast in the mornings, complete with an array of delicious vegetarian options, was an absolute treat.
The small touches didn't go unnoticed either. Upon arrival, I was offered a welcome drink that immediately made me feel at home. And let's talk about the food – their fried rice and vegetarian dishes were a true delight for the taste buds.
The accommodations themselves are well worth every penny. Quiet, charming, and reasonably priced, the rooms provided the perfect sanctuary after a day of exploring.
If you're planning a visit to Ubud, I wholeheartedly recommend staying at the Bali Bamboo jungle Huts and hostel. It's more than just a place to rest; it's an experience that captures the essence of Ubud's beauty, culture, and the genuine warmth of its people. I can't wait to return to this paradise and reunite with that unforgettable...
Read moreCaught in the rain nearby here, we found it on Google Maps and I wish we had chosen a different hotel given the circumstances. The steep driveway is insanely dangerous. There was no car available to drive us down the driveway at 5pm nor to drive us up at 7am. We did not dare to drive down it on Harleys. Hardly able to WALK down the slippery entrance to the property, we literally had to hold hands and take baby steps in the rain, which took a long time. We were enticed online basically by the allure of a hot shower for 300k. That price is for only a tiny room up a ladder with a tiny separate bathroom. No hot water there I'm pretty sure. What they call a "villa" is an ensuite room with an outdoor pool and that costs a lot more. It took ten minutes to get running warm water. Needless to say, the water pressure was weak. To fill the tub up enough for a bath, it would've taken an hour or more. There was no laundry, no way to dry our soaking clothes. Everything was still damp in the morning after hanging in front of a standing fan all night long. The TV was broken. The food is abysmal. It was the day after Kuningan holiday, so they said that's why services were limited. Perhaps on a normal sunny day, this place might be able to earn four stars. No, I won't be returning to test...
