We stayed at Puri Gangga Resort for 4 nights and the experience was absolutely stunning. We stayed in the Godavari suite which is one of the suites with a private pool. Definitely get a private pool suite if you can. The view from these suites are beautiful. We stayed in the midst of nature in a very private and spacious room. The environment was so extremely peaceful. The pool was a little cold but if you like pools, you know it just takes a few minutes to get used to and then it’s perfect. The restroom is open concept with skylights over the bathtub and the rainfall shower – everything about this room was breathtaking, especially considering the price in CAD.
During our stay we got airport transfer, a floating breakfast, a candle light dinner in the beautiful porch of our villa, a full day tour, and a drop off to our next hotel directly from the end of the tour. Throughout all of this, the staff were extremely friendly, kind, and attentive. Every time you walk by the lobby the staff will ask where you’re going and if you need anything to ensure you’re comfortable during your outing. One of the main drivers there, Jo, was extremely helpful and just the best tour guide you could ever have. We saw him in the resort throughout our trip and he always had answers to all our questions about where we wanted to go, and the best and safest way to get there. It felt like Jo was our personal guide during our stay here. Our interactions with the staff and especially Jo really took our experience here to the next level.
The candle light dinner was very romantic. Full dinner service to your room as if you’re at a top-notch restaurant. Options include tradition Balinese food as well as western food (steak, fries, etc.). In my personal opinion, Balinese food is very tasty and you should stick to the Balinese food at this resort.
Our full day tour was awesome. Jo was able to figure out an itinerary based on a few things we wanted to see, time out a lunch break, and get us back in time for dinner at the hotel’s beautiful restaurant.
The village we stayed in is known for wood carving. We walked out from the resort and into the village, checked out some of the local stores, grabbed some souvenirs, coffee, and some fruit shakes. Everything felt very safe. The locals here are very friendly.
On our last day, Jo dropped us off for another tour after checking out. During this tour he made sure we were okay and ensured we got connected with a ride to our next hotel, and confirmed we made it there safely. The customer service at this resort is just...
Read moreThe setting is beautiful and the idea is beautiful but they miss the mark on execution.
We had the pool villa 902 which was beautiful on first viewing but then we noticed the damp with mould and paint bubbling. The room smelt of mould, including the cushions and the curtains. The big deep bath was useless considering it took 20 minutes to fill to a depth of 20cms and then the hot water ran out taking another 20 minutes to heat up again. The WiFi was unreliable and the AC rattled and was loud even on low speed. I had to turn it off to go to sleep then wake up when hot and turn it back on in order to cope. The outdoor pool with the room was nice, but was too cold - this spot was not as hot as other parts of Bali meaning we probably spent about 3 minutes in it.
Staff were courteous and lovely but seemed to lack experience and decent training. We were always being sold to (what are you doing tomorrow? and before we were even taken to our room: would you like to buy a romantic dinner?). The staff also seemed junior and nervous and at times were too formal - giving the place an unrelaxed vibe. In one instance laundry was not collected because we miscounted how many items there were (who cares) so two staff came and collected it and watched us recount!
The hotel is also far from Ubud with nothing of interest close by, at times we felt trapped because we didn't feel at ease. The hotel runs a shuttle too infrequently and the last one back is at a pathetic 845pm. Cocktails were bad and bar service was slow adding to the lack of relaxation. Despite all of this the food was exceptional and when there were issues they were keen to resolve. The manager also sensed that we weren't to happy and once we got through some sort of coffee voucher offer (no thanks) he gave me his email to give written feedback. I also sensed from staff an impending fear of bad feedback, which should not be the main concern, it should just be the guests' comfort.
We liked how the room was big and open, having the big doors open in the afternoon with no AC was quite special and it was truly tranquil.
They need to improve on the room's inability to cope with the damp and train staff to relax to make this place work.
Disappointing and not worth the cost. Avoid the villas, the suites are probably better value. The photos...
