Novotel Semarang — Hotel in Semarang

After long hours trip using train and arrived at Semarang in the early morning, we just picked up any choice of accommodation close to the main train Station, Semarang Tawang. We did not book the hotel previously and just did go show. According to taxi driver, the hotel is the most favorite hotel due to its location in the city center.

The taxi driver did not lie when he said it. The hotel very closed to the main train station on the way to city center. Just less than 10 minutes driving and here we arrived. Also, the hotel just in the opposite of the most modern mall in Semarang at the being time, Paragon Mall, so the guest may just walk across Pemuda street to reach the mall.

Check in process was very smooth and we did not wait long time to see our room. The status which embedded to this hotel is true: 4 stars hotel with comfortable ambience, even though not the most modern interior found in the hotel. The room was spacious and completed with guest amenities we need to make our stay more enjoyable.

The dominant color that we encountered in the room (and outside the room as well) were charcoal, brown, black, and marble color. They made the hotel look luxury and splendid. AC works perfectly as Semarang always very hot and humid, especially in summer time.

We took our breakfast with quite lot choice of food and dessert. The food were average, but that because we were not sure whether it was because really "just average taste" or we were not in good health condition when we partake it.

We did not check the quality of internet access as we came for holiday, but I believe they have good quality internet access as we heard no guest complaint during our breakfast and our stay. As it is in the city center, the hotel also provide business center and executive lounge, however we did not check further the service in the facilities.

Beside very close to Paragon Mall, it only take around 5 minutes to go to Tugu Muda and Lawang Sewu, the historical tourist object, as well as to Pandanaran street if you want to hunt the souvenirs. Practically no traffic jam when we there. Also, Simpang Lima, the square in the downtown which more live in the night can be reached less than 10 minutes from this hotel.

When we ended our stay in the hotel, check out process also smooth. Airport is quite far from this hotel and sometimes you will experience traffic jam during after working hours. But it takes only less than 30 minutes to arrive at the airport which was an indication that this hotel has...

Stayed here 2 nights for family vacation in Semarang city. This is probably one of the most strategically located hotel in Semarang city area, if you want to explore Simpang Lima area or on business trip. Beware that this hotel is located on one-way road, always check your map if you ride your own vehicle.

Check in process was quick and efficient, and front office guy greeted us with warm smile. Well done for receptionist job! Room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. One thing I have to mention is room lighting was very dim for our likening. I think they should add more light for room.

Bathroom was very clean and towels were folded and placed neatly. My complaint is bathroom amenities (shampoo and bath cream) were too small for 2 person. They provided a bathrobe... But only a single bathrobe, made from thin batik fabric. I think they should provided two towel bathrobes instead of a single bathrobe.

Breakfast were pleasing, they provided smoking and non smoking area, but since most of their guest were families with kids, only few of them occupying smoking area. For a few moments there were too many people in non smoking area, some guest had difficulty finding empty table and chair. Breakfast taste was good, but pasta on my second day breakfast was too spicy, and sushi roll was spicy (it was strange). My biggest complaint about breakfast was from round table next to usThe round table next to us were occupied by a big family and they bring their own food in a big white box. It was written as 'Ba Kut' on box. They shared the food from the box to family members using resto utensils. I think resto should banned guest from bring their own food from outside. And since most of us are moslems who are sensitive about halal-haram law (including using food utensils previously used on haram food), I think plates and spoons previously used by them should be separated from the others.

I can give 8/10 for this hotel. My complaints are :

Parking area was too narrow and dark. It was too dangerous for inexperienced driver or guest bring a large car Room lighting was too dim for my liking. They should provided 2 towel bathrobes instead of a single batic bathrobe. Resto food taste and service need some upgrades.

Despite of my small complaints, this hotel is one of the best option if you were in Semarang city. Keep up the good work, I hope I can visit this hotel...
