Completely disappointed and embarrassed. The food here is decent but the service didn’t live up to it. My friends from up the country came down to kinsale to meet us over the summer, we booked here in advance of arrival for a table of four. Once we arrived we were greeted by what I assumed a female manager who was rude when leading us to our table. We had a young waitress serve us who was lovely. A middle aged man then took our orders and made a snarky comment to my friend. We had to ask for water 3 times before receiving it. They forgot my friend’s side of chips and we had to ask for it. I ordered the aromatic duck which comes with pancakes. When receiving it they gave me chips in replacement of the pancakes without letting me know. They clearly heard me complain a myriad of times about it to my table as they the male manager I assume, brought me the pancakes 15 minutes after getting my duck, which was already ate my that point and lamped them down on the table. The table next to us were middle aged women and received good manners and warm smiles. Utterly disgraceful how we felt treated by the older staff managers/owners as we felt it was because we were in our twenties. We asked for the bill and we were left with it for some time to the point my friend had to go up to the counter and pay. The poor communication with the food and drinks would have been ok if it wasn’t for the service that made us feel unwelcome and embarrassed that I had brought my friends here. The toilet seat in the female bathroom was also broken and caused my friends to slip. I told a few people about my experience and they have had the same issue here, although my parents who have been customers for years were shocked. I would never be the type to complain and leave a review on a place but our whole experience here was embarrassing for...
Read moreThe Spilt personality of the White Lady Customer Service of Tony and his staff: 5 stars Restaurant: 5 stars Hotel Accomadations: 2 stars Tony is an amazing host with a big personality and treats his guests like he's known them for years & you are the best of friends! His staff are gracious & helpful. Shout out to Roman & Mary The restaurant has a great menu and a nice decor and Atmosphere. The seafood chowder was out of this world! Mary made our breakfast cooked to order. It was delicious and she was a delight to talk to. I am sorry to say, that once you go upstairs to your room, it is a different story. The lighting is dark (even after a changed light bulb), the beds old and uncomfortable and basic amenities are not provided. There is no shelf in the shower to place your soap & shampoo. There is no tissue box in the rooms, especially important in today's climate. When we advised Tony the lighted vanity mirror was out, he said new vanity lights were ordered, but they were 8 weeks delayed. Yet I read reviews from 2 years ago of clients complaining of the same thing. Get different lights then! Many reviews complained of no coffee in the rooms, which is true, but I really see no room for them. Have self-service coffee in the lobby for early risers until breakfast! Address these simple small changes and you will be on the way the the boutique hotel you...
Read moreReally disappointing food though the staff and service were great. Two stars, though, as I choose my restaurants based on food, first.
The menu raised red flags as it appeared too many cuisine types were on offer for them to be able to produce with quality across the board. Ignoring this and hoping for the best, we chose mainly spicy dishes: chilli beef, Thai red curry. Huge helpings arrived on massive plates. This is likely to justify the enormous prices. Neither had any spice or much taste. Both left us able to identify that they use too much salt and also the type of salt: table salt - the one which pours from a large plastic bottle. Two days we were downing water in an attempt to remove the taste of salt. Silver lining: none of us suffered any cramps during that time.
The draught KPA managed to taste old. Disappointing as the brewery is within a mile.
Refreshingly, the staff did not ask "how is your meal?" while or after we were eating. Perhaps they knew the answer already? Perhaps they were looking for the missing kilo of salt.
Disappointing experience. The other reviews sound as though the restaurant may have just had an off night. Unfortunately for them, there are so many other fine Kinsale eateries that we won't be back to...
